FSD transfer is back (yet again) til the end of year.
FSD transfer is valid if you take delivery by end of the year.

So that’s basically 6 full months in a row. They should just make it permanent at this point.
I fully agree. It’s silly is used as a demand lever. It should be included as a 1 time transfer or until they reach actual FSD
It’s an odd demand lever because at some point (10 years?) everyone is going to figure out FSD and try to undercut each other until it’s basically included in the car cost. Cheap when it wasn’t quite ready, expensive just before and just after it starts working, then discounted again. A lot of tech does that.
Can we not post anything from this tool?
Just link it to my damn Tesla account already
Please give 50% discount on FSD as Thanksgiving sale
It should just be a 1 time transfer with every car purchase. I think that makes sense.
Not for Cybertrucks?
Will it work towards a CT?
I couldn’t agree more!
My bad 😂
Per that tweet, no. But who knows with Tesla. I assume the demand for CT is enough they won’t do anything
Why does it matter where the information came from? If it's news or relevant, who cares?
Have they done this before?
If I could get the whole package - lifetime FSD, Supercharging, and Premium connectivity all transferred (even as a 1-time thing), I'd upgrade our MX this year. They came close last year with FSD + Supercharging, but we decided to wait it out another year...hopefully they'll sweeten the pot a bit.
Nope. But in theory they did as the price was up to 15k at one point (would only ever appreciate, per Elon) then they cut the price to 8k
Why should it be "just that"? Have a spine. You purchased the damn software.
No. You purchased a license to use that software. Like most things.
If I knew I could always transfer FSD to any other Tesla I buy I would be much more likely to buy FSD. But no way am I paying 8k for the way the product is now.
I wish they’d allow unlimited supercharging transfer and I’d buy a new M3P in a second.
Why should it be "just that"? Have a spine. You purchased the damn *license*.
How does it work if I have self driving on a used car that came with it bc the previous owner purchased is new with fsd and it stayed with the car
They may soon. They need sales
Everyone is most certainly NOT going to figure out FSD.
Thanks for the quick answer!
Once it’s solved, it’s just a matter of money. You know what it took and you hire people that worked on it.

Wonder if I can transfer my FSD to a new Model Y, and qualify for the 0% interest?
Do you wanted to buy another Tesla but didn’t because they didn’t include premium connectivity? It’s only $10 a month.
I wonder the same thing with my Model S. I would assume that will come, at some point. End of quarter + end of year will probably have some wild deals.
Eventually they will include the cybertruck. They are still working through preorders. Once those run out, I suspect they will offer it.
That's a foolish statement. In the long-term, everyone will figure out the technology. Look at how many different companies figured out how to make cars. Or computers. Yes, in the near-ish term some companies might hold a temporary advantage. Heck, right now there are 5 companies that are candidates to make FSD reality, not counting all the Chinese companies.
Nah, there was a whole bunch of other stuff, and clearly we didn’t need to upgrade since we happily lasted another year with the existing car. But I think it would be nice to reward early adopters/supporters more, and they would have been some nice icing on the cake.
How are you in a Tesla sub, and not understand anything about the technology within the company. Are you lost?
Name one technology that doesn’t immediately trickle down as a new standard across all market participants once it’s ‘solved’.
Damm. I lamented being in the hospital during the last time this year they had the transfer. This is great news for me and others. I'm gonna be thinking about this for the next month or two.
Because I own a Model 3, I've owned one for 5 years. I bought FSD for $6,000 of my own money 5 years ago. It still does not drive itself. I like my Tesla, but dreams are separate from reality. The harsh reality is FSD is a regulatory problem. There is NO regulatory framework yet for the technology. Look at Matrix LED headlights. Tesla went forward putting them into cars. The NHTSA published regulatory requirements and 2 years worth of cars with Matrix LED headlights are useless.
..what? What he said is completely sensible. Also as a Tesla owner with FSD, the tech is currently a joke and has gotten worse since they started depending entirely on cameras. Mercedes is well ahead since they're actually using the correct sensors.
In a couple of decades when you've seen it happen a few times you will know it is true.
LOL you think owning the car makes you an expert in AI or something? Never mind, your response showed me exactly what your level of knowledge is.
The scam continues
Or Xpeng. They're just launching now in Australia and their autonomy is better than what Tesla offers here. They are a fast follower of the Tesla FSD model. Obviously Tesla will bring v12 here and be back in front, but for many, second best will be good enough.
You underestimate the power of network effects. Even if they catch up on tech, if Tesla gets a multi-year headstart in large-scale robotaxi operations, people won't want to switch to something else. That's why Uber is so successful.
