Didn't even know this was included with premium connectivity...
This is confusing no?
>Starting December 1, 2024, your LiveOne powered by Slacker Radio account will no longer be included with your Premium Connectivity subscription Whats confusing about that?
Hooray for people with lifetime premium connectivity! They will still have slacker included. I guess Tesla couldn't remove it for them

I looked into it. It just seems that Slacker was renamed LiveOne at some point in the past few years. The same service that is listed now under streaming, will be moved to a music service app called LiveOne. It will be alongside other apps like Spotify and Apple Music. The email was extremely and unnecessarily confusing.
Can you please clarify?
Tidal doesn't even stream HIFI with premium connectivity. Not surprised.
You get the ability to use streaming services like Spotify and YouTube Music.
you don't need premium to use those, I hotspot my phone
Unless I’m mistaken, the app was called Streaming, not Radio. Radio is for the actual AM/FM radio.
The email could've been worded a little better and will probably cause more confusion than anything (because most recipients probably didn't know about their Premium Connectivity including a LiveOne account/subscription), but basically prior to this announcement, anyone with Premium Connectivity got a "free" LiveOne subscription included with that. So starting Dec 1, that benefit goes away and if you want to continue listening to LiveOne you must pay for a subscription on your own. Once you pay for your subscription, you will still use your Premium Connectivity to listen to the content on LiveOne.
im confused, does this mean my tune-in songs won't work? will my favorite list still work?
True. That's what I used to do with YouTube Music and I still do with SiriusXM streaming and ReListen. It's easier for me to have it natively for making changes while driving. It's worth $99/year for me but I can see how it wouldn't be for some.
[deleted]
Does Tesla have to ability to assign wifi connections as metered so it doesn't try to upload all the FSD data it collects over your phone hotspot? While most people are unlimited, some have priority limits. edit: I guess for now I'll turn off all data analytics.
Did anyone actually use this?
Tesla will stop providing a complimentary subscription to Slacker/LiveOne. That is the important difference.
I was always under the impression that was what my $10/mo was giving me. The ability to use "Streaming". So now the $10/mo gives us... the privilege of streaming other paid services through the UI on the car?
[deleted]
Can't you just opt out of the FSD data sharing?
Well that sucks. I actually really like some of the Slacker stations, like Alternative Party.
Software updates will still be downloaded over the hotspot. Yeah, I guess I'll disable analytics to send Tesla a message.
A lot of people have hotspot coverage through their already paid-for phone plan. So the cost difference is $8.25 vs $0. Pretty trivial with iOS or Samsung Android to setup an automated task to turn on Wi-Fi hotspot when Bluetooth connects to your car. $8.25 was palatable when I was getting a $4/mo music app for free, but I'm not paying $8.25/mo for a data connection when I already pay for one with my phone plan.
I don't think so, only Premium gets live traffic. But navigation still takes it into account for rerouting decisions.
Good it’s trash and I’m tired of it showing up in my search results
what percent of the premium connectivity users that had slacker for free will move to the paid version ?
All the time
The email is a little confusing, it's called Streaming I think. I'd be surprised if a lot of Tesla drivers never used it.
[deleted]
That's correct. You're paying for a cellular data connection/plan.
The analytics settings must not apply right away. I turned off analytics and connected my hotspot and my Tesla very quickly uploaded 1GB of data within 10 minutes.
don't quote me but I thought there's an option to download on wifi only. I've never had a software update on hotspot.
[deleted]
USB drive solves this
Software updates download in the background anytime you have a WiFi connection. It downloads it BEFORE the new update popup.
Probably fewer than the percentage that will drop premium connectivity altogether.
yea no color coded traffic visualization. Which is what I would really miss. I guess if you are one to check your sentry al the time, premium allows you to view live sentry cameras. so to me, it's not really worth the extra money
This is how I understood it. Didn’t know liveone was something more than radio lol
I think sentry mode and dog mode live cameras are linked to it. It's kind of cool to have that part. I was able to catch a nosey Karen neighbor taking pictures of my grass she thought was too long in my front yard and gave the car a few honks to get her off my propery.
I mean, you sign into the streaming account you want to use and then it will continue to just play music…
will you upgrade to paid version?
With Spotify, I very rarely ever used it.
Probably. My other option would be Apple Music at 3x the cost
This won’t impact lifetime connectivity owners will it? Because thats one of the features it came with… they can’t be striping features from the older cars like that. Not without a lawsuit they would lose.
[deleted]
Gotcha, so the ability to stream not just music services but Netflix, YouTube or other platforms. Makes sense.
Watching Netflix/YouTube/Disney+ while supercharging, or just taking a break.
Hotspot on the phone has a data cap though, my existing plan has 25GB per month I think.
It had no ads. Yeah, it wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't crap either.
I use it for accessing Spotify and video streaming natively on the car, I'm aware you could use a hotspot for that but prefer not to drain my battery/ fiddle with it to get it to work. Worth the $99 per year price, at least to me.
You’ll get a notification a new update is available before you download the update.
