Lock for adapter-mobile connector

Muted-Disk4649 | 2026-02-16 00:38 | 16 views

Some scum bag in my apartment unplugged and stole the NEMA adapters from my and another Tesla. Is there a way to keep this secure to the mobile connector?

Identify them from sentry footage

Didn’t have sentry on and likely can’t keep it on. Hence looking for alternatives apart from changing apartments

An alternative to have sentry mode on? The car literally comes with 360 cameras to catch anything, and you decided to not use it. The alternative is to turn it on. Leaving sentry off while plugged in gives 0 benefit besides saving a few dollars a year You don’t need to leave it on forever, just leave it on until the scumbag does it again, because he will

Thats what I’m gonna do. Currently, have a long commute with lack of charging options except supercharging on weekends and trickle charging weekdays.

Well mine won’t come off so there’s that. I assume it’s like welded together or something.

Muted-Disk4649 2026-02-16 02:32

Non Tesla?

sxegti 2026-02-16 02:39

Yeah makes sense. Could 3d print some kind of enclosure with a pad lock or something similar

Tesla.

MisterWigglie 2026-02-16 03:21

Hope you catch the culprit

Then you have the old corded mobile connector right?

AltruisticPapaya1415 2026-02-16 04:00

I would just buy a level 1 only so that it doesn’t come out at all. Worst someone can do is unplug it from the wall. With the Karen Lock, they won’t even be able to remove it from the car.

Hey now there’s an idea. Chastity cage for your Tesla Mobile Charger.

XExtremeTechnologyX 2026-02-16 05:34

I bought this last year. You drill out 2 holes on the side to loop a lock through it. [https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09FXK2TR3](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09FXK2TR3)

Late_Description3001 2026-02-16 13:01

I wouldn’t consider it old. I bought it 6 months ago. But yes.

AltruisticPapaya1415 2026-02-16 13:34

Then no, the corded mobile connector was only sold in like 2016 and was capable of doing 40 amps with a non changeable NEMA 14-50 plug.

Late_Description3001 2026-02-16 13:50

Gotcha no mine is supposed to come off, but it does not. When I say welded together I don’t mean like by the manufacturer. lol

I have done this while traveling a few times….. Loop the wall extension cord around so it lines up with the charging cable; kinda like a “cable” u-turn around the charger. Then get two hunks of board about the size of a bible. Run the two cords between the boards. Then place the charger where it will be under the car and drive the rear drivers side tire over the to boards. It creates some rain shelter for your charger and makes mischief inconvenient for the bad guy. Basically, the weight of the car is acting like a lock. Not perfect, but isn’t cheap, portable, and about as effective as the other suggestions.

You probably have what I have. Once connected, it takes a lot of effort to separate them, but I managed.

Late_Description3001 2026-02-17 15:00

I stopped before actually damaging the piece. We had two grown men pulling against it. We attached it to a hard surface and pulled on it while pushing away with our legs. I’m glad I messaged you about this, because as I type this out it sounds ridiculous. I need to message Tesla before it burns my house down.

CopperBlitter 2026-02-17 15:53

Yeah, if you've pulled that hard, don't move ok to horses pulling in opposite directions. Message Tesla and see if they can provide any tips. Or keep it like it is and feel confident that nobody is going to steal the adapter.

Put a padlock around each cable, each with one end of these braided cables. https://www.harborfreight.com/15-ft-x-38-in-braided-steel-security-cable-62415.html
