Is it worth it?

No_Tea_2867 | 2026-02-25 20:48 | 135 views

Says there is a clean title and it has LFP battery the car is 135k miles and listed for 13.9k is it worth it ? Says the battery hasn’t been changed and it’s not common since it’s LFP. I’m new to the EV community and I’m interested. Can anyone help me making the decision of buying.

For a 2022 standard range I don’t think it’s worth it. It’s at the point where everything in the suspension (specifically control arms) will need replacing which is VERY expensive, it’s not on hardware 4, and it’s just going to be a headache. If you have good credit I just got a 2024 model y long range with 22k miles for $34k financing. I personally wouldn’t just settle just to get in a Tesla even as tempting as it is.

MedicalEnthusiasm9 2026-02-25 21:42

Me looking at my LR Model 3 that has like 30k+ left to pay

Which-Return-607 2026-02-25 21:46

Look at comparisons and you can see if it’s worth it. It has obviously been used as a ride share vehicle and being dumped after warranty is gone for what it’s worth. I personally wouldn’t but not sure how strict your budget is

APHILLYATED111 2026-02-25 22:01

Get a new one with hardware 4

BuddyBing 2026-02-25 22:21

No, that was a ride share car and your money is better spent elsewhere.

anangrytaco 2026-02-25 22:27

Year 22 have a lot of issues.

ramsesny 2026-02-25 22:31

Uhhh, I own a 2022 and I haven’t had any issues. Mind you I don’t do car share or anything but yeah, other than that no issues.

Acceptable_Main_5911 2026-02-25 22:38

Seriously. Imagine buying the same car you have now at these prices. Wild deals for a new crowd.

Competitive_Guava_33 2026-02-25 22:42

It's an Uber thats been dumped. If driving around in a worn out Uber sounds fun go for it

Glum_Perception_1077 2026-02-25 22:43

Ppl have driven into the 300 and 400,000 miles. I purchased a high mileage one for work for cheap, so I'd say go for it.

No_Tea_2867 2026-02-25 22:44

What was your mileage on it when you first bought and how was the suspension when you got it ?

MedicalEnthusiasm9 2026-02-25 22:50

I can't, it hurts. Yeah I got 2.5% financing in Oct of 2022. But, the car was like 66k after taxes. You couldnt even configure one to buy it from Tesla. "Wow what luck, this dealership has one with just 3k miles on it" -Mr. Hindsight regret thought. Midlife crisis had me by the throat.

Glum_Perception_1077 2026-02-25 22:52

I think 114,000 everything is fine on it, its in good condition, the only thing it needs is tires, but thata normal due to my mostly driving job.

AmbassadorEither7033 2026-02-25 22:57

Send me the link so I can get it. And I am serious.

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-25 23:01

Front control arms are easy to replace and you can find them for cheap.

Professional_Day5412 2026-02-25 23:05

For all control arms, links and springs you’re looking at over $4000, happened on my 2020 M3 LR at 85k miles, sold it after replacing the front uppers then upgraded to a model Y

Professional_Day5412 2026-02-25 23:07

Also most people including me don’t have a full lift to do the work yourself and most shops won’t let you bring your own parts and they do the work and control arms are very labor intensive it’s not the parts it’s the actual labor that costs so much

Snow_Crab-Party 2026-02-25 23:09

It’s tempting if having HW4 is not important to you, If you do get this one be prepared for costly repairs. AC unit/ suspension etc. You’ll also be out of warranty if the battery/ motors fail. It can run for many more miles. It all depends on what you’re looking for.

LongjumpingDish2956 2026-02-25 23:17

Is it just this year or are these cars not cars that ca actually go high mileage without super expensive repairs?

Snow_Crab-Party 2026-02-25 23:25

There’s some people in the model 3 sub have ran their for 200K+ miles without any expensive repairs. 2021 was bad year because of the supply chain shortages, but I haven’t anything about 2022 builds being particularly bad.