Good thing I just traded in
So what you're saying is it doesn't just play music. Lol Having extra steps is the definition of not just doing something. Might be minor, but that's different.
Mine is unlimited, but my data can be deprioritized after 50gb.
No AM radio on my Y FM only
You don't have to sign in every time you get into the car...just the first day you pick up the car lol. The 30 seconds it takes out of the years you have the car is essentially nothing.
Now I'll have to investigate a Jellyfin or Plex web client to stream my music from home, since I'm paying for the premium connectivity. Maybe someone will be a nice browser UI for the Tesla broswer to this end.
I see the little HIFI icon come up for some songs
Navigation is degraded without the traffic data you get with premium
I use it all the time so it's refreshing to hear us lifetimers get to keep it
When I’m in the car, I’ll sometimes give it the voice command, “play X song.” When it played that song, was it LiveOne who was doing it? If I sign into a different streaming service and use a voice command, will it go through the streaming service I’m signed up for?
I pay for premium connectivity for the traffic/nav, but I JUST got past a hump of wanting to trade my M3 in and now this is reopening all that. I was happy they added Amazon Music, but it has been working like shit, so I was still using this for music. Such a PITA.
Shitty that they can remove it for people who already paid for the year. Mine just renewed in July...
Nope, but the car navigation still uses the traffic data for the routing, so all the visualisation gives you is some colours on the road that, for me at least, were little more than "there's traffic lights here" markers, which is generally pretty obvious without the red/yellow
Hotspot is wifi... from the perspective of the car at least
why did you guys use slacker over the others originally? Price?
"As of Dec 1, 2024, Tesla will no longer subsidize LiveOne products to some of its customers. However, LiveOne will offer all Tesla customers discounted LiveOne music packages, the company said. “The conversion opportunity has enormous upside by offering Tesla owners an opportunity to upgrade and have access on all devices at discounted priority pricing,” said Robert Ellin, CEO of LiveOne. Tesla will continue to pay LiveOne monthly for grandfathered users in perpetuity."
I don't remember a whole lot of other options when I got the car 5 years ago, but I liked the genre and decades stations or just using it to play a song I want and then the others that follow are similar in style. My kids have specific stations they ask for when they get in and will be frustrated to lose those. My desire to stay within various genres made the USB option irritating- it was either pick an album or shuffle EVERYTHING. Has that changed? I never used Spotify, but my kid has been using it in my car and it does seem to work better than Amazon Music (which just doesn't play half the time?) so maybe I'll subscribe to Spotify myself. Or maybe I'll just pull the trigger on going back to a normal car company where they don't change things on me all the time. (I'm still mad at one software update that deleted all my settings several years ago.) ETA My favorite thing about Slacker was that if you didn't finish listening to a song, it would start over again when you get back in the car. Not finishing songs drives me somewhat batty with earworms and that feature helped a LOT with that issue.
Come on man, you're sugar coating this into a presumption that tech savvy people paying for premium connectivity don't know what they have? They know g\*d damn well what's included when it comes to streaming music.
Its a bait and switch routine and trust eroding from customer standpoint. Its NOT like they are introducing a new service or app and making you pay to have it, they are taking it AWAY and making you pay MORE to get it back. Very non customer friendly tactic and they need to be called out for it.
So am I losing radio or not? I just listen to basic radio in the car
I used it a lot first because it was free. I couldn't justify paying for both premium connectivity *and* Spotify premium.
I'll sum it up for you, it doesn't give you much at all. Red lines showing you people queued up at stop signs and satellite view option. That's about it unless you also turn on Sentry mode and want to stream video (and massively drain your battery).
Remember the others werent added to Tesla until less than 1 year ago (other than Spotify). I owned my Tesla since 2019, I've been using the bundled Slacker for 5 years.
So currently I can use the voice recognition to say play so and so and it would do it on Slacker. If we don't subscribe to Slacker on December 1st, will it default to one we do subscribe to? Or do we have to say play so and so on YouTube or Spotify?
What do you mean lifetime premium connectivity? I have paid for Tesla premium internet service yearly for $99. So that means I will have Slacker included?
[deleted]
If you pay then you don’t have lifetime premium connectivity. It was a perk included for early adopters, not sure when exactly it was removed.
Thank you. This should be the most upvoted comment. This clarifies that a discount will be available for Tesla owners and that those of us with free lifetime Premium Connectivity will continue to receive Slacker/LiveOne at no charge. My 2018 M3P with free lifetime Connectivity and Supercharging continues to get better! (Though sadly this time it’s only because the deal got worse for newer cars ☹️)
gotcha. makes sense
I don't think the problem is the extra steps per se but the extra cost
Lifetime premium connectivity is 'free' for those who got it included, like the lifetime free supercharging.
It was removed the summer of 2018 for the 3, later for S/X
I think those must be downloaded via wifi
I guess this means I can’t listen to the radio without paying for LiveOne?
Most people have a streaming service that they use outside of the car on their phone, etc. Just use whatever streaming service you already pay for?
