And it’s cleverly advertising Cheetos Puffs by putting one on the nose.

coffeebeanie24 2024-10-05 21:23

dang even on the semi the panels don’t line up lol

TheophilusEV 2024-10-05 21:23

A Tesla semi at a gas station lol

TFlSGAS 2024-10-05 21:36

Looks like some shit off CARS somebody photoshop eyes on that thing

Jumpy_Salamander1192 2024-10-05 21:42

Lmao nobody is safe from the panel gaps

darkllama23 2024-10-05 21:45

I wonder when more are gonna be delivered, I want to see more on the road

Salategnohc16 2024-10-05 22:07

IMHO we will need to wait for gen 3 cells or even gen 4, semi 2.0 and the factory going up, so end of 2025/start of 2026.

Zen4rest 2024-10-05 22:36

Why cover the license plate? It’s dumb to do this in like 99% instances.

[deleted] 2024-10-05 22:54

These bad boys are the best part of living in Sac.

wJaxon 2024-10-05 23:00

I’m not educated enough on the circumstances of when you should and shouldn’t so I just sit on the side of caution just incase this is that 1 percent

wJaxon 2024-10-05 23:01

If I had more time I would have asked for a tour of the cabin. When I saw a rivian Amazon truck he let me tour the inside and it was pretty sick !

InvictusShmictus 2024-10-05 23:07

It looks like an upside down PI symbol

coffeebeanie24 2024-10-05 23:14

bro why am I being downvoted 😭

AppointmentGlad4262 2024-10-05 23:19

There is a white one making deliveries out of Fresno, California! I see it at Walmart and Food4Less in Madera, California! The driver sits in the middle of the cab. It is so fun to watch him drive with no sound!

AppointmentGlad4262 2024-10-05 23:20

Gas stations have mini-marts. 🤨

Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2024-10-05 23:44

Because people want to pretend that panel gaps don’t exist I voted you up!

Conscious_Box7997 2024-10-05 23:46

Looks cool.

standardphysics 2024-10-06 00:00

Were you around long enough to hear it? I've been wondering how much noise they make.

HeadlessHookerClub 2024-10-06 00:31

True. It’ll be several more years until these become a decent option in more scenarios. It could potentially be over 5 more years, but who knows.

deadlychambers 2024-10-06 00:37

Does it use Tesla superchargers? I don’t want to pull up next to that guy.

redkulat 2024-10-06 01:01

Dangerously ~~cheesy~~ EV

wJaxon 2024-10-06 01:25

unfortunately not as he was parked the whole time

Fleabagx35 2024-10-06 01:32

Gee, I wonder who owns it? We’ll never know because OP censored the plate!

Ant966 2024-10-06 01:56

I always see them when travelling far distances on the highway and it live it.

Purple-Return- 2024-10-06 02:01

You do realize that every car drives on the roads everyday with their license plate on display for millions of eyes and cameras. It’s not a social security number.

wJaxon 2024-10-06 02:06

👍

-AScrubjay- 2024-10-06 02:21

They’re all over northern Nevada. GF1 is producing semis

Legendenis 2024-10-06 02:27

You’re being considerate! 🤙

PlaidPillows 2024-10-06 02:31

I've wondered that too but I assume they've gotta have semi specific ones that can put way more power in to charge them fat semi batteries otherwise they'd be so shit to use as an actual semi Or so my civilian brain thinks

deadlychambers 2024-10-06 02:37

What if they have 4 batteries, and they use 4 stations at once? There is no way someone wouldn’t have posted it on Reddit by now. Maybe they have such a big battery that they can make the haul anywhere. I could probably google it, but I like the mystery at this point

htnut-pk 2024-10-06 02:46

And, you left the other car’s license plate visible 🤔

PlaidPillows 2024-10-06 03:03

You sound like me. I always just prefer the mystery. However in this case I HAD to know. Them fat bitches use a MEGACHARGER https://x.com/RodneyaKent/status/1683865013814177792 It's as awesome as you'd think

OrionCyre 2024-10-06 03:29

Haha agreed, I see them all over and on 5 a lot.

Lost_Purpose1899 2024-10-06 04:09

Tesla and Pepsi have been too quiet about the Semi. I’m beginning to think this project is not going as great as they have hoped.

th3thrilld3m0n 2024-10-06 04:45

It kinda looks like a vertically stretched MY lol.

420Deez 2024-10-06 06:52

i got mine last month

deadlychambers 2024-10-06 11:11

Yup, I think if we ever met in the real world we would immediately become friends. Because that is what I was really hoping for, something epic

Taherr007 2024-10-06 14:19

Very cool to see in person, but I don’t think anyone is expecting these to be a viable option for replacing diesel semis

handspin 2024-10-06 14:37

Bepis ahh ev

mickpop 2024-10-06 14:42

I keep seeing them in Modesto, CA

endo_ag 2024-10-06 15:47

I think I’ve spent more time hearing about these than they’ve spent driving.

