They reduced the volume in the default .wav file.
You can get (or make) a louder one and just name it lockchime.wav and load it into the top level directory of the USB drive used for dash cam stuff.
I customized mine and made startlingly loud, haha.

I customized my own .wav file, and I increased the gain until it was just loud enough that the speaker didn't sound distorted.
That's the file I'm playing on the video on both cars, it's disturbingly loud on the left car (inside the garage) but quiet and muffled on the right car.

You get a short audio file that you want, and export it as a .wav file using a program like Audacity. Name it lockchime.wav
Make sure the file size is under 1mb
Then you put it on the root of your USB stick (not inside a folder, just open the USB drive on your computer and drag it there). Plug it into your car, open toy box, then Boombox. For lock sound, choose USB.
Add a few seconds of silence at the start of the .wav file, or the sound will overlap with the noise of the mirrors folding.

FWIW, if it's a common meme sound you can just download the "earrape" version of it.
Youtube -> mp3 -> wav.
I ran this metal pipe dropping sound and it is excruciatingly loud from my car's speaker. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDVqH6aqUao](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDVqH6aqUao) (earrape warning)

What!?
GoTo toy box - boom box.
Have something playing and turn down the volume to just above it being audible.
Press Play Current Media
Now the steering wheel volume becomes your outside speaker volume control. Turn that louder or quieter.
Press Stop Current Media.
The system will retain the last adjusted volume level for the outside speaker which will now include the lock chime volume.
Cheers!

Maybe Tesla can include a volume slider to set the lock chime volume ourselves

I just went out and tried that, but unfortunately the lock chime volume is still quiet afterwards.

Feel like they removed the auto park when I left my butt from the driver seat when the car is stopped. Which is odd.

Intriguing! I guess they reduced the power of the external speaker? Maybe the dynamic range is different and you need to amp the gain more?

I noticed this too.
Originally I had dropped the volume of my custom LockChime.wav sound because it was too loud.
Then they sent out this update. I had to make another copy without my volume reduction.
It works at a volume I like now.
I have no idea whether this was a deliberate change by Tesla. For all I know, the next update will make the lock chime deafening.

You make have to name it LockChime.wav - the case may be important.

has it rained recently? did you drive over wet roads? judging by the dirt on the left one, chances are you did
the speaker gets quieter when it's wet, it dries overtime and sounds better

Yeah I've noticed the sound change after water splashes on the speaker, that's why I let it dry out in the warm garage before taking the video (I mentioned it in the post).
I've noticed the lower volume on dry days as well, it's distinctly quieter 100%of the time since the software update.

All I want is for one person in public to recognize Kefka's laugh!
My wife uses the Tardis noise for her blue car, people recognize that one.

the speaker takes atleast a day or 2 to fully dry and recover the full sound, thats what happens to mine, even if rain is light
i feel it never sounds like the first day I got it since I drove it on the rain

Just to be sure I just went out and checked the exterior speaker by playing music via Boombox. They're both clear and equally loud, they sound identical. But the car on the right still has a quieter lock noise despite both cars playing the same audio file.
This is definitely a software issue.

I realized this as well, My dad and I both have Highland M3 and his lock chime got way quieter than mine, didnt even think about the software but definitely makes sense now

I don't have a software update available for the louder car, but I just went out and checked the exterior speaker on both cars by playing music via Boombox.
They're both equally loud and clear when playing music, but the car with the newer update still has a distinctly lower lock chime volume even though both cars are using the same audio file.
It's definitely a software issue.
Edit: just noticed that you're the same person I already said that to

that's really interesting then, try the horn on both and check if theres differences?
try raising the gain on the audio file of the quieter one and see

I tried both horns, no difference (though the neighbors are probably annoyed 😅)
It's the same .wav file on both vehicles, and I've got the gain maxed out close to the point of clipping. I even [switched my wife's Tardis lock chime onto my car](https://youtu.be/p8DPp-FZLhA?si=u2U3bANrw0_JrlAw) to see if maybe there was an issue with the .wav file stored in my car, but it's still quieter.
They both sound pretty similar when listening to that video on my phone, but the difference is pretty significant in person between the two cars and the audio waveform shows it pretty well:

Noticing this too, purposefully lowered my custom file to be a reasonable level out in the open, but with this update it is comically quiet. You need to be basically standing less than 10ft from the car to hear it at all with how quiet it is. Hopefully a patch is rolled out soon, as I definitely wouldn't want to increase the volume, it gets fixed, and my car makes a very loud sound haha.

I have noticed that the boombox Megaphone option has also got substantially quieter.
You can change it inside the car, yes, but not on the phone app unfortunately.
I tried to joke around with my friend, but when asked him, he didn't hear a thing!
Checking it myself, it's barely louder than someone just talking beside you, inaudible if there's wind, or engine sounds about.
Hopefully they add a slider, or Boombox volume control option in the future.

Interesting. It seems like they may have added support for different sample rates too.
The first Kefka laugh also also plays at the wrong pitch and a bit slower than it should. Makes me think your wav file was 48000 sample rate getting 44100 sample rate playback
While the update seems to handle the higher sample rate fine..
Or something else is going on here I don't understand.

You need to stand in front of both of the vehicles to get a more accurate level of sound. At the very least, do the recording from the same side of the vehicle. You're on the driver's side of one and the passenger side of the other. The speaker is on the passenger side at the front. It's going to sound louder on the passenger side, or in front of the vehicle.

^(Happy cake day)
I actually took multiple recordings from different locations because I kept getting mic clipping from the blue car due to the loud volume, I eventually used pro video mode on my phone and manually set the mic gain to -6 to make the recording work.
Even standing to the side of the red car with the blue car behind it, the blue car is much louder.
I know the difference sounds slight when listening to the recordings on my phone, but it's staggering in person, especially enclosed in the garage: the red car is quiet, while the blue car is overwhelmingly loud.