Terrestrial radio? Like 104.5 fm? That's not changing. The default music streaming service is going paid.
How do you argue removing something completely just because it had no replay function? It was still a perfectly good ad free streaming service which now has be taken away. Period.
So what exactly IS changing? Can I still use Apple Music for example?
I would ask did anyone use the satellite view. Now that's a useless feature to pay extra for.
Yes you can. Think of it as your internet service is not changing, but the free streaming service that came with your internet plan is going paid now.
Can I get SiriusXM to replace? /s
Ah. I had to go out to my car to see what you’re talking about. The app now called Streaming which I have never used. Now I feel a lot better. Thanks!
I don't.
One lesser known fact is that navigation will still account for traffic without premium subscription, it just won’t show traffic status on the map
Just FYI. LiveOne currently charges $4 a month or $40 a year for their premium subscription. Tesla's Premium Connectivity subscription is $10 a month and $100 a year and currently includes the LiveOne (powered by Slacker) premium subscription without ads that won't be included starting December 2024 in North America. So while Tesla wasn’t likely paying $40 a year for it to Slacker, to me, it’s still $40 less worth of benefit for my $100 annually. Now a whole lot of people didn't and do not care about Slacker/Liveone, I definitely did. It was a good ad free curated radio (almost like a lightweight SiriusXM) which contained many genres of music / podcasts / news / comedy etc. The audio quality was pretty decent. And having this meant I didnt have to sign up for Apple Spotify, Amazon, or Tidal. I am thus really disappointed with this announcement because this is how it reads to me: I still have to pay Tesla $100 a year for the premium connectivity, but won't get a benefit anymore that now costs me $40 to retain that I used to get as part of that $100. I would rather they get rid of that Caraoke feature but then again, I’m sure some folks love that. And this very point brings me to my final thought. I don’t know if it is too quick to start bashing Tesla for starting to nickel and dime their faithful customer base because this wasn’t their most used feature, I get it. But my question is - where does it stop?
I tried it and didn't like it anyway. It does not curate the stations very well. I use Pandora on Bluetooth on my Iphone. a Pandora app would be nice, though.
Tune-In is not the same as LiveOne (Slacker). They are two different apps and services. Tesla’s premium connectivity plan currently has a FREE version of ad free LiveOne (Slacker) which is very similar to SiriusXM. It has many curated channels. It’s on your car right now if you enable it in the Sources option in your music player by clicking on the settings icon. That benefit will go away and you’re now required to get your own subscription to that LiveOne service going forward which is $40 a year - IF you ever used it or cared about it. TuneIn is unaffected. My theory is that something changed when Slacker become LiveOne and they no longer have the agreement with Tesla to bundle their ad free plan or that the price went up way too much for Tesla to bundle it in their $100 a year premium connectivity plan.
The cheapest plan on their site is $3.33/mo?
Had no idea I had slacker
I have lifetime on my 2019 3, was it later or do they re-add it sometimes like the %0 interest rates and FSD transfers?
If I remember correctly, electric cars can't have A.M. radio because of the frequency.
And nothing of value was lost 🤷♂️
They can, it’s just much more involved, adding expense.
You are not losing FM over the air radio. That's not part of premium connectivity anyway.
Yea maybe they brought it back randomly. Our Early 2018 3 had it, my sisters LR 3 from fall 2018 didn't. But our summer 2019 P100D X had it along with FSD + free supercharging.
>ETA My favorite thing about Slacker was that if you didn't finish listening to a song, it would start over again when you get back in the car. Not finishing songs drives me somewhat batty with earworms and that feature helped a LOT with that issue. YouTube Music does that.
Just so people know, all you get from Premium Connectivity is ...... Live Traffic Visualization Satellite-View Maps Sentry Mode - View Live camera edit.. & live supercharger data That is it! It is straightforward to set up a shortcut automation on an iPhone to automatically open a hotspot for the Tesla to connect when you get in the car, you literally have to do nothing to connect once it's set up. With that being said, $100 a year isn't a bad price to pay for convenience, I pay it. I like the live Sentry.
I appreciate your explanation. I continue to use bluetooth and enjoy free music on YouTube. Adding another fee on top of an existing one doesn't appeal to me.
Yup and I don’t even have the Live View. Will probably be dropping Premium Connectivity
You can still use it on the screen with a hotspot. Once you set up a shortcut automation to connect your phone hotspot to the Tesla WIFI, there is nothing to do. Literally, all you lose is 1. **Live Traffic Visualization** 2. **Satellite-View Maps** 3. **Sentry Mode - View Live Camera** 4. Live supercharger data (edited)
Thanks for breaking it down so clearly!
How many of us are going to cancel the connectivity and get a WiFi hotspot?
Just like passenger lumbar adjustment. Elon says cut costs wherever you can and then gas light your customers by telling them "the data shows you don't use it". Its the same message getting parroted on this thread where people are writing in saying "I don't use Slacker radio streaming" so its good that its gone. With that logic, I don't use my Frunk so take that away too. Same with the glass roof, I never look up at it so take that away (it makes the car too hot). I don't use the stupid fart mode and somehow that stays? FU Elon!!