GoodEffect79 2024-10-06 16:00

Left it in the middle of a gas station parking lot?

GoodEffect79 2024-10-06 16:01

And… if he needed to stop at a gas station for snacks, he could be refilling the tank right now. Instead he’ll have to stop again somewhere to charge?

AppointmentGlad4262 2024-10-06 16:17

Not even diesel powered tractors refuel at mini-marts. There are these places called truck stops. I was told he can go his whole route on 1 charge, then plug in at his company’s yard. I doubt the driver is buying snacks, he / she is probably restocking the mini-mart.

DAlanStewart 2024-10-06 16:51

Gas stations need Pepsi delivered.

RegularRandomZ 2024-10-06 17:06

This is literally PepsiCo using them in place of a diesel semi and they continue to expand their fleet. Tesla also isn't the only one making BEV semis, Freightliner, Volvo, BYD, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Lion, et al., all have BEV Semi options \[at this point though Tesla is leading in efficiency and range\]

RegularRandomZ 2024-10-06 17:13

Seems a bit hyperbolic. Based on [a recent presentation](https://new.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/comments/1fj5aki/teslas_head_of_semi_engineering_dan_priestley/), they've accumulated over 7.5 million miles across Tesla Semi's, a decent amount of driving.

RedditismyBFF 2024-10-06 17:34

Drove by my first Tesla semi last week and I rolled down my window -boy it was quiet and more like I was passing a car and not a semi. No grinding gears or loud engine.

Taherr007 2024-10-06 17:35

I am aware Pepsi is using them but I highly doubt it’s anything long range. For electric semis to genuinely level and match diesel it’s gonna take a lore more time, no other alternative is able to equal the capability and range of diesel, FOR NOW

dtpearson 2024-10-06 19:32

Not all semis do max range all the time. I live 2hrs (about 200km) away from a capital city, so basically ALL of our semi deliveries are approx 4hr, 400km runs. So Tesla Semi would be perfect for basically all of our heavy truck deliveries. https://www.canarymedia.com/articles/electric-vehicles/electric-trucks-could-handle-millions-of-short-haul-routes-across-north-america

RegularRandomZ 2024-10-06 19:45

PepsiCo uses it for routes up to 450 miles but also for 75 mile routes out of their distribution centers, Tesla uses them between Giga Nevada and Freemont (gmap \~260 miles). This is real world use that displaces diesel semis \[while also accumulating miles and data to refine and improve reliability for the mass production version\]. The focus on long haul trucking isn't productive when more than half of cargo \[moved with diesel trucks today\] can be serviced by existing BEV models charged at distribution centers or depots. Volvo referenced EU cargo stats pointing out 45% of EU goods travel less than 300 km \[their 2025 VNRe truck goes 600km\]. And referencing [US Dept of Transportation](https://data.bts.gov/stories/s/Moving-Goods-in-the-United-States/bcyt-rqmu) >**Total \[US\] freight moved by distance**: The largest percentage of goods, by weight and value, move relatively short distances (less than 250 miles). Approximately 74.1 percent of the weight and 56.2 percent of the value of goods moved less than 250 miles between origin and destination in 2023. In contrast, about 6.4 percent of the weight and 16.6 percent of the value of goods moved 1,000 miles or more in 2023. Still, Tesla's Semi chargers purportedly can add 70% in 30 minutes, an additional 350mi during a driving break — and they are purportedly planning \[as a start\] an 1800 miles charging corridor \[9 stations\] from Northern California to Southern Texas; so they also intend on using them for long haul use. It will take time to build out charging network \[multiple charging hardware companies have shown off MW class chargers\], let along manufacture enough BEV semi's to displace diesel fleets, but these trucks should be capable of it.

RegularRandomZ 2024-10-06 20:08

Quiet as in giving a Keynote speed last month at an EU international automotive trade fair? \[[reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/comments/1fj5aki/teslas_head_of_semi_engineering_dan_priestley/)\]. Or a modest number of articles and videos with PepsiCo. Tesla is also actively building the mass production Tesla Semi plant in Giga Nevada. What part is not going well?

Spend a summer here and tell me all the fun things you did

LewTheDawg6055 2024-10-07 01:17

Besides overheat

x3nhydr4lutr1sx 2024-10-07 02:57

Getting stuck behind them isn't too bad. They accelerate fast enough like normal slow cars. Can't wait till short-haul trucks are mostly EVs or hybrids of some sort.

