My FSD observations after a month of use

Balancedone_1 | 2026-02-28 02:15 | 73 views

1. HW4 and the newest update is really good, not perfect but still really good compared competitors. 2. The average person drives way too fast. 3. The average driver follows too closely, myself included. 4. FSD really shines in rush hour traffic, even though you are still paying attention it’s not as stressful. 5. So many drivers are distracted with their phones 🥲 6. It makes you a more aware driver because it’s always watching 😆

I was really not thinking I would trust it. After one or two trips I realized it’s safer than a human. I’ll probably use it 50/50.. traffic.. it’s driving. Any room to play.. warp speed😂

Balancedone_1 2026-02-28 03:17

lol at warp speed. I’m still getting use to that instant torque. It also took me a couple of trips to trust it as well. The system drives defensively and gives the right of way most of times. Arrival parking is when I take over depending on how crowded the lot is.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-28 03:30

The instant power is just crazy with the M3P. I can’t even imagine the Plaid. Yes, FSD is courteous. It let two cars in from a side street when I probably would have only let one. On the flip side. It doesn’t take any shit either. A car cut in front of me on the highway going slow. FSD immediately switched lanes and went around. Seeing it switch two lanes for the smoothest flow was impressive. It waits to get over for an exit longer than I would. But that’s actually because it can see farther ahead and knows it has time. I get nervous when it parks. But it’s been perfect. Backs in to super chargers with ease. Even parallel parked on the first try perfectly. I can’t parallel park to save my life and I’m 50.. lol.. my only gripe so far is that the car can’t find my house. Once it did but pulled up to the curb instead of my driveway. And once the nav was way off with me driving. I live next to a hwy and Google Maps and Waze have issues as well. But Tesla nav didn’t correct itself. I got all the way in my garage and it still thought I was two streets over. lol.. Nav issue though, not FSD.

Balancedone_1 2026-02-28 03:35

Same for me with the nav, it takes me to my neighbors house. 😂 Never thought about the last minute exits. With the further sight and satellite imagery it can see further than us.

dantodd 2026-02-28 03:54

I took it on a 8,000+ mile road trip over Christmas. I started in SF Bay Area and by Texas I trusted it completely to not hit vehicles and to stay in a lane. It sometimes has trouble picking a lane in merging or splitting situations and nav is "great" if you're a visitor in that it finds places but it has zero knowledge of how locals actually use the roads.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-28 03:57

I’m glad I’m single right now so nobody can hear me talking to FSD.. “You drive.. you know where you’re going” and “we gotta turn up here dude.. you gonna get over?” 😂 That Nav issue is pretty annoying. I’ve tried both typing in my home address and also dropping a pin when I’m in my garage and using that to set home. No dice. My car has no idea how to get to my house. lol

SubieSTI360 2026-02-28 04:08

I don’t know if I would road trip in my car. I’ve only had it a few days. But I’m chewing battery QUICK. Maybe if you put it in granny mode and babied it I could get 290 miles like I’m supposed to. But with it in an aggressive FSD mode and me driving combo. I bet it’s 180-200.. even planning your trip around chargers. I think it would be a hassle.

dantodd 2026-02-28 04:37

Just set it in standard mode and relax. But it's a great car for a 1,000 Mike road trip. 8,000 miles gets to be a hump

SubieSTI360 2026-02-28 04:54

Yes. It’s my first EV. I’ll tame my driving habits after a while. 😂

dantodd 2026-02-28 05:02

For around town it isn't important, You aren't going to burn a full battery around town and you can always wake up to a full battery

Lokon19 2026-02-28 05:15

As of now there are no competitors.....

SubieSTI360 2026-02-28 05:17

Oh for sure. Once I get my home charger I’m good.

Putrid-Box4866 2026-02-28 05:31

Exactly my thoughts. Like, which competitors? We desperately needs someone to compete with Tesla ffs. Otherwise, this isn’t good long term.

MikeARadio 2026-02-28 05:49

Compete with Tesla. They are so far ahead of everybody else that there’s nobody that could compete and be in the same range. These are cars that are not Geo fence that drive themselves and unlike what the OP said I feel they work perfectly. I never have to intervene. I haven’t had an intervene for so long except picking a parking spot sometimes.

StateFarmKab 2026-02-28 08:41

FSD tailgates IMO.

Balancedone_1 2026-02-28 14:29

I was trying not to be biased but you are right 🥹

ULTIMATE_DADBOD 2026-02-28 14:45

With the latest update, my model S now backs into my driveway, right up to my charger, just like I want it to. I can execute a 30 mile commute without touching the wheel at all now.

