Dealer or private party sell?

ToughWorking07 | 2026-03-01 01:02 | 9 views

I’m a new parent, and think a minivan might be a better fit for my family. However, that means I need to get rid of my 2017 Model X - I’m the first and only owner. It has 98k miles on it, and the dealerships are offering between 16-17k for a trade in… My question is if I go through the private market, I could likely transfer my FSD, possibly my lifetime free supercharging, we also have a clear bra and a ceramic coat on the car. These would not transfer with a dealer purchase, and I feel like it’s a waste for someone to potentially use. Any advice?

Mini vans are not safe https://youtu.be/3TE9TTYKsdI?si=8_hQvrl7JV19Kt4k Model x is safer https://youtu.be/UJTY7ilwSq4?si=o1rfSXH2hzNTLSY- Tesla has some of the safest vehicles. I wouldn't recommend a minivan and I have 4 kids.

Go private. Seems like something I might even be interested in. DM if you’re open to chat.

I've never known lifetime free supercharging to be transferable to another car.  Stays with the same car (SC01) if it's doesn't vanish (SC05).  That may affect your decision making.

It’s nine years old. If you want any real value out of it you need to sell it yourself. Dealers are just going to offer auction value

Dang I wish you posted this a month ago, I might have made the drive for that! Regardless, sell privately. You could easily get $24k, possibly more. Yes the FSD stays with the car, but the free charging will only transfer if it's an early 2017 model. Look in the Tesla app "Specs & Warranty" page, it might say there.
