Right Turn Signal Cancels Automatically – BYD Song L DM-i

Same_Ad_4717 | 2026-01-05 12:03 | 17 views

I am experiencing an issue with the right turn signal on my BYD Song L DM-i 2025. When I activate the right indicator, it works normally for about 2–5 seconds, then automatically turns off even though the steering wheel has not been returned to center. If I touch or slightly move the turn signal stalk again, it starts working, but then stops again after a few seconds. The left turn signal works perfectly with no issues. This problem occurs even when the vehicle is stationary and the steering wheel is not being turned. Could you guys tell me what is the problem and how to fix it? Thanks!

Hi there, On my BYD Seal U DM-i (which should be the European equivalent of the Song DM-i), the turn signal stalk has two distinct behaviors: • If I lightly tap the stalk, the indicator flashes for a few seconds (lane-change mode). • If I push the stalk further until it clicks into position (up or down), the indicator stays on continuously and only turns off when I manually cancel it or when the steering wheel returns to center after a turn. Just to clarify: does this issue on your Song L DM-i also happen when the stalk is fully engaged in the “clicked” position, or only when it is lightly pressed? In other words, does the turn signal lever on your car work the same way as on mine, with a short-flash mode and a locked mode, or does it switch off even when fully locked? This distinction could help determine whether it’s a normal lane-change behavior, a stalk mechanism issue, or a software/sensor problem.

It happens even when the stalk is in the locked (clicked) position. When I push it, the indicator turns on and stays on only while I’m applying pressure. As soon as I release the pressure, after about 2–3 seconds the indicator turns off, even though the stalk is still physically in the locked position.

That does sound very unusual. If the indicator turns off even when the stalk is physically in the locked (clicked) position, then it’s likely not normal behavior. At this point, unless someone else here has experienced the same issue and found a fix, it may be worth taking the car to an authorized service center so they can check the stalk mechanism and/or any related software or sensor issues. On my car, I can say that sometimes the **turn signal sound disappears** when other notifications overlap (ADAS alerts, warnings, etc.), which can give the impression that the indicator has stopped working. However, by checking the side mirror or the dashboard indicator, I can see that the turn signal is actually still active. (Also, apologies for the confusion earlier — I realized only now that the **BYD Song L DM-i 2025** and my **BYD Seal U DM-i** are not the same model.)

Thanks, no worries at all

If you confirm the actual lights are not flashing when the stalk is locked on, you need to get it serviced immediately
