FSD in upstate South Carolina?

CantaloupePopular833 | 2026-03-03 16:04 | 9 views

I'm thinking of buying a Tesla, but the only person I know who has one says that FSD does not work in our area. I know the car needs certain hardware and software so it could just be their model or year. I live near Clemson, SC (rural area, midpoint between Charlotte and Atlanta). Tesla says FSD is available in the US region, but are there functionality limitations in rural areas? Would I be able to use FSD?

FSD literally works everywhere in the USA. Whoever told you this has no clue what they are talking about.

Only limit you may face are from 4g premium connection. Maps may not load full detail songs may not stream. Not sure why every tesla doesn't have a starlink mini option for premium service.

I am pretty sure that FSD will work everywhere in the US. It will work even without a cell signal or GPS. It won't be able to figure out where you are, or where you need to turn but it will keep safely driving anyways on the road you are on anyways.

FSD works everywhere but it may be that your friend just doesn't find the car drives the same way they do. It will not go 60 on a posted 30 dirt road and it definitely won't know all the back ways to get places. It drives like an out of town driver.

FSD literally works everywhere in the US (and Canada). Your friend most likely is referring to the overall quality of FSD? Perhaps they have a hardware 3 vehicle which isn’t as advanced and stable as HW4 Teslas. My only guess.

My dad lives near there too and has my old Model 3 with HW3 and it does work there, but it's not perfect. Are you getting HW4 or 3?

I'm leaning hw3 for affordability but am still early in my research. Is there a significant jump from 3 to 4?

I live not far from there outside of Saluda, NC. FSD works great up here, as well as between here and Atlanta. Even works on my .9 mile gravel driveway. I highly recommend.

Yes. Spend the $ for HW4.
