Lease vs Buy CT!

pradyots | 2026-02-25 17:56 | 9 views

Im still planning to buy the cheaper Cybertruck but wifey says just lease it. We already have MY as a daily and she isn't convinced she will drive CT a lot. Tesla website shows $997/mo for 36 months at $0 down for 10k miles. I'm so torn between buying vs leasing but leaning towards leasing because im worried about the resale of these trucks in 3 years from now. Has anyone leased it? what yall think?

Can you give me a valid reason as to why you need a cybertruck? Emphasis on the NEED not want but need.

this\^ Just because they released a more affordable CT, doesn't mean you need to be coughing up $1k a month to look cool. Buying it for fun? ok, pay cash. no reason to make a impulsive purchase like OP is describing.

I don't.. i really dont need the car. But i like the car. There is no logical reason to get it, maybe that's why lease might be better. It's purely a want thing not a need thing

If you already willing to spend $36k for the truck lease, with limiting mileage, just buy the $59k. Easy $23k extra to own a truck that is useful long term.

Than no, don't get it at all. If you are in a financial position in which you need to question if you can afford it and thinking of the resale value, you shouldn't be buying it just for funsies. If you happen to also NEED another car and can afford it, I'd say there's a bit more reason to go for it. But from what im reading you don't need another car, so if I interpreted it correctly, don't buy this car at all and save that money. Cars are a depreciating asset, remember that.

That’s even better. Means you got the money, lease and do the buy out in 3 years if the value is still good.

Lease it and then buy it out, you’ll pay a little more in the end, but really not much, you can then finance the balance if needed in 3 years. There should be calculators out there to assist, this is assuming the lease deal is better than whatever they are offering today. I ran this on my model 3 and decided to lease versus buy, I also want a CT and plan to get one at the end of my lease. If the lease interest (money factor) is better than the finance rate then I’ll lease and buy out at the end. It’s also nice to have options.

Just want to throw this out there. I lease a M3 and monitor the leases of all models regularly. Even with the price reduction of the CT, the lease factor and monthly payments didnt really change by all that much. A few dollars if that. It is more beneficial to buy it with price reduction. But imo, I would lease it for the exact reason you mentioned...

For me the whole point of driving a tesla is to use FSD and go on road trips and just go for drives. I dont want to have a mileage limit on a car i planning using a ton. The lease payments are enticing but im easily gonna go over 10K miles a year.

i leased a 26 AWD CT because i have never leased before and i like the idea of getting a new vehicle every 2 years. This time it was cheaper to lease, plus i was able to transfer over my fsd. i wanted a beast but when i ordered there was no ETA on them so i got on the AWD. im paying less than i was on my 2022 m3p!!

What's the residual?

Historical-Bug-7536 2026-02-25 21:21

People are so bad at math. Like they just can't get past the monthly payment.

2026 CT AWD - Just picked it up a few days ago. I chose to lease because the money factor was equivalent to like a 3% APR. You can always buy it outright at the end or finance it if you really want to keep it. I imagine I'll want something else/car won't be worth its residual in three years.

pradyots 2026-02-26 00:06

0 down? What's your payment like

Apart-Telephone4870 2026-02-26 00:12

0 down technically but of course, I had to pay taxes, title & first month's payment at delivery. My total due at signing was $3800ish. Monthly payment is 1050.

Apart-Telephone4870 2026-02-26 00:14

0 down. 3800ish due at signing (taxes, fees, & first month's payment). 1050/month, 3 year/36k mile lease.

TheMadolche 2026-02-26 06:18

Why are you looking at a payment? If you lease it you don't own it. Leading is rarely a good idea as you'll not own it. however, if you're gonna. Do the buy out. Then do whatever...If you don't buy it out though it's wasted.