I have been using Bluetooth. I didn't realize that there was a way to see the phone screen on the Tesla screen
I really like being able to see the red and yellow lines, but I thought about canceling when I saw that mentioned elsewhere!
Perhaps, but I'm not sure when it would have the opportunity. I'm an apartment dweller that uses public parking. There's no wifi in the parking lot and I only tether a phone to download updates.
Good to know! I'm just so overwhelmed lately with tech changes. Like I've truly reached middle age. I kinda want to get a car with a CD player and just drive around with a huge Case Logic again. I don't want to pay Google. When I signed up for gmail beta in 2004 or 5, they told me is always have unlimited space and now they keep telling me I'm running out of space and I need to buy storage and it's the principle darn it! But they already own me so I might as well give in.
I read this article from a couple different places and I was still confused. Can I still listen to Apple Music without buying another service?
At least they let us know when something’s affected - unlike Verizon and yesterday’s outage. Apples and oranges perhaps.
Yeah, you can't use those or the browser on basic connectivity - without wifi. If you're chilling somewhere and have wifi you can use them with wifi for free though. Satellite maps and live traffic display/routing also require premium connectivity.
For real? I got that on my Cybertruck nd 3 LFG
I'm in the same boat, dont pay for any external music service, was using the LiveOne/Slacker that I paid for as part of my Premium Connectivity subscription.
Now that YouTube music works, I don’t need slacker.
There's dozens of us. This is a real kick in the nuts. I hate subscription services, but at least Tesla provided a useful one.
There's dozens of us. This is a real kick in the nuts. I hate subscription services, but at least Tesla provided a useful one.
Honestly never used it, and don't care about the change.
My wife uses my car a lot and this was the expectation. The car provides streaming radio option (and 98% of the songs she wants to play are available). Get out of your bubble. Lots of non tech savvy people are buying and using these cars now. People who rent these cars might not want to sign into whatever random subscription service just to hear a budget curated ad free music.
I probably won't.
Yes when you use voice it uses Slacker/LiveOne, which we will lose Dec1 even tho we'll continue paying for Premium Connectivity
Nothing of value to you personally was lost, many of us used it as part of the Premium Connectivity (PC costs $100, $40 of which was for Slacker/LiveOne - now we are losing the $40, but still paying $100)
If every damn thing you want to buy is "less than a cup of coffee a day" or whatever random method people claim to say it's inexpensive, it all adds up to a lot of friggen fast food meals or coffees every day/month. Add up all your streaming or other recurring fees every month. Now how much is that?
Definitely thinking about it.
> $10/mo Pay by the year and make it $8.33/mo
I used it all the time too, will not be paying for it tho, might drop Premium Connectivity as this was $40 of the $100 cost
Yes, that was live one/Slacker. We will really miss this feature
Your (very wrong) opinion.
Unless it wants me to scan the QR code in order to log in again like it does every 6-8 weeks…
This. Totally agree. It was a great feature to stick in the car. Minimal data usage, doesn't require any 3rd party apps, and doesn't require you to have your phone with you.
I’ve had Spotify logged in on my profile for a few years now (since they stored the login per-profile). I’ve never been signed out of the account in that time
Are you kidding me? I use all the premium connectivity features. A lot. As does my wife who will flip out when she finds out she can't just hit the scroll wheel and say "play zombie by cranberries"
I challenge you to find a hotspot plan for $8.33/month. If you do find one, please let me know because I'd love to pick it up.
Yes. The app in the car named "Streaming" is powered by Slacker/LiveOne, and Tesla previously gave you a free premium account on that service if you had premium connectivity. That free premium account is going away; no other changes to premium connectivity.
Oh okay got it, thank you!
Not the phone screen on the Tesla screen. The Tesla screen will work the same on hotspots as on Premium connectivity with the exception of the four specific things I listed.
Yes
Don’t you dare touch my karaoke feature
I’m 60 and I still love new tech. I wouldn’t go back. My day will come I’m sure.
Every. Day.
Who in the what now?
For people without unlimited high speed hotspot it would give you internet as the biggest thing.
$10 a month for a cellular connection is fair. The company probably tried charging Tesla even more and they dropped the company.
Drop the $10 premium connectivity, pay the $3 for Slacker; save $7
Cool. What even is this? Been a year of service and I have no idea what this is, don't care.
Never have I seen that happen
You know he ain’t paying for that 😂
You’ll lose your internet connectivity without premium tho. Unless you’re doing Bluetooth or WiFi/hotspot.
So i'll lose Satellite View (no big deal), Live Sentry (never really used it after the new novelty wore off) and traffic visualization (it still routes you around traffic, just doesn't display it). I can still use Radio and USB for music, or stream from my phone over Bluetooth. I'm struggling to see what I'm really using Premium for tbh (even before the Slacker/LiveOne removal)
Using the internet for YT/Disney/Netflix/Browser.
