Mhmm. Sure. 👍. I’m still waiting on “6 months definitely” till full autonomy for 5 years now

Future-Back8822 2024-09-14 01:08

Robotaxi 8/8...2045

taska9 2024-09-14 01:19

It's happening this year.

Ynkwmh 2024-09-14 01:47

Anybody short-selling Tesla is out of their mind... There isn't a worse time. EDIT: I notice I'm getting downvoted. Joke's on you.

Ynkwmh 2024-09-14 01:50

Partially.

ryfitz47 2024-09-14 02:29

I'm pretty sure 2017 is going to be the year

IAmWeary 2024-09-14 02:55

I just remember these words of wisdom: The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.

xKronkx 2024-09-14 02:58

A worse time is tomorrow

LeAntidentite 2024-09-14 03:25

With Tesla it happens, just must later than pretty much everyone expects it

jamrocboi128 2024-09-14 03:59

I guess you don’t have a Tesla? FSD has been superb for the last few months

xKronkx 2024-09-14 04:13

It’s graduated from a 16 year old with a learners permit to a 16 year old 1 month before their drivers test. Source: have a M3P with FSD

YagerD 2024-09-14 04:52

Lol

Plaidapus_Rex 2024-09-14 05:13

Short sellers know exactly how much they can manipulate a stock. They do it in waves, timed with poor performance or bad news. Some are just haters, but most are planners. Or they lose a ton of money and aren’t short sellers anymore.

athousandjoels 2024-09-14 06:19

This is such a mixed signal for me. On one hand it’s clearly a harder problem than everyone thought. Making me question the investment timeline and even if it’s possible. On the other hand, if a company has to build a supercomputer and fleet to solve it, then solving it is worth an obscene amount of money.

rebootyourbrainstem 2024-09-14 07:01

Well, there is going to be an announcement this year. I expect them to announce a new product that will have full "robotaxi" functionality, to be available at some point in the future (probably they will announce a date in next year, but after the announcement this could be arbitrarily delayed). I expect FSD in current cars to mostly continue on its current evolutionary path, justified by "we are rolling it out incrementally and also we are bound by regulations". It's going to be hard to draw a line when full autonomy is actually reached.

adrr 2024-09-14 07:34

With HW3 or HW4? Or will there be a HW5? And whats going on with the 4D radar on the new cars thats not being used?

ufbam 2024-09-14 08:01

As they've only been on full end to end for a little while, I'd give them a bit more time. I look at the progress of other generative ai tools like Midjourney etc. and how they've improved over a couple of years of training with bigger and better curated data sets. I can see how this new end to end path can lead to full autonomy, but the validation phase is going to get harder as the faults become rarer. At least the training part of the puzzle is going to be quicker with all the new compute.

Bill Gates has a very large short sale position.

athousandjoels 2024-09-14 12:17

My money is bet on them solving it. The other thing AI could allow is shared microbuses where people schedule their destination and these things would pick up several people and take them to the same place. This would be transformative for bigger cities. Benefits of subway/bus but with way fewer stops and shorter commutes.

aBetterAlmore 2024-09-14 14:57

> Benefits of subway/bus What benefits are those?

aBetterAlmore 2024-09-14 14:59

I thought it was 2016

haight6716 2024-09-14 16:15

And "the company is only valuable if we get fsd to work". I cut my position in half recently. Dude has lost the plot and forgot the mission.

haight6716 2024-09-14 16:17

To justify the valuation it needs to work unsupervised. Being an incredible science project isn't enough. Other carmakers need to line up to license it.

athousandjoels 2024-09-14 16:19

Less traffic. Robotaxis solve some parking issues but not traffic issues.

coppersink63 2024-09-14 18:58

If only they were as glued to the success of Tesla as the cybertruck side panels.

aBetterAlmore 2024-09-14 19:57

Robotaxi service can absolutely increase passenger density with shared rides on commuter routes (where traffic tends to occur).  And can affect it with V2X and vehicle coordination to minimize occurrence of bottlenecks. So I’d say not entirely, meaning it will help also with traffic in most medium density cities, just not scenarios in extremely high density cities.

Tento66 2024-09-14 20:10

Still?

athousandjoels 2024-09-14 21:27

I meant “single passenger robotaxis”. We need vehicle sizes that can pick up like 10 people to a destination but have a fairly direct route.

Baul 2024-09-15 00:11

>At what point will "Full Self-Driving Capability" features noticeably depart from "Enhanced Autopilot" features? > 3 months maybe, 6 months definitely I understand your point, but aren't you moving the goalposts a bit? FSD *is* noticeably different from enhanced autopilot, even if it doesn't drive for you while you sleep. https://x.com/elonmusk/status/823727035088416768?lang=en

drbart 2024-09-15 03:34

Investing in Tesla is not for the impatient or faint of heart.

AllCommiesRFascists 2024-09-15 04:17

They don’t do any of that. This is conspiracy nonsense

bally4pm 2024-09-15 06:00

Been up by 40% to down by 8% to up by 16% right now. In for the long game.

I was trying to see if Elon was saying anything interesting about FSD yesterday, so made the mistake of reading his twitter feed last night. I only read 8-10 of his tweets, but he somehow went from from being Tony Stark saving the planet to being the weird cousin no one wants to sit next to at Thanksgiving.

aBetterAlmore 2024-09-15 15:40

> I meant “single passenger robotaxis” Ok, good thing nobody is planning that then 🤷‍♂️

bootypooop1837 2024-09-15 21:32

Shorting is more for swing/day trading and less for long-term investing.

bluefrostyAP 2024-09-16 08:18

People been trying to short Tesla since 2018

iqisoverrated 2024-09-16 09:35

Must be the reason why they have made so many billions on shorting Tesla...oh, wait...they didn't.

[deleted] 2024-09-16 18:08

I’m running FSD 12.3.6 on HW3 in my 2021 Y and that shit is soooooo much better than anything on the market. For any price. I pay 100 bucks a month. Totally worth every penny. Drives me to work. Drives me home. Drove my ass to Springfield MA from my house no interventions (2 hours with a ton of construction and hazards). And mine isn’t even the newest update. 12.5 is supposed to be even better. Doing the impossible late is kinda Elons thing. No other self driving is even close to this. I’ve tried them all in my work (car biz). Just a little FYI from you know.. an actual consumer of the product you mentioned

[deleted] 2024-09-16 18:14

Put it on Assertive Mode with Speed Offset by 10%. It won’t drive like a raging Trumper seeing a rainbow flag but it will not drive like his toothless grandmother either

Plaidapus_Rex 2024-09-17 02:26

Your innocence is precious,

AllCommiesRFascists 2024-09-19 01:10

There isn’t a cabal of short sellers colluding to keep prices down. They aren’t any different from longs trying to pump their stocks

Plaidapus_Rex 2024-09-19 23:30

True enough if you discard fossil fuels and some Democrats.

Radium 2024-09-21 04:27

Short sellers *know* what they're talking about. Specifically they \[and don't forget their AI bots\] talk/share/upvote things they *hope* will cause Tesla investors to sell, lying and skewing the truth is fair game to many of them.