GreetingsFromAP 2026-02-28 15:18

Program your house in with the map and setting a pin

allaboutandroids 2026-02-28 16:26

At about 96-97% FSD, I will pretty much never get a vehicle that does not have it With the Model S and X being shutdown, I think I'll eventually upgrade my 3 to the Model Y Performance

stormblaz 2026-02-28 17:07

Tesla owns the Supercharger tech and set the legal official NA standard for NACS, everyone forward will have to use the adaptor for now, and later the standard which is already on new Evs. Tesla has and is owning the game forward. Competition sure, actual competition? Not really.

MostlyDeferential 2026-02-28 17:09

I love berating FSD(s) when it waits "longer" than I would to prep for an exit. I just let loose my back-seat driver since I'm usually singing and seat-dancing too. I still take over when parking diagonal though. FSD just can't seem to get it right. Basically, relax and let the flow of traffic be your guide. Fast driving means more stops, but less time on the road; YMMV. I like 65 on anything that's legal to travel, but FSD won't let me set it anymore so Standard just goes with the flow.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-28 17:27

Too funny about your singing and dancing. The stereo is so good in this car I’m rocking out or booming bass all the time. Let the car uber me. lol. I haven’t had issues parking yet but I’m definitely on high alert when it tries. So far it backed in to a super charger and parallel parked perfectly. I’m confident future updates will improve that as well.

Putrid-Box4866 2026-02-28 17:33

I don’t care about charging, that’s fine. When I say competition, I mean with FSD. It seems like nobody else is trying. I hope google or microsoft could come up with something they can license to everyone. I think they’re the only ones capable.

stormblaz 2026-02-28 17:46

Maybe, tesla is really protective and ahead of the game, Ford is starting to make their things, but....its soooo far behind i dont see it happening, they are using blackberry and ex apple devs etc.

Argyrus777 2026-02-28 17:51

I’m satisfied and any improvement is a bonus for me. I get off work, voice command home, buckle and press FSD. I don’t touch my steering wheel till I get home and it’s about to park in the streets. Still don’t trust it going into garage but I’m fine with that

Balancedone_1 2026-02-28 17:53

I have to try that!

jasonni1234 2026-02-28 18:50

It’s very nice to relax sometimes and let the car do the road rage

Inevitable_Ad_711 2026-02-28 19:28

My Ford has lane keep assist, stock from the factory.. no monthly subscription or worries about them suddenly taking it away.

Litig8or53 2026-02-28 19:38

Well, whoopdedo! It’s worth exactly what you didn’t pay for it. Try a Tesla and at least have some idea what you’re prattling about.

Litig8or53 2026-02-28 19:39

You’ll use it 97% eventually. Probably next week.

Lokon19 2026-02-28 19:40

That’s not the same thing as FSD it’s not even close to the same thing. That’s more equivalent to the old auto pilot.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-28 19:43

lol.. maybe after a few months. But if I have any room to play safely. I’m going zero to warp speed. People say you get used to it and it gets old. I don’t see that happening. I’m a speed freak and this thing is a friggin Rocket! 😂

Litig8or53 2026-02-28 20:25

Enjoy!

SubieSTI360 2026-02-28 20:34

Definitely!!! Really surprised at how nice the car is. Looks, speed, tech, stereo..

[deleted] 2026-02-28 22:33

It’s scary that you don’t pay attention while in full control of the wheel. That’s a you not me problem

Putrid-Box4866 2026-03-01 02:30

Blackberry and Apple devs who presumably worked on Siri? We’re fucked then.

stormblaz 2026-03-01 03:32

Yes I know because my friend is in Florida with a big team of 150+ devs software and hardware and are non stop working on the next fsd like system for their unreleased sub and truck that will come with it, but its miles behind and I think they are late to the game

Basic_Twist404 2026-03-01 06:52

Never going to happen. They are like a decade ahead. Why do you think all Evs decided just to use Tesla super charger network? To catch up is a loss cuz as they advance Tesla is doing the same but a head. That’s why Elon is the way he is. He said this years ago on cnn when Tesla first became a name.

ambro_ck 2026-03-01 07:00

BMW e Mercedes hanno alzato bandiera bianca qui in UE sul livello 3, ho apprezzato l’onestà intellettuale

vdek 2026-03-02 07:25

I had a MachE with Bluecruise, it’s not comparable to FSD at all.