Rock_81 2026-02-25 23:40

What are they? When am I expected to see them?

nikedemon 2026-02-25 23:40

I heard they were pretty reliable. 2021’s are the ones with the problems

Frosty-Objective-270 2026-02-25 23:44

I heard 2021's are more reliable than 2022's.

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-25 23:47

Idk what you’re talking about cause all you need is a standard car jack, some socket wrenches, and torque wrench. Took me 3 hours to replace all the control arms just following the Tesla service manual. Parts cost me $110 and saved me a fortune. I’m just your average joe so really anyone can do it if they’re motivated and understand directions. That said, I don’t know about springs. I can imagine that would be more difficult to replace.

I-Take-Dumps-At-Home 2026-02-25 23:49

I would totally buy that as long as the battery doesn’t show any major degradation. I’d be willing to bet that it doesn’t.

Dense_Aioli_342 2026-02-25 23:55

Damn, that range has to be in the 160-170 miles max. If it’s a commuter then I’d do it but I’d expect to fix the suspension soon which will set you back maybe 2,500-4000$

LongjumpingDish2956 2026-02-26 00:04

Why do you think this would have costly repairs then?

IllustriousPlenty 2026-02-26 00:13

got a 2022 performance off carvan with 5k miles for $30k

casino_r0yale 2026-02-26 00:18

14k is a bit much for a worn out Uber mule but you do you

titoblood 2026-02-26 00:19

I have a 2022 M3P I bought new. Over 230,000 miles. No mechanical issues. No suspension issues.

CL1122 2026-02-26 00:24

I have a 22 with over 100k miles, they aight.

AppleZen36 2026-02-26 00:43

Yes

No_Tea_2867 2026-02-26 00:44

Why are there so many bad reviews about what I posted

FitAgency8925 2026-02-26 01:21

Same price... 63k$.

FieryFiya 2026-02-26 01:21

Haven’t had any issues with my 2022 M3. I think you might be thinking of the ‘22 MY or MX… I forget which one had the suspension issues.

amc370z 2026-02-26 01:24

Yep, depending on how much you drive, the car will pay for itself in gas savings over 4-5 years. It should last that long. 13k is a steal. Mileage doesn't matter other than warranty. But get suspension/arms checked. Wheels as well

Clu_Rebooted 2026-02-26 01:30

That’s a lot of miles with no warranty but at least it has the AMD chip

fattybeagle 2026-02-26 01:30

for the price it’s not bad i’ve seen those go for around $15-16k where i am with around the same mileage. i’d have someone good with teslas take a look at it before purchase.

Pbook7777 2026-02-26 01:38

Go for it, worst case it implodes and you only lose a few k to salvage value . More likely you drive it for 5 years and it’s one of the bigger steals of your life.

wdskuk 2026-02-26 01:54

That’s a lot of miles for a 22. It’s a standard too. I will pass if I were you. Save a bit more and get a duel motor. My 18 Performance has 22k. But it is my garage queen lol.

Wobinator3438 2026-02-26 02:03

66k for what options?? I also have a 22’ LR and got it for $52k after taxes in California, free white paint and black seats at the time. I’m assuming maybe you’re in Canada?

jeffbannard 2026-02-26 02:03

What issues? I have had zero issues with my 2022 M3 SR+ RWD. Speak up with deets please.

MedicalEnthusiasm9 2026-02-26 02:08

It wasn't an option to build my spec at the time, sticker at the dealership(non tesla) was like 59k. I had 2k rollover from a different car. So the all in was more like 64k.

Edward_Hamburgler 2026-02-26 02:17

No way. Battery warranty is gone and these die all the time with this mileage. Greater than 50% chance this battery will fail around 150k miles or sooner. Hard pass

kdineshnetworks 2026-02-26 02:37

I wont buy used tesla , try lease , if u like it buy new one . Note: highest depreciation cars are EV.

PresentationSome2427 2026-02-26 02:40

I wouldn't touch a Tesla that's not HW4

6neral 2026-02-26 02:46

Wasn’t the last battery warranty at 120k?

