Original battery?

sphexie96 2026-03-06 22:11

My god, going strong!

bradr8 2026-03-06 22:12

There’s no way that’s the original battery

Alternative_Air_ 2026-03-06 22:26

OB?

Sentient-Exocomp 2026-03-06 23:30

I’ve got 140,000 on my 2017 MX. I hope I can get to this point.

Sssonofagun 2026-03-06 23:45

What’s the secret?

CarbonKLR 2026-03-07 00:05

What's your estimated range at 100?

AccrualSenseOfHumor 2026-03-07 00:20

Awesome

doctorjustinmichael 2026-03-07 02:04

Absolutely there’s a way it is! You take care of it and it takes care of you!

AZ_Basinonian 2026-03-07 02:37

Very impressive indeed!! Congratulations 🎉

jazzman19 2026-03-07 04:01

How do you take care of it?

lotofry 2026-03-07 05:21

My original model s battery has 235k miles on it. I wouldn’t be surprised if I could last another 60k

youmeiknow 2026-03-07 06:19

Can you explain on how to take care? By charging minimal recommended?

Super-Kirby 2026-03-07 06:30

My guess is keep the charge at 20-80% almost all of the time of it’s life. Like all batteries (phone, laptop, etc)

Valium_5 2026-03-07 09:40

I did quick math and found it you have consumed 35,714 kWh x $0.16 = $5,714 And if you convert it to regular gas price and gallons with avg 22 mpg it comes out to be **Estimated Total Cost:** **$37,363.64**

Sea_Reaction1653 2026-03-07 11:52

$0.23 here in VT. Some places as much as $0.25.

Retarded_MCU1_owner 2026-03-07 12:00

Yessir! Trying to catch up with you in my 2017 model S as well! Free charging makes it a fun race!

DazzlingPeace5649 2026-03-07 12:13

.06 off peak in Phoenix AZ

Matterbox 2026-03-07 12:15

It’s 0.075p for off peak in the UK. Creeping up to 0.08 and 0.085 for newer contracts.

Matterbox 2026-03-07 12:16

That would depend entirely on temperature, driving style. It’s quite a variable metric.

Far-Pop-8168 2026-03-07 12:18

But if you add in the roughly $1,500 / year in additional coats charged by Insurance, you need to deduct roughly $15,000. Still better than the gas cost, but Insutance kills that savings... and for no legit reason in all honesty, just Greedy Insurance Companies.

whadzinaname 2026-03-07 12:18

So 35714 kWh got you 299,686 miles? That’s 8.4 miles/kWh. Based on this math, your range is double of what Tesla claims. What am I missing here?

Jealous_Bus_4706 2026-03-07 13:00

My insurance is no more expensive than my ICE car was.

Illyrian2000BC 2026-03-07 13:38

thats what I thought

jWreck92 2026-03-07 13:53

There’s zero chance that’s all of the energy used to drive almost 300k miles. That would be over 8 mi/kWh of lifetime efficiency

TxTransplant72 2026-03-07 14:01

Avoided maintenance is probably another net $6000-10000. Just dropped $2400 on front and rear brake job + engine oil + transmission fluid + other as it approached 100k miles. Most of which would be avoided with an EV. The SUV has been very reliable up to this point too.

reddituser4049 2026-03-07 14:02

My Tesla is $20 more per month to insure than my wife's minivan...

raysacr 2026-03-07 14:15

In SoCal, at home charging is $0.32 per kWh. Supercharging is usually $0.45-0.65.

doctorjustinmichael 2026-03-07 14:46

It’s not just about state of charge and how long it sits there, Trying keep the cycling of the battery for 90 percent of its use right in the middle of the pack will limit microcrackjng to almost nothing. I only charge to 60 percent for daily use. I also live in a colder climate half the year so lower temperatures very much help limit degradation. When it’s very cold it practically stops entirely - at least with respect to calendar aging.

AppFlyer 2026-03-07 15:50

Yeah that’s more than double what I’m actually getting so there is definitely something wrong there. Idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ideas? Anyone?

AppFlyer 2026-03-07 15:51

I’m the second owner and he took his charging to his next car :(

AppFlyer 2026-03-07 15:52

Somebody else pointed out there is no way in hell it’s only 35k, so all derivatives are wrong :(

AppFlyer 2026-03-07 15:53

Agreed. No idea why. Sorry.

Leyvaman-MX 2026-03-07 17:06

Well done 👍

CarbonKLR 2026-03-07 17:50

Yes I understand, but what does it show at 100%

AppFlyer 2026-03-07 20:39

Ah. That’s “Trip B”

AppFlyer 2026-03-07 20:41

Shows 272. I treat it like 250, sometimes a little lower because I drive like an asshole.

AppFlyer 2026-03-07 20:41

Drive all over the country for work.

AppFlyer 2026-03-07 20:42

Just replaced the camera and radar. Brakes replaced twice.

CarbonKLR 2026-03-07 21:05

That's really good, space 269. 60k miles though!

