So, what you’re saying is that you want a, um, Smart ASS?

Interesting. I have a MSP HW3 and it seems to be okay 9/10 uses. The one time it either jitters or takes an unusual or long pathway.

It's a gimmick. Most owners (FSD) don't use it

True but if perfected with banish as well it has the potential of being a serious unique feature

As much as I'd like to see proper Smart Summon (as well as Banish), I'm content for priority to be placed on FSD right now. Eventually, Summon and Banish can just be an extension of that.
After the first few trials, I stopped using Summon because it presents more issues (and embarrassment) than it's worth. However, I did use it a few days ago at Walmart. It was pouring rain and the lot was (uncharacteristically) not busy. It saved me a good soaking, so I guess that was the rare circumstance under which it was actually useful.

I definitely feel anyway that it is so much worse than 6 months ago.
Just tried it now, it fully didn't follow the road and was driving on the parkings spots and faced a wall 🤦🏼♂️

I remember banish being rumored as “coming any day now” after I picked up my car in ‘22. At this point, I just assume any feature that hasn’t already arrived on HW3-4 will require HW5-6.

In all honesty, Smart Summon sounds neat- but it takes longer to get the car safely to you than it’s worth. I’ve used it 4 times and each time I kept asking myself “why didn’t you just walk?”

Last time I used it the car went further out in parking lot. Got out of range and stopped. Had to walk twice as far

Again, like everything- it’s not perfect.
There’s also a reason I personally won’t subscribe to FSD at the current price, it’s wildly overpriced.

Hate how accurate this likely is, can’t disagree.

the only thing I've ever used it as was a party trick showing friends.. other than that it's useless in its current form.

My guess would be once the robotaxi branch is merged back into the main FSD branch.

So, you're asking for, say, 400 degree view? LOL

I only use it when it's pouring rain and I don't have an umbrella with me because it wasn't raining when I parked the cark (and left my umbrella stowed in the under-trunk).

In many fail videos cars hitting pillars and others cars. Maybe cameras at bumper level. The higher cameras can be blinded by the sun, etc. there’s no ultrasound sensors.

They've added front bumper cameras that the older cars don't have. I haven't seen the videos, but other than the front bumper camera (and I'm not sure about that), I doubt more cameras -- or ultrasound sensors -- are the answer. Human eyes are at about the same level as the B-pillar cameras, the repeater and rear cameras are lower, and the front camera(s) are a bit higher. And it appears the switch to direct camera photon count processing rather than camera DSP output has addressed the sun blinding problem (probably better than human eyes). If the accidents happened due to bright sunlight, it was probably with older FSD software.

Walk towards the car as it comes to you and it’s faster than using only summon or only walking

Not really. I work late, and have a very very dark sketch parking lot around the corner from the door to the office. When summon works, which is random and not that often, it has been an amazing safety feature that allows me to stand on the well lit porch of my office, and have the car drive from the lot to me. It is fully a safety thing for many people (women I am guessing think this is important since lonely parking lots are a legit concern, esp at night) if you have the situation.

I use the old-school Summon to make minor parking adjustments every now and then after I get out — like nosing in a little closer to the curb. It’s quick and helpful.
The current Smart Summon, even with its improvements, feels more like a try-it-once-and-done party trick. It’s been too embarrassing with the hesitations to attempt in an active parking lot, especially when it shuts down and then you’re left scrambling.
I am, however, really looking forward to the bigger concept of my car dropping me off at the airport and heading home — then picking me up a week later when I’m scheduled to arrive. I have an HW3 Model S, so that will have to wait for a future purchase.
It also made me realize how much I loathe the feeling of extortion from the pay-to-park industry around airports.

Certainly a fantastic use case for it. If it was just more reliable in execution.
Every time I’ve done a demo for family or friend it didn’t make it. Very anti-climactic demos.

I was so happy about it recently when it worked twice in a row, then I was standing there in the dark and rain and it just wouldn't move much at all. Such a bummer. Kinda need the reliability

Just give me back my Dumb Summon. I used to be able to move my M3 w/ HW3 in and out of the garage with my key fob alone. After an update last year, I'm forced to use my phone and it is shittier than ever!!