I'm waiting for both myself. My 6 year old 3p could use a break
Now we’re just missing FUS transfer …
I’ll be right behind you!!

If I sell my Tesla with FSD, not a single person will pay me $8000 for the FSD package. I understand why used hardware loses its value. But how does an FSD LICENSE lose its value, exactly? It’s actually an appreciating asset when looked at independently as a LICENSE, because it becomes better over time unlike a car that gets worse over time with wear and tear. And it can be installed on any future car! I understand that reselling software (a video game) will see its value go down but that’s because well firstly, the DEMAND goes down and secondly, new video games come out. Or the next iteration of the game comes out. Say fifa. You don’t get to buy a permanent LICENSE to a video game (meaning all next versions are yours for download). That’s like saying I buy a FIFA license so all next fifa releases are mine. But this is a bit different. This is a LICENSE for a product that continues to improve. And yet, if you’re a customer buying a used Tesla, you’ll never want to pay the full price for a license “transfer”. And this is why, once you buy FSD or any software unlocks like AB, it needs to be tied to my Tesla account. Permanently. Tesla won’t do it most likely but I am hoping that consumers pressure them into it by slowing the sales.
It should be permanent but at \~20% of the cost of the current price. In other words, $1,600 right now. This way, it covers further development and hardware but gives 80% of the value back to the customer. As other competitors come, it will keep people locked into the ecosystem. If you leave Tesla, you have to buy back in at full price.
If you own a car with FSD you can transfer it.
You are very wrong. This will be personal transport. Everyone will have the tech and very quickly
Agreed!
Why do they insist on playing these dumb games with their customers?
Back in April 2019 they heavily discounted fsd to current owners by more than 50%. Normal price was $6k and they offered down to like $2k. That’s when I bought it. So I’ve been enjoying fsd and don’t feel guilty paying crazy high price for it. I think it was the time when they removed EAP and transferred a lot of its feature to FSD only features like summon and lane change. So to not piss off current customers, they gave us a change to buy fsd at a heavy discount.
Cool, it came with my ‘23 Model Y—would love to get it for the 3, but not at $8k 😅
[deleted]
Absolutely this! The way I operate my car, I’ll have well over 300k miles on it in 10 years. I will buy another, (not that that’s the limit - I’m going for a long range record) but an additional one to replace my wife’s Nissan rubber band Rogue. She can’t not freak out with FSD on, but I love it for traffic on the way to work with my 60 mile each way commute. I’d spend $8k to have it follow my account, for sure!
Seriously. It incentivizes people to get a Tesla as their next vehicle if its just tied to their account. I happened to buy my model S like a month before the fsd transfer was a thing but would've loved to have it transferred from my model 3. All it did was piss me off
I have a 175k mi MS P90DL, I can’t wait for a new M3P. It’s so good.
The iPhone and App Store disproves your point. Yes, the technology itself immediately trickled down to Android phones. However, this did not affect the profitability of Apple's iPhone division. Apple still makes more money from smartphones and the App Store than all Android phone makers combined, despite having smaller market share. Part of it is (still, after all these decades) first-mover advantage, and part of it is vendor lock in, most notably with iMessage and the blue bubbles.
Doubt it will be quick. Literally no other consumer vehicle today can even stop for a stop sign, and Tesla FSD was doing that 4 years ago.
Doubtful. Last quarter when it was free M3P paint choice with purchase of FSD, you could not get the free paint with the transfer. I assume the same applies here because ultimately, there's no FSD on the MVPA.
> The harsh reality is FSD is a regulatory problem. There is NO regulatory framework yet for the technology. I rode on a completely robotic taxi yesterday. That I hailed through a phone app. You know, the stuff that was promised 4 years ago. It very much exists, Tesla just failed to do it.
Can you transfer it to a new purchase and keep your previous Tesla? I would love to add it to a new CT and dumb down my model three.
Disagree. No other company has the training data to support the AI. Every time they mention XX billion miles driven on FSD or autopilot, no other company has 8 years of driving data across their fleet of cars. Across multiple cities and regions. Not even close.
For me, I wouldn't even consider it till Juniper comes out.
Has this been officially announced?
Can't wait to get shamed for using the wrong ride service...
Most likely it will be something along the lines of: if a convoy of Tesla cars is traveling in sequence in the same lane they can coordinate with each other to lock in at a smaller following distance, whereas a non-Tesla in the queue will cause all the cars to revert to normal following distance, so that there will be some peer pressure to get with the Tesla program.
For cybertruck too?
Theres no network effect in FSD at all. They have a technology advantage and training data, sure, but at some point people will catch up on both.
Apparently not yet
Why aren't there a million successful Uber competitors then? The tech is relatively easy for others to copy at this point. But people stick with Uber.