CarbonKLR 2026-02-26 03:08

Same battery? What range do you show at 100 percent?

PrestigiousShift134 2026-02-26 03:08

Make sure its not an Intel Shitbox

menntu 2026-02-26 03:11

It’s Reddit. Opinions fly harder than a pack of crazed pigeons. My take: the cost is so low that you are most likely going to pull good value out of the purchase.

Insaniaksin 2026-02-26 03:12

Thinking about buying one of these for my kids for his first car in a few years because of how insanely low priced they are. Model Y or 3 are definitely in the running for that at these prices.

TengokuIkari 2026-02-26 03:18

I have a 2022 rwd with LFP batteries. 80k miles and no issues so far. My goal is to hit 500k miles on it. This looks like a great price but check the suspension just to be safe.

stocktradamus 2026-02-26 03:45

All in price after taxes, fees, etc was $54K back in the summer of 2021 for my M3LR 😬. Only silver lining was the interest rate

wesblog 2026-02-26 03:52

I got a similar 2022 RWD with 138k miles for $11.5k last month. It had a lot of cosmetic issues. But I spent around $500 to repair or replace the problems and now it is a great car. Battery tested at 92%

PapaEchoLincoln 2026-02-26 03:55

Sounds like an LFP. Nice

YaboiiJJay 2026-02-26 04:19

I’d buy that

No_Tea_2867 2026-02-26 04:20

How would you go about the battery situation knowing it’s over 120k

YaboiiJJay 2026-02-26 04:23

I personally wouldn’t mind paying 8k for a new battery, but that’s just me. Maybe because I like the car.

No_Tea_2867 2026-02-26 04:27

Would you go to a 3rd party for batter replacement

AdOk4386 2026-02-26 04:31

Looks good

YaboiiJJay 2026-02-26 04:32

I’ve heard many cases where third party battery replacements failed within weeks or even days. It’s safer to go through Tesla, where the work is backed by a warranty.

No_Tea_2867 2026-02-26 04:36

Makes sense thanks

haron_elfet 2026-02-26 04:44

For $1-2k more you can get one with under 120k miles and have peace of mind for the battery. I have an ex-Hertz car 2022 LR with 85k and it has some cosmetic issues but has been very reliable.

YaboiiJJay 2026-02-26 04:47

You could try negotiating a bit further with the buyer. No problem.

JokeIntelligent7802 2026-02-26 04:52

City driving is totally fine!

JefreyA-01 2026-02-26 05:06

i’d say it’d last another 100k miles before giving you any battery issues

smackmybeaver 2026-02-26 06:25

lol. No it’s value for those that wait.

First-Composer-3954 2026-02-26 07:30

Just move away from Tesla.

little_nipas 2026-02-26 07:34

This right here is why I’m so glad to have got my 2022 model 3 LR for $17k 3 years ago as a Hertz Rental in its previous life. I’ll take the extra 100k miles to save the money. Even if I have the buy a new battery and suspension… still cheeper than buying a whole new car. Hertz paid $58k for my car before taxes.

ZealousidealDraw4075 2026-02-26 08:58

That is amazingly cheap

Global-Barracuda9798 2026-02-26 10:28

Heck yes

sobersuburbanmom 2026-02-26 11:42

Dammmnnnn for a model 3? I got my 2023 m3 RWD for $35k off the lot, plus a 7.5k tax incentive. My condolences. But I bet you got a really cool, fast one and I bet it was worth it at the time.

sobersuburbanmom 2026-02-26 11:44

I would avoid getting a performance and ensure that you fully understand the parental controls. These cars can be way too fun and the idea of a kid driving one without the parental controls is scary. They have a ton of safety features though that can’t really be beat for used prices rn.

tacovivaa 2026-02-26 12:09

Check with an insurance agent first to see how much more it will go up. Might be eye opening.

moistmonsterman 2026-02-26 12:47

Not right now, no. Wait until the end of this year to buy a used EV if you can. Nearly 500K used EV's are gonna hit the market this year coming fresh off leases. Specifically 2023 models.

