BYD Seal Excellence (UK) – mirror tap / dashcam power question

homegrownveg222 | 2026-01-26 11:26 | 5 views

Hi all, I’ve got a BYD Seal Excellence (UK) and I’m looking to install a third-party dashcam. I’d really like a clean, cable-free (or minimal cable) setup rather than running wires down to the fuse box. I know BYD offer the OEM dashcam which integrates nicely, but honestly I’m not impressed with the video quality, especially on busy UK roads with lots going on, so I’d prefer to stick with a higher-quality aftermarket cam. Has anyone successfully used a rear-view mirror tap / dongle (e.g. power taken from the mirror housing) on the Seal?

Very interested in this after giving up on the OEM one

You can wire in to the fusebox using a piggyback connector. That way you dont have to cut a splice the OEM wiring. https://preview.redd.it/iisxyc4y7rfg1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d2a95ae78edb5e1b9944240b041b54d440bc61d

yeah those things are pretty janky themselves though, and its a pretty decent run to the fuse panel from the top of the window. There is stuff you can buy that just plugs into the harness behind the mirror, so no cutting and no cabling. Haven't tried them myself though.