Also my biggest question. As someone who used Slacker quite a bit, I’m disappointed but if I can use voice commands for Apple Music instead, that’s fine I guess as I already pay for that. But if I have to manually open the app and select each time, that’s kind of a nightmare on that app in the Tesla, especially while driving.
Never parked in my car. Like I said, probably not the right fit for me
I think the assumption is most of us already have hotspot as part of our existing cellphone plans (in the US at least). So yeah, going out and buying a new plan isn’t worth it, but canceling premium connectivity and using my already paid for hotspot on my phone to stream music may be if I’m ok with losing the other features premium connectivity offers like satellite view/traffic visualizations, etc.
thx, i never used slacker, will check it out
Well, you have till December 1 :)!
Same. The music was the only reason I cared about premium connectivity. I don’t need to see traffic data or satellite maps. I don’t watch Netflix in my car. There’s no reason for me to ever pay for it again now. Unless Elon takes away the navigation, too, without paying. Hopefully at that point I will no longer drive a Tesla.
I personally don't see how this is a big deal. I used Slacker back in 2018, but haven't really used it even one time since then.
I am thinking even with that premium subscription, it will still do the shuffle thing? Like I search for a song, instead of playing that it will jump to some other song?
It's funny, because the experience in connecting to WiFi is so comically bad. Like, why can't I keep WiFi on __all__ the time?
EU and AUS spec cars got free premium spotify instead of slacker :P Losing this too though in december...
September 2019 in Aus.
afaik you can now? it has been patched?
Don't want to pay for other subscriptions. It's nice having a large selection of ad free music.
It is "patched" but it works poorly on purpose
If you're using your phone, why would you use the hotspot instead of Bluetooth audio?
Same 😭
A friend signed into Spotify on my car for a couple weeks and the voice commands ended up controlling that. "Play Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day" and it'd go to Spotify. When she signed out it reverted to Slacker. Oh, and *this bums me out*. I loved Slacker and the convenience of the voice commands. 😭
My car grabs onto Wi-Fi at Superchargers and a few public hotspots.
I guess my taste in music is old/lame enough that Slacker gave me the exact song I wanted maybe 95% of the time. And I loved using the voice commands to choose a new song or artist or genre. 😭
Just got the email that I'll be losing the included Spotify premium account on dec 1'st. What a shame, it was my primary reason for having the premium connectivity.
Spotify did that for me
Where do you pay by the year? I'm in Denmark, and haven't found such an option...
I use it for the top 20 to see what people are listening to but yes not a big change for some of us.
/s aside, isn't SiriusXM inbound as a chic like Applemusic and Amazon?
Good to know, thanks!
I was surprised by this too
what percentage of premium connectivity users even used it or knew they could?
Same message just received in Germany, except here Spotify is affected.
I’d be sad to lose an extra Spotify account.
yep. and I'm extremely pissed off
I see it's coming as a streaming option for non S-X models, so that's good. When premium connectivity was announced, bundled radio was nice. Normally I either use LiveOn or bluetooth audio from my iPhone. Guess I'll actually have to setup the Apple Music app now. A bit salty after going through and finding out how many monthly and annual subscriptions I have (had).
So bottom line: All Tesla vehicles ordered on or before June 30, 2018 will continue to have access to existing Premium Connectivity features at no cost for the lifetime of the vehicle. All others will lose slacker unless they pay another sub... tell me you dgaf about your customers without telling me your dgaf
I didn’t know, I just swipe the card tbh. All I knew was I get in the car and it has playlists
Not me. We heavily prefer Spotify, or on the rare occasion, bluetooth from my phone. The only time we used Slacker was when someone at the house was using the Spotify account, which is pretty rare for us.
it's so I don't have to use my phone lol I can just pick the music on the screen
If you have Tesla premium connectivity and say, a premium streaming service subscription like Spotify or LiveOne in this context that you paid separately on their respective websites, the search in Tesla will work if you are signed into those apps in Tesla. Shuffle won’t work with LiveOne after December. It’ll show you a QR code in Tesla and say premium account required just like Spotify.
oh I just pick music with ok google
I think it uses the last music service you used. I always use youtube music and voice commands for specific songs go to youtube music instead of slacker.
you people need to just modernize already and use your phone/bluetooth
At minimum, Slacker/Live should remain until your next renewal. So…for annual subscribers It’s hard to believe they can pull this mid-term, surely someone will make a bigger issue of this.
I don't really like how the car handles the bluetooth handoff. When I'm washing the car opening doors etc it takes the audio from my AirPods. I'd rather keep them completely separate, phone calls included. Using the infotainment to run music seems to work better.
Idk how you even tolerate those apps. Hulu was never useable loading slow as molasses and Netflix. Spotify was slow too.
I use YouTube music and haven't ran into that issue yet.
I only use Apple Music and navigation. Both work well for me.
This sucks, I use that Radio all the time. Also, bring back the fart mode!!
