Gonna be a close call this year. Hopefully, over the next 2-3 years, lower rates, the Model Y refresh, cheaper Cybertruck versions, and, potentially, new models push these numbers even higher!

James is a clown.

>Hopefully, over the next 2-3 years * 2025: 2.9M * 2026: 4.3M * 2027: 6.5M Yeah, that's... not happening.

Depends if they can deliver a compelling car in the $25k-$30k range. And if they can deliver robotaxi software... All bets are off.

Edit: So I’m learning, the insurance thing is dependent upon price of your Cybertruck, where you are located, age of the drivers, and if your state allows Commercial vs PPA or etc coverages. Still insane, and I’d just go with Tesla insurance at this point to make sure there were 0 areas for denial. They just stopped insuring the Cybertruck in many areas, across multiple insurance companies, citing the defects and issues ongoing with the vehicles; now GEICO and 2 other insurers are pulling policies left and right — only a couple out now who’ll even INSURE the Cybertruck, and only if you’re willing to pay a SUPER steep premium — I am so glad I opted now not to buy even a Model 3, because of the issues seen with driving those into the water and the batteries literally exploding and catching the entire car on fire. Mostly Florida, that I’ve seen that, but it has happened in Texas and Cali as well, especially after high water floods… and the cars should be able to travel in water sans worrying if it’ll catch fire. Basically, insurers are beginning to walk away totally from EVs that don’t come standard with basic level safety measures and don’t warranty or cover basic things like the battery for the lifetime of the vehicle, among other things, and Elon is flat out against many of the things the insurers want. I look for them to not be allowed (Tesla’s) on the roads within a year or two… and it’s definitely 👍🏼 happened to other, less prominent car projects trying to develop EV tech… so it can absolutely 👍🏼 happen. Edit for below!👇🏼: Check the videos of EVs everywhere (especially recently) catching fire in high water conditions, and the EVs range for EQE’s all the way to Tesla’s and Rivian’s. It happens. YOU can ignore it to your own detriment if you want, but it’s not for me. I’m not parking an EV anywhere near my home either. Just saying! Do your research 🔬 folks!

Never happening without LiDAR, and Musk has said, no LiDAR or proximity sensors because it causes “the cars to do weird things” — you mean like avoiding pedestrians and fatal car crashes? Yeah… 👍🏼

J4R3DHYLT0N 2024-10-07 19:54

No, it definitely 👍🏼 isn’t.

J4R3DHYLT0N 2024-10-07 19:55

James is right… I just feel that this community doesn’t like to hear they made bad investments… but ultimately, you gambled on an untested product and lost. Too bad, so sad. On to the next project, and company.

ChunkyThePotato 2024-10-07 20:18

Considering a Rivian currently costs around $100k to build and a Tesla currently costs around $30k to build, I think one is far more likely than the other.

ChunkyThePotato 2024-10-07 20:20

Do you shoot lasers out of your eyes when you drive? No? I guess that means you hit a lot of pedestrians and cause a lot of fatal car crashes since you're driving with just vision, right? No? Huh, that's weird...

Ah, I see you've got a political agenda and just want to crap on anything Elon-related no matter what the facts are. I'm not gonna argue with any of the dozen assertions you just made because I've driven a Tesla for years and know first-hand that it's great, and the Tesla Model Y wouldn't be the best-selling car in the world if the masses didn't agree with me. You're way too deep into your political tribe that it's clouding your view of facts. Seek help. Anyway, no, you don't shoot lasers out of your eyes when you drive. You drive with just vision. So it's obviously possible.

StartledPelican 2024-10-07 21:04

As far as I am aware, essentially none of what you said is reality, so I don't think it is worth engaging at this point. You are exaggerating or misrepresenting Tesla specifically and EVs in general. Feel free to put a "remind me 24 months" so you can come back and see how your prediction plays out. >I look for them to not be allowed (Tesla’s) on the roads within a year or two For the record, I think this prediction is ludicrous (pun intended).

StartledPelican 2024-10-07 21:05

To clarify, I was not suggesting indefinite 50% yoy growth. I was simply expressing my optimism that Tesla has not hit a ceiling with 1.8 million cars in a year.

J4R3DHYLT0N 2024-10-07 22:41

I see you have the same one, just on the MAGA side of things. We can all see history, bud. 😉 Enjoy your Tesla! You’re gonna be one of few who does in the near future! Most are getting traded in as fast as they can get them to a dealership.

Oh! No! You have completely destroyed my world view! These links definitively prove everything you said to be true! I will now go sell my Tesla and only buy ICE cars! Thank you, u/J4R3DHYLT0N , for opening my eyes to the truth! /s for those who need a visual cue. Mate, I know you are not engaging in good faith. You are trolling and/or too deep into whatever flavor of media-delivered kool-aid is your favorite. For the record, your links do nothing to prove the wild, baseless assertions you made up above. Furthermore, I think I will just block you because life is too short for conversations like this.

Suitable_Switch5242 2024-10-09 14:35

I don't think anyone is saying it didn't happen. Taking single digit instances and extrapolating is misleading though. ICE vehicles catch on fire all the time. Sometimes while driving, sometimes while parked, sometimes after flooding. The existence of EV fires doesn't mean the problem is worse than with other types of cars, or the cause of insurance issues. TL;DR Your data does not support your conclusions.