AppFlyer 2026-03-08 00:48

Yes

AppFlyer 2026-03-08 00:49

20-80 almost always, limit instances below 5%.

AppFlyer 2026-03-08 00:49

Yes

tvax11 2026-03-08 01:46

agree, mine is 70% higher insurance plus over $220 higher per year registration fees.....I'd buy another as a commuter vehicle but that needs to be factored in to the cost of ownership

Oseerabo 2026-03-08 02:51

SRP charge me .10 off peak. Maybe cos I’m on a solar plan. May I ask what plan you’re on?

brianyesadams 2026-03-08 03:47

This is all you replaced for 300k miles? Im guessing tires too obviously every 50k miles? Anything else?

AppFlyer 2026-03-08 04:57

Some front end suspension parts got damaged in an accident, so they got replaced “free” Boatloads of body work and a new roof (hail). The cable that runs the window up and down broke its plastic joint, that was expensive ($600 a couple years ago).

30sec2midknight 2026-03-08 05:42

I’m thinking that the batteries used in 2017 and 2018 were special because I’ve seen a lot of people post high mileage on their 2017-2018 models. Including my own 2018 m3 which is at 171k miles.

Froztypapi 2026-03-08 07:05

Hey OP just curious, do you know how much battery degradation you have had? 300K is a huge milestone, congrats!! I’m hoping to ride mine til the wheels fall off as well lol!

Pretty-Panic2398 2026-03-08 12:51

The ignorance of some people who think everyone pays 16 cents per kW. On long island it is about 28 cents. It's even higher in CA, MA, HI and RI. Maybe you were going by the average in the USA, but that is just not valid with such a wide range. Tesla also uses 28 mpg for their comparison.

AppFlyer 2026-03-08 15:16

I use best guess when I get down to 25 miles left. Absolutely unscientific.

AppFlyer 2026-03-08 15:19

I have had several technicians tell me the same thing.

No_Chipmunk2833 2026-03-08 16:30

Don’t live in California

raysacr 2026-03-08 16:59

COL is definitely high. But I have lived in multiple different states in my lifetime, and also have traveled to a ton of different US cities/states/countries and I can say without a doubt that SoCal is the absolutely best place to live. Bar none. Not even close. I'm fortunate to be able to afford living here comfortably. It's literally 70-80deg year round. I'm 15mins from the beach, 2hrs from the mountains, live next to 3 costcos within a 10mins drive of each other, have access to absolute best restaurants of every single type of cuisines and ethnic foods, all the school districts are top tier in the nation, all the roads are nice paved and fixed constantly, general population of people here are educated and hard working, and tons more of little nuances and conveniences that you don't realize until you move away to some bumfuck town in the middle of nowhere.

mhoepfin 2026-03-08 17:07

I haven’t paid to charge since 2019 so basically my 2015 Model S with unlimited lifetime supercharging pays me to drive it.

khall7791 2026-03-08 18:37

It’s gonna come!

WaffleHouseCEO 2026-03-08 20:57

I want 16 cent kWh electricity ☠️

AlcryptoX 2026-03-09 00:42

Is there an off-peak rate? I charge off-peak (90% of the time), and it costs $0.098 per kWh - 7pm-7am, M-F. Weekends and holidays are treated as off-peak as well. $0.32 is crazy.

but-first 2026-03-09 02:48

For me in AZ its in the tens. Electricity is cheap for me.

314159265389 2026-03-09 03:43

Damn my 2017 S has like 92,500 miles.  Great comfy driving car for sure though.

AppFlyer 2026-03-09 03:45

100 D? How much you want for it?

chicagohopeful101 2026-03-09 13:49

Where do you live that the schools are top tier? LAUSD is notorious for being horrible…

raysacr 2026-03-09 13:59

Orange County. Irvine, Laguna Beach, Los Alamitos, Cypress are like top tier school districts. Even Garden Grove, Fountain Valley is amazing as well.

Noob911 2026-03-09 16:23

Was going to ask if it was orange county, LOL. Good job 👍

TeslaModelX75D 2026-03-09 17:56

We’re spoiled up in quebec $0.08CAD :)

BBFLG 2026-03-09 19:55

$0.16? Wowza. Here in Arizona I pay $0.03 half the year.

BBFLG 2026-03-09 19:57

.03 super off peak Flagstaff October to May 10a-3p

ustinov 2026-03-09 21:41

Northern California: off peak is 36¢/kWh

Dismal-Double-1376 2026-03-09 22:44

I lived in palm springs for a while… there’s no debate, Southern California has the best weather in the nation and it’s not even close

CourtBitter8868 2026-03-10 10:30

Have you had to do any major maintenance?

AppFlyer 2026-03-10 17:42

Idk what Major means :) We replaced the triple camera (almost $1000) and the radar ($350?). Passenger door cable hook broke, $600 (which is a known issue and the new ones are metal instead of plastic).

texelectrix 2026-03-11 05:42

Electric rates in California are extremely high, but gasoline prices are also extremely high. So EV savings still hold true. I understand off-peak electric rates have often been available, offering even greater savings for EV owners who charge at home.