I just stop the renewal of premium connectivity for next year, may go with Apple Music instead, with Bluetooth from my phone I assume. https://preview.redd.it/d0e95m1m9fsd1.jpeg?width=1064&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05fc81e8f79c282fb1f17ef8bef5cb0183d62b67
The car already comes with a cellular data connection. In fact, I am pretty sure that Tesla pays AT&T a fixed fee for a total amount of data consumption across all the population of their vehicles per region. Your $10 is only offsetting the cost of the total population of vehicles consuming LTE data. Tesla doesn't charge you for uploading gigabits of driver behavior or road video that is getting uploaded to the cloud unbeknown to you (for their benefit).
Good riddance! I don’t know anyone who would pay for it. Just extend your Spotify, YouTube music, Apple Music, Amazon Music or Tidal? Glad we now have a ton of options!
I see LiveOne in place of Streaming now. I also have TuneIn, which has a bunch of channels and podcasts, plain old Radio, and of course Amazon Music, which is what I listen to most of the time. I think it's going to be OK without Slacker.
Premium is such a rip off
same
Who TF listens to am/fm radio anymore?!
💯
Yes, but it won't be free. I'm hoping for Pandora at some point.
People who want to hear local news, traffic, or like a station’s music curation/talk show personalities. Also if you have shitty cellular where you are, FM/AM is a good substitute.
Damn bruh, I have spend so much time down-voting songs just to curate my own playlist. This is such a shitty move
Yup, that's me for sure! Streaming is nice but I prefer the human interaction that comes with radio.
And Spotify premium being removed. Nothing like reducing the value your customers purchased once they already committed. Almost like the false promises of FSD and Enhanced Auto Pilot beta software.
I use that for streaming and use it a lot. I'll probably pay I want Qobuz...
You would still have to pay for LiveOne starting from 12/1/24. The Premium Connectivity just allows you to access your streaming account.
I have Premium Connectivity, but don't know what LiveOne is. I don't stream music at home or on my phone, so am unfamiliar with this world. In my car, I do list to Oldies, which is one of the genres under streaming. Does this mean I'll lose that option? Sorry for the stupid question, but as I said, this is not my wheelhouse. TIA.
Same here. My annual subscription renewed in July. We’ll only have FM radio if we don’t pay for LiveOne..
This was the only reason I ever considered paying premium as I don’t use Spotify. I guess I’m just going to stream music through Plexamp now. What’s even premium good for now? Satellite maps? Seems like music streaming is the only thing made it worth $10 a month.
Every Tesla ive ever driven used this for music over Spotify or anything else. I just stream all my music from plexamp. But this LiveOne music was the only reason I ever considered premium connectivity, nothing else from it is useful to me.
Pretty sure it does live routing without premium, it just doesn’t show you the traffic, it still routes based on traffic though.
Plexamp from phone all the way baby!
What is live supercharger data?
Plexamp is amazing, been using it for years. Works very well, you get the album art and everything.
Why not just stream over Bluetooth from your phone? You still get album art and all that.
Bluetooth works well. You get album art and stuff just like a built in app.
I wasn’t sure what they are excluding and I don’t even use it. Thanks for pointing it out.
It shows how many spaces are available at the super chargers, allowing to decide if you want to wait in line or push forward.
😂😂😂
You dont need premium for that. I dont have premium and it shows me number of spots and even will say how many people are en route and how long the wait is.
I used it while I had a year of free Premium connectivity, it was really good, just as good as Spotify. After 1 year ended I only considered to subscribe because of the music. But now thats gone there is no reason for me to subscribe. I just use Plexamp to stream via bluetooth works perfectly.
With YouTube music, I hardly use it anymore.
Slacker radio is for fart bags
Are you changing your password, or forcing a sign out elsewhere or sharing your account with others?
Me too, my new favorite after dropping Tidal. Tidal got rid of the military discount so I dropped them and I have been listening to electronic non -vocal even since. I have lifetime Prenium Connectivity so I trust the streaming option is still included. I am sick of getting nickel and dimed by all the stupid streaming fees and increases.
Same, and I will not renew my premium subscription anymore.
It was free. As a free service, it was bad, and I don’t see why I would pay for it. I will get Spotify or Apple.
There is a free version of LiveOne that you can signup for. ETA: I have been informed that the free version won't work in Tesla's (WTF!)
Yes, what Tesla listed as "Streaming" was Slacker which is now called LiveOne. The Tesla-provided (built into the car) Slacker account is going away so you won't be able to listen to LiveOne streaming unless you do something.
Yea that's the worst part, even if you do pay for a premium Slacker (LiveOne) account you are basically starting over from scratch.
I called and asked for a pro-rated refund. Obviously the rep had never heard of that and said he would check but I’m not counting on hearing something back.
You can't use the free version with Tesla. I just tried it by signing up for a LiveOne free account and when I tried to login on my Model Y it wouldn't let me and said it needed to be a premium account.
Tesla gave me a user name to use for the LiveOne account. Where do I put that user name and what does the user name do? Does it give me free service with LiveOne?
