This is meant to be a quick little “oh cool” as opposed to an actual financial sheet with 100% accuracy. It’s geared toward premium fuel cost and just a quick comparison.
To answer your question, no. I can’t see them ever spending time on something like that. There are plenty of other apps that easily do this for you since the Tesla API is an easy connection.

Why worry about the gas prices when you can't even set MPG? Tesla assumes something like 20 MPG while I was getting 40 MPG with my old Prius. So the gas savings calc is more than double the actual savings for me.

Use this Google Sheet to get some overall idea:

If you were setting “mpg” it would be human error

Setting MPG would be cool if you wanted to compare it to your older vehicle. To me, I'm more curious comparing how it does using an equivalent eMPG vs MPG.
After several years of ownership, it's about 1/3-2/3 the cost in fuel (depending on fluctuations in gas prices and time of year - Tesla doesn't do as well at temp extremes.
Now I no longer look at it.

I believe if you have setup your electric rate plan, and selected a state, it should show you the gas averages for your state

I have a custom automation with tesla fleet that downloads my odometer, which I daily I divide it by my old cars mpg (17) and multiply it by another api that gets the price of gas from a local station daily.
I have *good* problems.

Yeah, it’s a regional average.
I think it’d be cool if we could select petrol/diesel. The savings realization would be profound if we could.
Here, for example, my previous diesel daily driver was getting about 9mpg — 5 mi to work. And, with the summertime diesel rate here of about $5.50/gal, that works out to 61c/mi.
Compared to my MY, which I charge almost exclusively at home, 4.9c/kWh. Seeing that I get about 320W/mi, the estimated cost per mile is about 1.5c/mi.
But, yeah, it’d be nice to have a way to select the fuel cost to get a realistic comparison.

Ny always showed 3.50 a gallon when it was 2.79. Might be accurate now though that gas went up a ton this week

I wish they would remove that feature. There are too many variables and it’s not even accurate. It gives the impression that you’re saving a lot on gas but in reality it’s not an apples to apples. My electricity bill has gone up. when I take long road trips and use the Supercharger, it isn’t cheap. Plus, the time spent waiting to charge adds up. time is money.

unfortunately i did this and the electric rates aren't quite right for home use (also they just went up, and go up 4x a year for LADWP, so they are WAY behind for me) but the CA state average, like thi sphoto, is 3.15 but i don't see anything under 4.25 in my area. so i get to play fun math games redoing my costs. usually the graphs say $0 but i'm saving about $50/mo

Gasoline might be a little more than Tesla’s comparison tool moving forward

You can impact this by adding your home address to your profile. It only shows the national average by default, but when I added my address to the profile it changed it to a more accurate number of what I’m seeing locally. Check your profile in the app to see if your address is in there.