FreshNoobAcc 2024-10-07 08:50

Pretty sure they charge these at special charging points (megacharger) at the pepsi factories, while loading/unloading. i doubt you could charge it meaningfully at a supercharger

FreshNoobAcc 2024-10-07 08:52

I feel like, in many cases, someone could forge the plate if they owned the same car, and rack up bills on highway tolls, but how realistic is that? If it’s someone driving recklessly they could get doxxed

blumhagen 2024-10-07 10:46

I’m of the opinion that Tesla should develop their own trailers. Have a floor of batteries.

shifterak 2024-10-07 13:51

I've spent time in logistics and trucking automation and can tell you that would be a very bad idea. The inside of a trailer gets beat on VERY HARD, you'd run the constant risk of piercing through the floor and causing fires or explosions.

Mr_Mi1k 2024-10-07 16:41

Does our grid have the capacity for a large switch to these? I love it but idk if this is something that can overtake ICE in the coming years

TheEvilBlight 2024-10-07 16:58

Surprised they didn’t pivot to Tesla minivan earlier.

HotNeedleworker344 2024-10-07 17:07

There is only about 100 of them and they are more visible around Sacramento, Modest areas where Pepsi and FritoLay have their centers.

aptwo 2024-10-07 18:17

They're quiet, no smelly exhaust, and less to no brake dust. I'd preferred these over any diesel trucks riding in where I live.

aptwo 2024-10-07 18:19

I pass by them on the highway a few times, they are super quiet, at least at highway speed and didn't hear anything loud.

[deleted] 2024-10-08 15:53

With nuclear, probably. 12 stalls at 250 kW on v4 superchargers is 12x250 (extremely rough peak estimate), and that’s 3 megawatts you’re talking about. With about ~2.5 million active semi trucks, that’s a big strain.

[deleted] 2024-10-08 16:45

As someone who owns trucks, I think they're neat, but the center driving position would be an absolute no go. For complex backups you generally have your window down and you stick your head out the window a bunch of times to check stuff. A mirror or a video screen pretending to be a mirror won't do. I'd have to physically get up and stick my head out the window. On the flipside, blindside jackknife backups might be better. There are situations where you just can't see anything and have to get up and look out the passenger window. Either way I can't make use of one anytime soon. I mostly do offroad hauling where it's hard enough to get diesel sometimes.

Sixdaymelee 2024-10-08 21:54

Yes, with renewable energy.

Sixdaymelee 2024-10-08 21:55

The lack of exhaust pollution is what I'm most excited about.

dajaguar2 2024-10-09 03:36

Why blurring the plate?

tindoe 2024-10-09 17:36

This argument bothers me. If any other industry was told they they had guaranteed growth over the next 30 to 50 years all they have to do in invest in their production they would jump on that instantly. But for some reason the power companies just moan and complain about not having capacity instead of investing in their infrastructure. Just seems insane to me.

Mr_Mi1k 2024-10-09 17:37

Nuclear is an obvious answer but people are too scared of it

OptimalFunction 2024-10-09 19:19

At one point, we didn’t have the capacity for all these ICE cars but we built gas stations. Same thing with Teslas - but all these chargers came online. And now we are going through the same thing with EV semi trucks…

Mr_Mi1k 2024-10-09 19:31

We are alarmingly behind the goals to get off ICE in the next few decades. Unless people stop clutching their pearls about nuclear, an electric shipping fleet will put immense strain on the grid

CoriesMom 2024-10-10 00:59

Why do people blur license plates!? It’s public

wJaxon 2024-10-10 04:58

Just felt like it 🤷‍♂️

Reiscakes83 2024-10-10 20:41

Cool truck but those pillars in the windshield sure look to limit visibility by blocking the view of the driver to me. Maybe it’s different inside from the drivers seat, but it looks like it would hinder the view to me.

n0th1ng_r3al 2024-10-11 02:22

Better cover the license plate so nobody goes and steals a 6 ton semi

[deleted] 2024-10-11 04:47

[deleted]

AppointmentGlad4262 2024-10-11 04:48

Thank You for saying so! Nice to know!

dopef123 2024-10-11 18:30

I think it depends on where you live. California is starting to have a crazy amount of solar power.

[deleted] 2024-10-17 16:24

shifterak 2024-10-17 16:30

Ground clearance, breakover angle, departure angle. All are important considerations in the geometry of the trailer. And I've seen holes that I can see through to the ground multiple times

[deleted] 2024-10-17 17:08

[deleted]

shifterak 2024-10-17 17:21

I'm sure if it's a feasible idea, given the many challenges it would present, we will see it within the next decade. Time will tell.