Thanks for that info!
I don’t even know what that is.
What’s the frequency, Kenneth?
You can. Check keep connected while in motion.
> I still *have to* pay Tesla $100 a year for the premium connectivity I mean, you don't *have to*, it's a choice. We got two cars and with this change at least one of them is not gonna pay for premium anymore, this was a staple for us with the kids in the car. They're starting to nickel & dime us, good thing there's some competition now. > I don’t know if it is too quick to start bashing Tesla for starting to nickel and dime their faithful customer base because this wasn’t their most used feature, I get it. You don't nickel & dime for an unused feature, you do so to extract more money from pockets for a used feature.
Me neither (UK), it’s really annoying as I have to grab the invoice every month to expense it
So I have a question….. is there any point in getting Tesla premium connectivity?
Is it per vehicle? Or if you have 2 teslas could you share the cost between them both?
Per.
If you scan the barcode from the streaming app, it tells you the features and price. One feature is "Take your Tesla music history and ratings anywhere you go with the LiveOne app"
Have a masters in computer science & would like to think I’m pretty tech savvy and I had no idea about this 🤣
Ooooh, that is very cool to know, should I decided to get the app again after this price change haha. Ty tho
From a Cracker Jack box.
This is not good. I pay $13.99/month + taxes in Canada for premium connectivity on our 2024 M3H. We love the music streaming. The rest is not important to us. Now we are getting an on screen pop-up with QR code to Liveone. We will have to pay another $10.99/month, don't know if it is US or Canadian dollars. This is not aceptable to us. We will cancel Premium connectivity. We already have an Amazon Premium account. I will Bluetooth from my phone to vehicle. This at least will permit me to use Alexa through my mobile device and Bluetooth to stream content we like and save the $13.99/m we were paying to Tesla. It bugs me that vehicle price dropped $5k after purchase and now they remove streaming music content eventhough you pay the same amount per month. What consumer accepts this? They should lower the cost of Premium connectivity to reflect reduced services. Their communication on this is hidden, obscure and rightout clandestine in our honest opinión. You are looking our recurring monthly payment Tesla.
So how does this work when you own 2 teslas? Will I have to pay twice for LiveOne, one for each car? Or can the same account be used in both? Anybody use Spotify in more than one car? Pretty pissed my monthly bills just increases because Tesla is now too stupid to play music. Wtf
How do you a lifetime of premium connectivity
F Musk and switching to Spotify! Even the free Spotify is very good. Ads are not bad, can skip upto 6 times per hour. If Musk keeps doing this fuckery, I will ditch Tesla and go with something else.
I agree. I am getting sick and tired of Musk! Just annoying! #1 Killjoy. Used to admire him. Just cannot stand him anymore.
Tesla has a history of betraying their loyal customers. Musk must have got the idea that all MAGA people will buy into it anyway!
The problem I have is currently pay for SiriusXM radio. If they would just allow that to play, then I wouldn't care about premium connectivity.
Also, I paid for premium connectivity and they removed slacker radio. I won't be surprised if there's a class action lawsuit for this fact.
Yea there totally should be, they need to learn you can’t keep doing stuff like this.
Unless I want to listen to SiriusXM radio. They don't want the competition and removed that app a while back, so my only option is to stream it through Bluetooth.
This happens to me for regular YouTube. I always have to log in to use it.
I never looked at it like that. I looked at it as my $10/month giving me premium connectivity, which included slacker. Now, they're asking us to pay for that, which is fine. But they should then give us the option of logging into SiriusXM radio, which is way better. I see this as no different than Apple only allowing you to buy their apps on the app store. Let me log into SiriusXM radio and I wouldn't mind this change. But it's clear Tesla is going down the "we're going to nickel and dime our customers for more revenue" route.
And I'm completely ok with that. But now that Tesla is forcing us to pay, I should pay for what I want. I already pay for SiriusXM radio. Let me just stream that then. But Tesla is saying, "You now have to pay for streaming and we're the only option!" Obviously, you have things like Spotify. But regarding a live (or semi live) radio service, they're the only allowed option. For now, I'm forced to stream SiriusXM radio via Bluetooth.
I looked into this initially when my free streaming service ended. Like why can't I have a wifi hotspot device always in my Tesla and have it tethered to it all the time? If it doesn't cost me more on my cell phone plan, it's a win. Tesla also recently made it such that you can't keep the USB charger ports working once you leave the car. So for anybody who decided to do this, their hotspot no longer gets power when they leave the car.
So does this mean streaming any music will no longer be available on Tesla
It is what is unfortunately. Does anyone know the deference between the two package options they offer? It sounds like if I only get the $4 package I won’t be able to search for songs anymore, can anyone confirm?
Sound like liveone will lose a lot of customers all at once
Can you not get the free LiveOne subscription and use your phone to play via Bluetooth? I know it’s not allowed to be played natively with the free level - but that should work. Also, during Cyber Monday - they tend to have better offers - something to keep in mind for those wanting to have this natively in the car.
