Doing validation testing on 290 with a Launch Juniper and Pre Refresh MY. Looks like Robotaxi expansion is soon

Looks more like google street view to me.

Teslas dont use Lidar tho? Elon has doubled-down many times that vision-only is enough and he'll never add lidar (even if it might be better)

LiDAR is used for FSD validation - new FSD versions, new market rollouts, and RoboTaxi validation

TIL, thanks for the clarification :)

I'm like 95% sure they're just cameras, not lidar sensors. People have taken pics up close and there's no 360 degree housing and nothing is moving inside, it's just multiple camera lenses pointed in different directions. There's two more camera sensors (arrays?) on the front corners of the front bumper, as well. I don't know if you guys remember or not, but the FSD model actually "stitches" together the multiple cameras and then reprojects them from the perspective of those upper ground truth cameras. They called it "Birds Eye view" back in the day, but recent patents have still mentioned the technique. They're almost certainly gathering ground truth data so the FSD model can ensure that it's Bird's Eye View re-projection is accurate during training.
