What does the Siri shortcut for Preconditioning do?
Hey, I just want to turn the climate on before I get in basically, but should I be using the precondition Siri shortcut instead? What does it do exactly?

You can use preconditioning for set times when you leave in the morning for work, or when you leave work to go home. All other times, which are usually going to be random, just turn on the climate control in the app!
I made a set temperature shortcut. Heats up the cabin before I get in. I’m confused as well. Because there are preconditioning settings as well. I thought that was to get your battery ready to charge.
I use it on my iPhone action button and when i hit it, it turns on the AC in my car so it’s nice and cool when i get in.
The “precondition” Siri shortcut does the exact same thing as clicking the fan icon in the app. You’re using it correctly. The only time preconditioning does anything other than cool/warm the cabin is during extremely cold temperatures it will preheat the battery. You will see an orange “wavy bacon” icon by your charge percentage in the app when the battery is heating. Otherwise you’re just activating climate control. I have no idea why Tesla chose to name it “preconditioning”. It’s unnecessarily confusing, and isn’t really explained anywhere.
The Siri shortcut is very specific with the wording too. Must use “start preconditioning the Tesla” or you car “name “. I get the “preconditioning” part though, it’s universal for heating or cooling. And a distinct keyword from other terms like “heat up” or “cool off”
Just FYI you can duplicate any of the shortcuts and rename them. I have two duplicates for summer/winter. “Turn on my A/C” “Warm up my car” This eliminates the need to use Tesla or your car’s name in the phrase too.
Ahh duplicate them? Not change the original ?
Thank you! This was my curiosity as well.
To my knowledge you can’t actually alter the original shortcut. It will just make a duplicate of the same shortcut with your custom phrase.