I wish the MP3 had 400 miles of range. I’d definitely pull the trigger with an FSD transfer and 0% financing.
Uber has a network effect because it has a ton of drivers on the platform because there are a lot of people that use it. FSD doesnt have anything like that.
If everyone is using Tesla robotaxis every day for years and they have all the sticky features tied to them (apps, settings, etc.), it will be very hard to get people to switch to something else unless that something else is way better.
give me new model y
OK fine but thats not a network effect. A network effect is when the value of a product increases as more people use it.
I'd imagine a lot of the stickiness will be tied to people's friends and family using it, so it is a network effect. Certain features and functionality will be social.
I wouldn’t say failed. My tesla can take me on trips through my city without interventions. But Waymo couldn’t drive one inch in my city because it has not been HD mapped. And forget about the country roads. So the tesla has some advantage on generalized driving. It’s not at all clear to me who will get there first. But I wouldn’t write tesla off.
That's right! I forgot not everyone is like me and wouldn't buy suv/cross overs.
Yo, just make sure you snag that FSD deal before the year's up, or you might lose it!
I think they (tesla) prefer to have subscriptions as well
Can you buy a new car, transfer FSD and keep the old car?
I bought in Sep and have 1.99 rate Can I move to 0% rate now
Cause they pay Tesla for the opportunity
I would pay that for what it is right now but EU laws make it not available. But since I know I'll get it eventually, it would make me consider purchase ahead of time if it was tied to an account rather than to a vehicle.
Can someone transfer it to me if they don't want it anymore?
No
at this point I think they are trying to get as many former customers off of HW3 to minimize their exposure seeing that is truly appears HW4 and above is required to realize fsd
I have Enhanced AP on my current vehicle, and I would spend the $2k immediately to fully upgrade to FSD if I had assurance that it would transfer to the Model X I plan on getting in a year or two. I'm not going to do it if there is a chance I get screwed and have to buy FSD all over again, though.
I live in AZ. We have had WAYMO for like 2 years operating autonomously. Previous to that their cars were on our streets for about 2 years prior to that with drivers mapping and correcting. Leon's "data" from all his cars does not have anything on WAYMO physically driving the routes THOUSANDS of times and storing all of that ACTUAL DATA. Imagine people believe that this can be done safely anytime soon without LIDAR which Leon refers to as a crutch. Tesla stans are soooo excited this morning. It is the same feeling they have felt DOZENS of times over the years. Christmas is coming!!!!!! Just not sure when.
They need to make performance boost transferable from car to car
Probably better to wait to get a car in December if you’re on the fence.

[deleted]
They offered it for Foundation Series, so I think it is still a lever they are willing to pull in some cases! Its small potatoes in the scheme of things
Hmmm... maybe they should have a option to purchase it as transferrable along with the current (mostly) non-transferrable and subscription? $10K (??) for transferable, $8K for non-transferrable, and $100 a month subscription.
A word of caution - what you originally paid for, was FSD. What you buy now is Supervised FSD. So this FSD transfer is more of a conversion to Supervised FSD, relinquishing any claim you might have to eventuality be getting Unsupervised FSD.
yes, the old car would just get basic AP, new car the FSD
When these offers come back, does it typically apply to people that have already transferred once or do they hold to the "one time transfer" language?
what if i have EAP on HW2.5.. would that transfer over to a 2024 S?
The thing I ACTUALLY want…
Fingers crossed !
Will it work when buying a used tesla on their website?
I just called support they said this isn't true
That I don’t know.
Nope, only FSD so you’re have to pay 2k to get EAP to FSD on your current car
What do you mean? Buying a used then transferring that FSD to another car? Or transferring your current FSD to a used Tesla. I THINK it’s only for new purchases. That’s all they care about
Unfortunately support is almost always days or weeks behind what it happening. Tesla changes stuff so often that it takes time to catch up with Elon’s knee jerks
They probably won’t need to be as aggressive once juniper is out though, not for a year or so
I'm at least 2 years away from wanting a new car and I'd never want year one of a new generation car. Too many issues
They absolutely won't lmao
You already got free benefits, why would they keep giving you free shit over and over again?
Yeah I'm holding out for HW5 on the Juniper which mostly likely has an updated infotainment unit. Doing the jump from HW3 will help future proof the car for FSD. I really want to transfer FSD, but I really don't want a model 3.
Highly recommend a test drive. I got annoyed at it the other day and caught myself. "Jesus, come on." Kids: "What's wrong dad?" "... my magic driving robot didn't understand me the first time I told it to do something..."
