Tesla FSD demo in The Netherlands

Dweffel | 2026-02-17 15:56 | 146 views

FSD demo done in Groningen, The Netherlands. With Tesla employee behind the wheel. Seems to be matching the rumors of FSD soon to be available in Europe with Netherlands as a start after approval from RDW (Dutch entity that approves this stuff for Europe).

This is easy mode still. I want to see how it copes going through ex. Amsterdam on a busy summer day with 2 million bicycles (and scooters) zooming by in the bicycle lane as you try to turn right across one. Probably the worst thing I’ve had to do as a driver (albeit in a manual 2.0 diesel Mondeo). That and Paris, but car chaos < bicycle chaos IMO.

Awkward_Nectarine_51 2026-02-17 21:38

Impressive!

eriky 2026-02-17 21:51

So let's say it can't handle that (it probably can!) then it's still extremely useful for all those people driving the same boring highway route to and from work each day. I'd pay for this if it means I can use those two hours to nap or read or do some work.

jvdmeij 2026-02-17 21:59

Have you seen the Amsterdam fsd video on YouTube yet?

Busy-Key7489 2026-02-17 22:00

My HW 3 would have panicked at the first roundabout ;) (Ik ben toch wel heel benieuwd of HW3 gebruikers iets gaan merken van deze ontwikkeling in Nederland) I'm very curious if this will actually have an impact on current HW3 users in the Netherlands!

Affectionate-Loss926 2026-02-17 22:05

I hope it so much. Hw3 + fsd in the US is still so much better than autopilot we currently have in the Netherlands. But I have my doubts if we will ever see it for hw3 :(

Classic-Gear-3533 2026-02-17 22:25

Mine has grown a habit of not respecting bike lanes and drifting across them sometimes. I suppose if there were a cyclist there it might actually respect the lane for once hehe

HW4 Traffic aware cruise control doesn’t even understand the speed limits of a lot of local streets in The Hague’s area, so I am curious to see real world. It works ok-ish on the highway (although I have been noticing more phantom braking recently). Still a huge investment (€7500) that will unlikely be worth it for most people, unless they change the pricing model. Hope they use real evidence and data in the RDW approval process, and not the usual corruption and traffic of influence.

I’m doubtful based purely on FSD in Australia, the first RHD rollout, where FSD (Supervised) is not available for HW3 (but you can still purchase the old FSD which is just EAP + stopping at lights and signs).

MisterBumpingston 2026-02-18 00:27

FSD (Supervised) won’t let you do all those things.

ggfb20 2026-02-18 00:32

The FSD was below the speed limit for all but the last 5 seconds on the freeway.

dragonovus 2026-02-18 00:46

Nice one! Glad to see it in Europe. After it parked itself and wanted to go out it was way too close to that parked car though

Matt_NZ 2026-02-18 04:18

Was it FSD v14? Oceania is stuck on v13 since its release at the end of last year...

TerryBirch 2026-02-18 07:08

There have been FSD demos all over Europe. We had these in Finland too lately and it worked surprisingly well even with snow and very small roads with almost zero upkeep. Many different Finnish car Youtubers tried it out and as far as I know there wasn't any major problems. There were some situations where driver had to take control but no critical safety issues. I wouldn't be surprised if FSD (supervised) is allowed in Europe 2026/2027.

icy1007 2026-02-18 09:09

It was driving fine.

icy1007 2026-02-18 09:09

It’ll do fine there too.

icy1007 2026-02-18 09:10

You can, but you have to trick it into thinking you’re supervising it.

icy1007 2026-02-18 09:10

HW4 doesn’t have its own TACC. Tesla hasn’t updated TACC for a few years.

icy1007 2026-02-18 09:11

Yes, this was v14. You can tell based on the UI on the screen.

SphaeroX 2026-02-18 09:39

Given all the promises Elon Musk has made and the failure to deliver on them at Tesla, I would never trust my car journey to FSD, let alone consider buying a Tesla myself.

beerissweety 2026-02-18 10:10

When will it be rolled out for everyone in The Netherlands ?

timbnl 2026-02-18 10:13

Aaah, Groningen! Hope for FSD to be enabled soon, just got my first Tesla a few days ago and I'm in awe with what it can do.

Matt_NZ 2026-02-18 11:12

My bad, I didn't notice OP had posted a video until I opened it on my phone (autoplay is disabled on my PC) I do wonder if they'll delay the release until FSD Lite is ready for HW3 cars. I imagine the bitching will be 10-fold in Europe compared to Oceania if they also only release it for HW4 cars.

The_DMT 2026-02-18 12:51

I guess it definitely can handle that. Purely based on what i've seen how it perform on asian streets that are more chaos in my opinion.

Houtduifje 2026-02-18 15:55

We have done FSD 18-02-2026 (Today) in Tilburg at 12:00, and it was pretty busy like you can expect. Went to the city center with people on bicycles, people crossing the road randomly, road works, normal crosswalks, narrow streets and tight corners, roads without striping, turbo roundabouts, quick lane shifts after traffic lights, and all things you would expect in a busy Dutch city. To be honest it did everything perfectly, didn't feel too slow, also not too fast, just a nice pace, kept distance and anticipated on things i probably wouldn't have seen until the very last second. Really impressed by what they have achieved, this was in a M3 highland.

eriky 2026-02-18 16:24

Well Tesla sold me a car with full self driving capability two years ago, so that's still what I'm expecting to get eventually.

realfire23 2026-02-18 22:16

next year ! I promise

RicMedio 2026-02-18 23:18

What does FSD have to do with your autopilot? It's a completely different system. FSD drives much like you do. So if you can maintain your speed based on your surroundings, FSD can too. Why don't people understand that FSD is completely different from the 8-year-old European autopilot?

RicMedio 2026-02-18 23:22

Why are you here?

SphaeroX 2026-02-18 23:38

That's how reddit works

lotzik 2026-02-19 07:37

Let's now see how it gives priority to the fietsers.

Substantial-Bid3595 2026-02-19 20:16

Yeah that sounds like dutch driving

Palliewallie 2026-02-25 19:32

tinusxxl 2026-03-05 07:42

Would they push the subscription model to HW3 vehicles, or at least a trial? 7.5k is quite steep for me lol
