Anyone else have this problem and how much did it cost you.

I’m referring to the concern on Spotify and software update

How long did you wait? It can take quite a while. Updates often "hang" at 0 B/s for an extended period — this is normal. The actual update file has already been fully downloaded, but the car still needs to process it: verifying the file, saving it to the correct location, unpacking it, and so on. So while no new data is being downloaded, the car isn't idle but it's just working through what it already has.

I waited while I was charging at a super charger. So about 30 minutes. I’ve heard people say to leave it for a couple hours but unfortunately I can’t park it near the house to stay connected to wifi. I’d have to stay in the car with my hotspot for hours which is so inconvenient.

For more context, I asked Tesla and was told this is issue is not covered by warranty, and they can’t simply push or force the update without bringing the car in for a full inspection. I also cannot wait several hours for it to resume while connected to wifi because parking near the house isn’t possible for me. I’d have to sit in the car with my phone for hotspot, not ideal. The problem started with Spotify unable to play music pass 9 seconds and the it would show “PLAYBACK ERROR/ LICENSE ERROR”

I've noticed every time I watch a s/w update, it pull data quickly, to 100% then seems to start over and drag it's way to back 50%, where it seems stuck. At this point I think it is decompressing or something, cause maybe an hour or 2 later, it finishes. I'd recommend just connecting your hotspot on your commute or long drive and let it download there if Wifi is out of reach for you.

I had this issue and service just pushed the update to my car over the cell connection. Didn't need to bring it in

Paro_G 2026-03-05 21:53

I’ll try this out next time, but I don’t usually go on long commutes, maximum 1 hour coming home from work.

Paro_G 2026-03-05 21:53

I asked them this and they said no it’s not possible

Mets19 2026-03-05 21:55

Sorry don't know what to say. Try another service center maybe?

Paro_G 2026-03-05 21:56

What did you ask them specifically, I’ll give it another shot.

Mets19 2026-03-05 21:59

I just told them that the software update couldn't download even with good wifi and they said they pushed one out and cleared the half downloaded one out

Paro_G 2026-03-05 22:17

They did the same just now and now I’m at 71% seems to be working but now I’m stuck at 71% lol. Atleast I know it might just be the connection with hotspot

225/h for labor is EXTREME. In the fuel industry, it's around $105 an hour in the southeast for labor. Just imagine how much Tesla is ripping us off lol. Also a soft reboot is not an hour of labor LOL

SudsingtonMcDuff 2026-03-05 22:39

FYI, the estimate is in Canadian dollars.

Goobendoogle 2026-03-05 22:40

165/h is still wild to me Especially considering there's more expensive equipment I've ordered that will cost 100-120/h to service typically.

ScottRoberts79 2026-03-05 23:04

Oh the wifi connection at most superchargers is hot garbage.

dantodd 2026-03-06 00:24

Next time just park near free Wi-Fi and go watch a movie or go shopping

dantodd 2026-03-06 00:26

Starlink is $5/mo for "standby speed."

xtram3x 2026-03-06 00:36

Cheap 4G or 5G WiFi dongle and just leave it turned on in the car. I have one for work and the battery last 12-16 hours when not plugged into a USB port. Here in the UK using an EE dongle gets better data speeds than the car's built in data connection pretty much all the time

BMW dealer near me is at $250 labor. Ford $200. I believe my nearby Tesla is also in the 200-220 per hour range. At least in a dealership setting $200 is about right and can vary by location.

kevtke194 2026-03-06 13:15

🤣🤣. I wish downloads took a half hour! There’s nothing wrong with your car. Even with my car in my driveway about 20-30 feet from my WiFi router it can take several hours for an update to fully download and install. It will sometimes sit at 0/kbs. You have to look at the signal strength. If that’s good then there’s not much else you can do except wait it out. It can take a few hours. This isn’t a phone update. It’s way more complicated than that.

junlowe 2026-03-06 13:59

Bruh Tesla just charged you 1hr of labor for nothing. You can't expect to update your car in 30mins with supercharger wifi or hot spot.

Virtual_Telephone_36 2026-03-06 14:05

My cars re-download the same update 3 times before it is finally ready to install. I’m assuming corrupted file. Also, what you see in the app and on the screen is not the actual status. I have Tessie, and it shows it in real time. It’s always at least 20% different than what I see in the car or tesla app.

Medium_Confusion_ 2026-03-06 14:15

I live at apartments with no wifi in the parking lot. I just leave my phone in the car with hotspot on and lock the car with my key card. I'll go back in a couple hours and it's ready to be installed

Goobendoogle 2026-03-06 15:12

$200 is not about right. I live in the city, we're 4th most expensive in the country cost of living. But sure let's justify being ripped off. I would always wonder why positions like mine were so hard to fill. Y'all will pay anyone lol.

Omacrontron 2026-03-06 18:01

I waited 2 weeks once. Finally updated and I got the skins to finally play around with. I kinda just left it alone and it finally did the thing one day because I’m a patient person.

ManicMarket 2026-03-06 21:58

Okay - that’s what the labor rates are in my market. You want below $200 around St Louis you need to go to an Indy shop. And even then I’d say $150 ish.

goodvibezone 2026-03-06 23:37

Our Model X's Spotify completed disconnected itself the other day and I had to QR code myself back in. Did you do a two wheel reset?

Constant_Research238 2026-03-08 04:31

Yep, it’s running install scripts and decompressing data as it goes. Totally normal.
