Need help identifying license plate (some one dinged my door)

Simple_Imagination_3 | 2026-02-16 19:19 | 89 views

Hi y’all. Someone dinged my door last night and left. I’m currently traveling and will check out the damage in a week when I come back. The sentry footage luckily got their license plate but it’s a bit blurry. Can someone help me identifying the number? Thanks a bunch!

Just a guess - 9BDE528

Lirfen 2026-02-16 20:00

9B??528 I think it’s DR in the middle but the letters are oddly tilted. I would go around the parking lot when you come back and see if you can find that car. Edit : or DP?

Impressive-Revenue94 2026-02-16 20:04

A fellow Tesla too. Fucking shameful. Go get him.

Corey415 2026-02-16 20:11

When you get back, upload it directly from the flash drive. It should be higher quality and hopefully you will be able to decipher the plate.

daniel-silva 2026-02-16 20:16

Corey415 2026-02-16 20:17

Looked up some suggested plate permutations. Thanks to u/Adorable-Boat8632 for suggesting the QP permutation 9BDE528 - no result 9BDR528 - 2014 KIA Forte 9BDP528 - 2013 Dodge Ram Cargo Van 9BQP528 - 2022 Model 3

Simple_Imagination_3 2026-02-16 20:18

I think you found it. Thank you so much. I hope no damage on my car but it there was I have everything to file a claim

HipHopGrandpa 2026-02-16 20:19

California plate 9BDE528 That’s my guess.

Simple_Imagination_3 2026-02-16 20:19

Someone here found it - 9BQP528, Tesla model 3

That’s it!! [2022 Model 3](https://imgur.com/a/Eev9Y7M)

Thank you all. Hopefully no damage when I get back but if there was- I’m going to do everything I can to get them. I only got my car for 3 months and within the first week someone dinged my car - it was 200 for a pdr to fix it. I’m not going to let it slide this time.

Grok says 9B0DP5328 When called out on being too many characters that came up with: 9BOD528 I don’t think it’s correct for a couple of the middle characters but you shouldn’t need to be exact when bringing to the police, at least if they care about following up

daniel-silva 2026-02-16 20:27

Good luck!

ashyee 2026-02-16 20:40

Can you post the video?

diezel_dave 2026-02-16 20:42

Q! That's what the weird short "D" is. Good eye!

Difficult_Half_9049 2026-02-16 20:59

Hope it works out for you. Quick question — if someone dinged my car, what are the real benefits of getting their plate? Does it materially help with recovery or insurance?

rsg1234 2026-02-16 21:11

You don’t have to pay your deductible

Difficult_Half_9049 2026-02-16 21:39

Thanks. Wouldn’t be like $50/ding? Why would you run it through insurance? Dumb questions but trying to understand for the inevitable time I need to

rsg1234 2026-02-16 21:54

Yeah for minor dings I would not do that. Even if their insurance pays out it will be a mark on your insurance record.

“Hey I just hit a car that I know firsthand comes pre installed with a dashcam that can record at all times… I’m gonna leave the scene”

ContestRemarkable356 2026-02-16 22:51

Tbh I’d contact the non-emergency police line now & submit this. Let them know you’re out of town, but this is effectively a hit & run. Your insurance will need a police report before they can do anything, and may question why you waited if you had this evidence. Sorry you’re going through this, it sucks & double-sucks bc it was two teslas. The other driver should’ve known better, but now they need to pay for the consequences of their actions.

Impressive-Revenue94 2026-02-16 22:59

OP, i just found your guy.

Simple_Imagination_3 2026-02-16 23:26

thank you for the advice. I just contact our sheriff department and looks like they don’t do phone report. I will need to go in person when I get back next week.

ContestRemarkable356 2026-02-16 23:53

Maybe contact your insurance then to let them know? Or at the very least document that you attempted to make a police report? Are you going to try & settle this with them at all? Personally I’d be pissed someone hit & run my car and I’d want the cops to charge them, plus let my insurance go after them to recover every penny you have to spend

Simple_Imagination_3 2026-02-17 00:14

I want to do exactly what you mentioned- have their insurance pay for all the repair cost. I don’t think I want to settle with them. I will contact my insurance tomorrow and see what they can do!

lancelen 2026-02-17 00:45

lol 40 thumbs down already

ContestRemarkable356 2026-02-17 01:56

Ok yeah then def get your insurance involved sooner rather than later. Idk if you’ve dealt with anything like this before, but the way it works is you’ll pay your deductible so your insurance company pays to have your vehicle repaired. Then your insurance will go after them to recover all of the money they spent repairing your vehicle, tracking them down, etc., you might even get your deductible back (ask them about this when you call) The fact that you have them hitting you on video, with their license plate, means that their insurance won’t bother trying to deny responsibility/argue that their driver wasn’t 100% at fault. You might need to take their driver to small claims to get your deductible back, but hopefully they realize how massively they messed up & don’t try to fight you over it. TLDR: You pay your deductible, get your car fixed right away, and sit back & watch as your insurance goes after them to recover what they spent to fix your vehicle (Bonus content if the cops have to go arrest them & they make it onto the local news!)

Simple_Imagination_3 2026-02-17 02:01

Thank you champ so much for the details. I will be in contact with my insurance soon and hopefully maybe no damage when I get back and check next week! I guess the good thing is they didn’t full on slam the door it was more like a push….