MedicalEnthusiasm9 2026-02-26 13:30

Correct. At that time model Y was closer to 75k. Got me feeling like an old man talking about the 'Ole Days'.

Noel_Leon_M 2026-02-26 14:18

Don’t feel bad. I have 4.5% financing, paid $7500 down, and still upside down by $5000 because of how fast my model 3 LR depreciated. All of that was on excellent credit and what makes it sting worse….they started offering the 0% deals just a month after I purchased.

TeslaCrna 2026-02-26 14:42

$66k for a model 3?! ![gif](giphy|KFt2DA9T82paOA1Yci)

gtg465x2 2026-02-26 15:50

If you’re going to buy a cheap used Tesla with a lot of miles, one with an LFP battery is the way to go IMO. The LFP batteries are the most reliable and have very little degradation compared to other battery types. It’s very easy to find posts about NCA/NMC batteries dying or having terrible degradation, sometimes with low miles even, but it’s impossible to find posts about an LFP battery dying or having a lot of degradation, even after they have been out for 4-5 years now, so some are getting up there in mileage.

blueova23 2026-02-26 18:17

“Let me work it, put your thang down flip it and reverse it!” ![gif](giphy|KZqawCvjeqFTTKcZ7O)

TheLemmonade 2026-02-26 19:32

I mean it’s going to be as good as any 13k car. It’s bound to be fucky though. I’m talking worn out, minor gremlins, rattles, shitty interior condition…. They don’t hold up. Here’s the thing: generally speaking any car that’s $13k is going to be slightly fucky. all of the cars that aren’t fucky aren’t 13k Will we take it? Yea why not. Run it!

RxZ81 2026-02-26 23:19

I almost bought a used Model 3 about a year ago. Insurance rate was almost double every other car I was interested in. I ended up not getting the Tesla just because of that. >$4,000/year for 4 drivers. Several other cars I asked my agent to run were in the $2k range. I gambled that over the next 4-5 years I would not have over $2k per year in maintenance on the car we got (Subaru Outback).

accordfreak 2026-02-27 07:53

I was waiting for a price crash after the federal credit incentives disappeared. Patience pays... got a copart 2025 m3 lr for 14k. 18.8k after taxes/fees and airbag/seatbelt replacements

Defiant-Opposite-501 2026-02-27 09:10

I picked up a 23 with 95k miles 6 months ago for $14.9. One year older and 40k more miles I'd expect a deeper discount. Maybe around 12k.

IAmL5 2026-02-27 17:10

That's a lot of miles

No_Tea_2867 2026-02-27 17:32

What exactly did you have to get repaired

wesblog 2026-02-27 22:20

Replaced the steering wheel ($140) Replaced the drivers side interior door panel ($90) Replaced the front left repeater camera ($80) Replaced the front right headlight ($120) Replaced front driver seat cushion ($100)

qiltb 2026-02-28 00:14

Man, don't show the IMEI nor WiFi MAC no matter if you decide to buy it or not. It's way worse than sharing VIN...

tvax11 2026-02-28 02:25

100% this, insurance for even older driver with no claims nearly doubled from under $1100 to over $1800 plus the near tripled annual vehicle registration in Maryland are all needing to be considered in the ownership

UnluckyNeat5855 2026-02-28 02:37

Yeah same! They ordered me 23k trade in roughly I think, but I still owe two years lease

Markos8 2026-02-28 05:05

Where on earth did you find the parts that inexpensively(is that a word?)?

wesblog 2026-02-28 11:27

eBay. Most of them were salvaged off other m3 and my. Fortunately a lot of the parts are interchangeable.

BigAssMonkey 2026-03-01 04:32

My man…..you know how to get your money’s worth. Good for you.

BigAssMonkey 2026-03-01 04:41

This is great info.