They've been cutting corners ever since the beginning. Removing USS sensors, no free homelink (I think 2018 M3 and cars before that came with homelink), removing lumber controls for passenger side seat, etc..... This is not new for Tesla, unfortunately....
now that its almost november, who is going to pay for Liveone radio? for those that are not grandfathered in, what is appealing about liveone offer compared to spotify, apple, etc? for those that have other streaming accounts, why would they choose Liveone in their tesla?
This article suggests there’s a free version available with ads. I wonder how all this plays out. I really don’t want to pay for another subscription. https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/2350/liveone-announces-tesla-subscription-pricing
How do you pay for annual subscription? I only see the monthly option?
So, they will reduce the Premium connectivity charges, right?
They haven’t mentioned that, so I don’t expect it.
How did you get the lifetime subscription?
I ended up getting the subscription, but it won’t work with other driver profiles, does each driver need a subscription?
Lol I'm in the dozens club. It was the best part of premium connectivity. I don't want to have to worry about my phone streaming, I have Amazon music with my prime, but preferred liveone
so we may lose the free subscription, but if we create a paid account then we have access to Liveone on our phone and the in car. so I'm curious... are you guys going to cancel a Spotify, apple, etc premium account and switch to Liveone for the cost efficiency and convenience of being able to listen to your music wherever?
How do you know if you have this?
For running multiple companies, he sure has a lot of free time to be hanging out with the president elect and calling world leaders.
What did you replace it with?
Same exact car lol
Yep. If I hadn't gotten a chance to transfer my lifetime supercharging to a new S Plaid, I would have kept my old S with lifetime SC and streaming radio. Tesla will continue to pay for those cars
Lol
How are we so sure we get to keep it if we have the older cars w lifetime premium? I am considering a class action if they do take it away from us because when they sold us the cars this was a specific included feature so its like they are trying to strip away what was a promised perk. Has anyone reached out to Tesla directly on this yet? I figured would start the class action after December 1st rolls around to confirm if they are really going to try this or not against all of us.
Conveniently, Tesla screwed my brains and the brains of millions of others out doing this. If they wanted to cancel the music they should have at least grandfathered in the people who paid for a year in advance for premium connectivity. Instead they just drop my favorite part of the package with no apologies just a big middle finger. And no refunds. How lovely, they charge you for something and then change the terms less than 2 months into a yearlong agreement that I prepaid. Very upset with Tesla in general and this is just the latest fuckup. I swear they are deliberately trying to piss their customers off.
We will cancel our 1 year premium renewal on December 1. Those cancellations in numbers will get attention. At minimum they should have extended music access through end of current terms for subscribers.
I remember not so long ago how fun owning a Tesla was. Now the chargers are filled with off brand cars and they are nickel and diming me at every turn it feels like.
What does caraoke use? Will we lose that feature on Dec 1st without the subscription?
Has anyone actually been able to connect their Tesla to LiveOne using a Plus or Premium account? I've been trying for a week and haven't been able to. I contacted Tesla and they didn't know what the problem was and hadn't yet had any calls about this issue. I contacted LiveOne and am waiting for a response. It should be as easy as entering email and password into LiveOne app in car. But I keep getting "Unable to login. Try again later". Any help would be appreciated.
I’m debating trying LiveOne as I’ve been enjoying Slacker. But recent reviews of the app are 1 star and not encouraging. I have downloaded the app, but not yet subscribed to plus or premium. I tried to sign in on my car screen and notice the message says “Premium account required”. Not the $4/month or $40/year PLUS account, but a more expensive PREMIUM account. I don’t think I have the email from Tesla anymore. Were there any details that specified how much we’d need to pay?
I have lifetime premium connectivity and got in my car this morning and it’s not working
Ok so this isn’t true. There doesn’t appear to be a free version.
I read an article about a free version with ads. But that seems to be false. As of today, only a paid version is available.
I got lifetime connectivity. As of today Dec 2nd, the "Slacker" radio that was included in it no longer works. This sucks balls.
Just like how Netflix hooked us at $7 a month then slowly raised it to $21 and us suckers keep allowing these corporations to screw us
Any thoughts on how to cash in on this "discount" that LiveOne music/ Slacker is offering to Tesla? On their website, it's 40 bucks a month for their premium (no commercials) package.
I’m hoping other brands get much better in their EV offerings. Been really hoping to move on from Tesla. They cut corners and their quality still just isn’t up to par, but their tech and charging network is great.
Don’t pay for Tesla Connectivity. Just use Bluetooth to cast it to your speakers. The $100 per month is strictly convenience in not having to use your phone to launch media
Did they bring back LiveOne/Slacker? It just started working again and I dint pay for it.
Mine just came back today I'm wondering what's up too.
I am an early adaptor. I still have live one. Are we the lucky one who are grandfather in?
I have the annual connectivity plan and my live one is still functional so I think this is actually the case.
My vehicle was ordered May 2018, I do not have lifetime connectivity in my Model 3. I'm on annual connectivity plan.
