Slowly then all at once
Yes. The devices on the roof are LIDAR units that help the car scan and map its surroundings in 3D, and also autonomous driving.
No, this is for robotaxi pre mapping
No escaping from geofenced areas for any self driving?
Has nothing to do with people who have FSD on their cars. You can use FSD pretty much anywhere.
And here I thought Elon said that they never needed LiDAR.
Not FSD, it’s validating for Robotaxi
I do, it's supervised, but I really enjoy it, even on HW3. The hope was that HW4 would allow unsupervised driving. One step at a time I guess. Any expectations how many steps are there for the truly unsupervised? Further hardware update?
That’s been an unreasonable expectation got quite some time. It’s a great product, impressive how well it functions, just not that product.
It’s for mapping, building spatial database. Not navigating the vehicle. Also, Musk primary issue was with the wavelength most use. As always you need to read him closely. It is like sifting through elephant, dung for peanuts, but there are peanuts in there.
There's no lidar on those cars, only additional cameras.
Everyone outside of Tesla believes LiDAR/radar is needed especially with weather in places like Chicago. They’ll have to update their cars with all new hardware most likely to get there.
So robotaxi's coming to Chicago?
Yes, probably a low traveled area, Tesla filling in the gaps
Why not?
Robotaxi
lol they’ll be training until 2035
It’s not training. It’s validation with extra cameras. Probably to read the street signs.
