Shops won’t do alignments?

Street-Anteater | 2026-03-11 17:25 | 23 views

Just installed rear MPP camber arms on my 24 MYP yesterday, took it to NTB to have the alignment done and they said they don’t do teslas (I explained I installed adjustable arms), then tried PEP boys, they said the same thing because they don’t have technicians certified on teslas. Anyone else run into this problem? Anyone know of any shops that def do teslas? East coast US

Try another shop

Ships that turn you away are doing you a favor. They are protecting you from their ignorance.  Private shops will work on Teslas. Taking to the EV group at the car show informed me of a local shop that I have used. The owner drives a model s.

Yeah I’ve read they do it but nearest one is over an hour away so rather find one closer if possible. I’m in MD

Yeah I was thinking that too, rather they say no than mess up my car.

Find a performance shop that does alignments and fits your budget. People who say they can't or won't do tesla's are just idiots that shouldn't be touching cars in the first place.

Went to les Schwab, only downside is they charge 200 for Tesla's .

There's nothing complicated or unique about the Tesla suspension. Camber adjustment range sucks, and might require adjustable upper arms to set correctly if your car has had a rough life.

My understanding is that there is some software alignment component that you have to calibrate to the physical alignment.

Not that I'm aware of. The camber adjustment is just slotted holes for the upper control arm mounts.

Tesla has an electronic power assist steering angle offset configuration in the service menu. [https://www.connieanddicks.com/2022/11/tesla-wheel-alignment-service-done-properly/](https://www.connieanddicks.com/2022/11/tesla-wheel-alignment-service-done-properly/) Overlooking it, especially if an offset is setup in there can result in some weird results when doing alignment. I'm not sure how common it is, but Tesla does the alignment with a specific ballast weight in the front seat. Not sure if that's dead common or if it's something with their adaptive suspension, but that's in the manual on it anyway.

Every alignment (for all cars) should have ballast, back when I was racing, I took the shortcut of measuring the change induced by my ass in the seat, and just set future target specs based on expected change. Service manual has a final step done via service mode, but there's no explanation for why that's done. OTOH, that is just clicking a single button. https://service.tesla.com/docs/ModelY/ServiceManual/2025/en-us/GUID-BC3BE191-4815-4505-9F22-6715F4BC8E8B.html Side note: I do appreciate that Tesla just provides all the service manuals online. I haven't looked at the service manual for the models with active suspension.

Cool thx.

Think of how much business they are turning away by not learning how to do alignment on Teslas by now. It’s like the main thing I spend maintenance on besides tires. They almost always go hand in hand too.
