This! This is exactly my sentiment. I didn’t know full self driving was actually a thing, in the news they just keep saying oh he says that it has FSD but it doesn’t really have that. So that’s what I believed. It’s like they’re keeping it a secret or something. Then, visiting a friend in San Jose, he drove us around the area, or rather he just sat there while his car drove us around the area! Changing lanes, going through intersections, going through stop signs, navigating construction areas, navigating with dense pedestrians, basically dealing with everything, and the guy didn’t touch the steering wheel. And I was like oh my God what? I did not know that it could actually do that!
So guess what I did? I went home and I clicked on the Tesla app and I bought myself a Tesla.

Can’t say enough about FSD. It’s good on HW3 vehicles, but even better on HW4.
23 MYLR w/HW4 and FSD has driven 97% since 14.1 was released. It navigates from driveway to the office parking lot with little to no interaction, (sometimes I change the navigation path if one is better than the other). But the driving, dealing with other drivers, (and hateful people on the road) is done by the car. I enjoy my music and my morning coffee while it does all the heavy lifting.
Which is why I bought FSD. I just know the price will go up the closer they get to Unsupervised FSD. And it just keeps getting better with each update. I’ve also got it doing drive thru at Starbucks, McDonald’s, etc. where it auto stops at the speaker and again at the window. And if I approach from the left of my home, it even backs into the driveway and sets me up to recharge perfectly.
Worth every penny to me.

I agree but only about 12% of Tesla's have it. Guess there are people who enjoy driving. I am not one them, lol!

It's way better and faster than public transit.
More like intelligent taxi ride without a taxi driver.

My FSD still sucks. Ran through a red light recently. Constantly tells me cameras are dirty even when car is freshly washed. Idk how people drive 70 min no problem.

Some probably do like to drive. I think a lot of them have no idea how good it is. I think they are basing the decision on FSD from 2-3 years ago. And our media landscape doesn't exactly promote balanced gathering of information.
I have FSD HW4 on both cars. It has some shortcomings but our percentage on FSD is 99%. It is life-changing for us.

I do love using FSD and basically use it at all times. That said, I do wish I could have it pull into my workplace parking lot behind the building. Nothing I do will stop it from wanting to pull into a private driveway of the house next door. I've tried dropping all the pins, but the best I can get is having the car stop in front of the building. The map just does not recognize my workplace having its own driveway (and there are 2 of them leading to the back parking lot)

If I had a daily 2.5 hour commute like OP I’d think about it, but it doesn’t seem worth it when I mostly work from home. If I could sleep on longer drives, I’d be all over it though!

FSD is, hands down, the best luxury feature ever offered on a car. While that sounds hyperbolic - the fact that I now make plans without having to worry about traffic considerations has completely freed up my life. No more traffic stress when driving to the airport, or beach, or commute, or sporting event. I can now plan to visit my daughter for an all day hike without dreading the exhausting 90 minute drive home in the dark. Road trip that involves a large, unfamiliar urban area? No problem - plug in an address, push a button, then relax.

FSD works so well I watch documentaries on Amazon prime during my commute. Just pop my phone on the dash and Bluetooth sound through the car speakers.

Same. I've owned dozens of cars over the years because there was always something better or more interesting. I bought a 3, then an S plaid, now I'm basically out of ideas. Aside from a few classics (kinda on the lookout for a Lotus Esprit), no one currently makes anything better or more interesting. Like not even remotely close.

I drove from Central Valley in California to the Bay Area and back during peak traffic using FSD in my 25 M3P. The only time I disengaged was to go over speed bumps in parking lots. The rest of the time, FSD did everything while I was relaxing.

>I'm in my 60th year and I like buying stuff! I've gone from a 70 minute each way commute that left me frazzled, shoulders round my ears, not much love for my fellow humans, to feeling like I'm relaxing happily on public transport where the driving is someone else's problem.
I'm right behind you in age. And very close to the same commute. Yesterday it took me 90 minutes to get home. FSD is a massive quality of life improvement. The only thing missing is the ability to sleep while the car drives.
>A good one where there's no alien (not counting Grok talking to me in my own voice!)
I keep reading about this but it hasn't happened to me yet although I've only had one conversation with grok that lasted more than a couple of minutes. But what was very impressive is that my wife started talking to it in Spanish, the first time Grok replied in Spanish it was with an English accent, but after about 30 or 45 seconds Grok suddenly switched to her accent, a South American Spanish accent AND dialect using regional slang from that area. That was creepy enough!
I would love to have it reply using my own voice. What kind of conversation or prompts were you having with it when it did that?

It's better than being on public transport train. You have to remember to get off of your stop on a train. FSD will drive you to your garage
DaSandman78
2026-03-04 20:30
Remember there are millions of HW3 (and older!) cars out there that can only get FSD up to V12, and of those not all want to pay $99 for something that is not as good as $99 V14

True unsupervised (sit/sleep in the back seat anywhere in the country) would be a total gamechanger -we're still a long way away from that even tho there are a few cities where its very carefully running, and it would need government approval.
I'm thinking AI5-6 and 2030-2035 realistically, but hoping it comes sooner.

2026-03-04 20:43
This is the reason for me.
My HW3 2022 has been on V12 for…a long time. Dabbled with FSD on both my Model 3 and a courtesy HW4 while mine was in the SC and let’s be real, HW3 FSD has clearly been abandoned. I’m not making a fuss over it or expecting upgrades because I do enjoy driving my car but at the same time, I’m not paying the same price as a HW4 FSD car and all its improvements lol. Halve the price and I’ll subscribe day one.
Kinda susprised Tesla hasn’t offered this. Majority of owners are on HW3 and it seems like a no-brainer way to pull a chunk of them over to a FSD sub.

A driver can be pulled over for not wearing a seat belt. A driver can be pulled over for going 73 in a 65. Yet, most still do it as it's generally not something that will happen. People currently doze off at the wheel all the time. So, it may be technically against the rules yet who would really know if a driver is dozing off at the wheel or even naps. Only the car would know or if a police drove right up next to you and could tell things like hey you aren't wearing your seat belt or hey you're texting and driving. So it's something that isn't allowed in the rule book yet it's also something that who is going to know if the person does doze off for a moment or two. Nobody can say "hey don't fall asleep it's against the rules". The pragmatic feeling of dozing off outweighs the rules in that situation and the car keeps getting you to your destination safely even if you do. So is it allowed in the rules? No. Can you do it? Who can realistically stop you from doing it?

And when you have that tour thing where someone is driving you around it allows that person to be more engaged. A typical thing like this would be in Malibu. People drive the highway along the coast in malibu and continually look at the landscape and beauty and homes around them (what was Palisades). This in Malibu is extremely dangerous as the traffic can come to an abrupt halt. (bruce jenner found this out the hard way). This is a scenic area that the driver will want to engage and view and converse as well. Now they can do that and are still in the driver's seat. so it makes for something more involved from the driver and the get together is more enjoyable.
