Lock Sound Volume Decreased?
Has anyone else noticed the lock sound volume has been decreased lately? I have 3 custom lock sounds it rotates through but all of a sudden I can barely hear them unless I’m standing right next to it.

How do you have it rotate between custom lock sounds?
You might check where the speaker is and see if there is anything blocking it. If you recently got some rain, maybe some water got up there and just needs to dry out or something
I asked Grok, here’s what I did: 1 Get a USB drive (the one in your glovebox for Sentry/TeslaCam is fine; use at least 32GB for easier partitioning). 2 On your computer, partition the drive into 3 separate partitions (use Disk Utility on Mac, or Disk Management / third-party tool like MiniTool Partition Wizard on Windows). Format each as FAT32 or exFAT. ◦ Partition 1, 2, and 3 (e.g., 8–10GB each; leave some space if using for TeslaCam too). 3 Prepare your 3 sounds: ◦ Convert each to short .wav files (under 1MB, a few seconds long; use free tool like Audacity or online converter). ◦ Name each file exactly LockChime.wav (capital L and C; same name on every partition). 4 Copy the files: ◦ Put one LockChime.wav (your first sound) in the root of Partition 1. ◦ Put a different LockChime.wav (second sound) in the root of Partition 2. ◦ Put the third in Partition 3’s root. ◦ (If you use TeslaCam/Sentry on one partition, that’s fine—just don’t overwrite its folder.) 5 Insert USB into your Tesla (glovebox or data port). 6 In the car: ◦ Go to Toybox > Boombox > Lock Sound. ◦ Turn Lock Sound on. ◦ Select USB as the source. 7 Test & wait: ◦ Lock/unlock a few times—may stick to one sound initially. ◦ Let the car sleep fully (park, walk away, wait 30+ min or overnight). ◦ It often switches to a different partition’s sound on next lock. Owners report it cycles among the 3 somewhat randomly after sleeps. Limitations & Tips • Not guaranteed every lock—more like “shuffle after sleep.” If it sticks to one, unplug/replug USB or reboot screen (hold both steering wheel scroll wheels) to force re-scan. • Max seems ~3 partitions before it stops picking extras reliably. • If you want true control: Keep 3 separate LockChime.wav files saved on your computer. Swap which one is on the USB root (overwrite) whenever you want to change—quick but manual. • No official playlist/rotation exists (Tesla hasn’t added it as of 2026 updates). If this doesn’t work well or feels too fiddly, stick to manually swapping one custom file or using built-in presets. Let me know if you need help prepping the files/partitions!
Yup same issue. Loads of people experiencing the same. I did log a service call and they called me to say it was acknowledged as an audio bug and will be fixed .. just no idea when. Reverse noise isn't impacted but boombox, lock screen and fart noise is much quieter
I noticed the same thing It dropped after the update to 2026.2.9. It seems to drop and raise with different updates.
Kind of off topic, but when reversing and you get close to an object, the reversing distance noise switches to the BEEP BEEP BEEP that a large truck makes the entirety of them reversing. Is that BEEP BEEP BEEP only played through the vehicles interior speakers, or can it be heard on the exterior PWS speaker also?
Yeah I noticed this too after one of the recent updates. Lock sound is barely audible now unless you're really close to the car.. Seems like a software bug.
My volume seems to be lowered after the car wash or driving in rain/wet conditions. Has anyone tested to see if a wet speaker causes it?
I was gonna post the same. I've rebooted the car, and have tried turning up the boom box volume, no dice.
The beeping sound is inside only since the outside has to have the alien sound.
Exactly same.
Interesting. I have custom lock sound as well and feel like its really loud. I wish I could turn it down.
Yes. Happened with my last update. I can barely hear it now as I walk away.
Same here. I only have my MY Standard since February so not sure if it should be louder but i barely hear it.
It may be the sound file itself (although I don't understand why it would get quieter in the last few days) or your speaker is wet when the speaker gets wet it's really a lot weaker.
Same, I doubled back to make sure it locked 😂
2026.2.3 (EU) - loud as it was before
My wife and I each have a Model 3 Highland, but she doesn't have the most recent update that I have. The lock chime volume has significantly decreased with 2026.2.9.1 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBHBFpC0Clc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBHBFpC0Clc) My software version (red, right) - 2026.2.9.1 Her software version (blue, left) - 2025.45.9 I used the same audio file for both cars, and I confirmed that the speaker grills are unobstructed. Both cars have been sitting in the warm garage for hours, so water in the speaker isn't the problem.
