Ugh. Cracked window. Mobile Repair?

videoguy75 | 2026-03-10 20:48 | 18 views

My new 2026 Y is in getting XPEL PPF and window tint. They just called: “Sir, our tech just closed your driver door with the window up and cracked the window and damaged upper trim; sorry.” Great. No more brand new perfect car for me. I went to the Tesla app and asked what to do. It said go to the service option on the app and it would guide me. It did a nice job. I am pleased. Interestingly, when it came to scheduling I had 5 options: mobile in 2 days; two very close dealers in 11 & 13 days; one 30 miles away in 16 days; and one 293 miles away in 16 days. Obviously I chose day after tomorrow, 7am-Noon. Will he actually do the repairs or just estimate it and then schedule one of the dealer locations? Thanks

Why are they not paying for it

They most definitely are.

Oh good

They'll most likely do the repair. Usually, they'll make sure they have the parts first before coming. They must already have them.

Mobile tech will replace the window and the trim. I had both done the day after I picked up my MYP a couple of months ago. (I was cleaning the windows and forgot to lower it)

Thanks

What did it cost?

Sorry this happened but im curious, how did they break the window by shutting the door? Was there something between the door and window? Doors get shut with the windows up all the time

Part of the sleek styling in no upper door frame. So the window typically goes slightly down before closing then the rest of the way up behind basically the roof for a tight noise reducing desk. Want down this time.

It was covered under warranty, but the estimate was 650ish.

Tesla windows slide up into the trim. If you open the door, you'll notice the window drops down an inch or two first, then when you close the door, the window slides back up into the trim. If you raise the window with the door open and then try to close the door, the window will impact the trim. If you are lucky, nothing bad happens. If you are unlucky, then something breaks.