They offered it last Christmas time. But not with 0% apr
300k miles you are paying 2.7 cents/mile for FSD that is ever improving but already easily good enough to use every drive. It's dumb not to buy it.
They provide these special offers quarter after quarter as an incentive for existing owners tied to their cars due to unlimited features to upgrade. So it obviously has value to them. But why don’t you ask them directly why they do it?
I'll use autosteer when I'm on a highway that isn't very busy, but it'll probably take a while for me to be comfortable with FSD if I ever get it. Especially if my wife and dog are in the car who wouldn't enjoy the car doing weird things.
> This is a LICENSE for a product that continues to improve. Any license for a product that continues to improve will always depreciate in value. The problem is that it's a license. A license that can be taken away at any time. You do not own it and as such, it's treated as a depreciating asset. Especially if buying a new license can be cheaper than buying an old license. Also, licenses can and do expire. How many software applications improve every year, yet after a few revisions a new license takes the old ones place.
Hey I agree with literally every word you said. If I paid $8000 for FSD license. and one day Tesla takes it away, I think they’ll have a pretty big lawsuit on their hands from millions of people. So it’s not quite that easy. I wouldn’t put it past them anymore though. My meta point remains the same. They’re using FSD transfer to entice people to upgrade their cars from last generation to current generation by “letting them keep” the FSD that would otherwise go with the old car sale. They can absolutely do this. I’m proposing that if they let me keep it, to me, that asset is worth $8000 forever (ignoring inflation for a second), say if I don’t buy a car now because I’m traveling overseas for 2 years but say in 2026. That’s all I was saying. It’ll just stay on my account. It’ll actually be a BETTER idea to always make people buy a Tesla because they’d be able to reuse the FSD in my book. It’s an $8k bait. Make it permanent. Now the reality is that you can always subscribe to that piece for $100 in USA so a majority of people going forward will never buy it given the shenanigans they’ve done with early adopters.
Apparently unless it’s a cybertruck
Agreed. It peaked at like 12K I thought and now it’s already cheaper
Pessimistic theory: they're hoping to get enough HW3 FSD owners onto HW4 via these offers such that there will be few enough left that they can get away with bailing on (actually) FSD for HW3.
This
So like the billions of miles of training data..?
Only place I see it is on the trade in page
The language specifies a one time transfer.
bummed it can’t be transferred to the non-foundation series cybertruck
How about free supercharging transfer as well! Then we are talking
i own a model y with FSD . anyone know if i can transfer FSD to cybertruck non-foundation with the new 80k offer?
Yup transferring fsd to a used tesla that they sell. Makes sense that they won’t do it to used ones tho
Not on the CT
Yeah. On the Tesla app it says only new and NOT CT https://preview.redd.it/2kostps1afud1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eea9bb238480d9ead2030ee1750650b0494724f8
I understand why incentives are done, I just think the "reward early adopters" logic has run its course 12 years later. I can understand not wanting to give up unlimited supercharging, but premium connectivity is really cheap already.
Tesla can aim an incentive at whoever they want. Clearly they feel they people who bought Tesla’s before and are due for an upgrade may be worth it to them. I don’t see why you are so opposed to that idea. It doesn’t hurt you.
Yep, I’m waiting for my FSD, free supercharging and premium subscription before I buy again.
Tesla.com doesn’t exclusively say the model on the site, I ordered my Cybertruck and am hoping my X’s fsd will transfer.
I’m holding out until it’s offered on the cyber truck or attached to my account.
The advent of LLM’s was teslas saving grace not even two years ago. “Code” was rewritten recently. It’ll keep on being rewritten. Nvidia has a dojo type program that trains virtual on based physics and then gets sent into physical world. Have you not seen the robot dogs? Almost guaranteed that the Chinese will be at most a year behind. It will, no doubt, trickle down quickly from there. If the price of robotaxi will be similar to Uber bs prices, I don’t see people jumping on the service. It needs to be substantially cheaper.
Really hope they’ll offer low interest rates on the purchase without FSD. I want to upgrade to the Y and currently have a 3 with FSD. The interest rate on new vehicle makes it almost the same price as just rebuying FSD.
Agreed. I bet they do sooner than later
I just accepted a trade in on my 2018 Model 3 for my Cybertruck purchase and even though it doesn't say anything about exceptions for transfers, I sent a message and service just confirmed it will not be eligible for the Cybertruck. My trade in value WITH FSD is only $12K.
Got my non-FS Cybertruck…two days before they announced this. Yup, I’m pissed. Their FSD transfer article doesn’t say anything about Cybertruck not being able to transfer it. Just trade in the FSD vehicle and bam, FSD on the Cybertruck a day later.
I hear ya, it leaves a really sour taste in your mouth!
Are you serious?
