BYD Seal brakes squeeling

Anybody having issues with their BYD seal brakes squeeling when reversing. Neighbours beginning to hate me when I leave house early in morning. LSH Auto Stockport say it's normal

happens because you don't use them enough because of regen. find a quiet place to do a couple of hard stops in reverse from a reasonable speed to clean the discs off

Mine does it too. It's kinda annoying but I read it somewhere it's normal?

I have the same problem, and it's not normal. I don't use regen breaking at all. Every day I try to apply a few harder brakes, and it's still the same. The whole street knows I'm leaving every morning. I went to the dealership to report the problem and called BYD headquarters. Next week, they're replacing my brake pads and discs under warranty. The dealership told me it's a fairly common problem.

Just came to say I'm 1400 miles into mine and the rear brakes squeal a bit. Not sure why, and it's not causing me any concern, but figured I'd share that you're not alone.

It will help if you turn off the regen or at least set it to the lowest setting. Drive around for a day or two; the brake pads will be doing more work and scrubbing the disc surface better. Gotta do this on my Atto from time to time

My car also does this

In reverse so it does not regen? Never thought about it. Makes sense

SexyDraenei 2026-01-26 23:19

yeah doesnt seem to regen in reverse

SexyDraenei 2026-01-27 00:39

> I don't use regen breaking at all can you completely turn off regen? doesn't seem like a good idea.

Mine does too (Seal U DMi base model) but only in the wet when reversing.

If you don’t want to change anything and the car always does this you might try parking the other way around so you can leave in the morning without reversing :)

Lol mine does this too, but I live next to the sea so it happens even more frequently for me. Its all because break disks and plates arnt being used, they start rusting due to the weather. Every time it starts squeaking, I go to my works carpark and turn Regen to low and do a few high speed and hard stops. Cleans the disks and squeaking stops. Else keep regen on low and do a few motorway trips and they will slowly clean up.(It's just a shame for all the lost regen on low) Someone in the comments said reverse and stop which I yet have to try!

I'd love to but it's a nightmare parking other way round lol
