Setting cruise control or trying to

Fishman | 2025-09-16 21:03 | 26 views

Can anyone tell me how the devil you can set the cruise control to increase in increments of less than 5mph ? I have now had the Seal U for five months, I like it, a lot, but I still can’t get it to increase or decrease the speed by anything other than 5mph increments? Not great when or if you hit it accidentally and suddenly there is a speed camera man grinning, or is it leering at you, just up the road. I’ve never had any other make or model of any vehicle that hasn’t been able to adjust, up or down, by 1mph but this thing is defeating me! Or is it not sophisticated enough to be able to do it? With all the other safety features packed into it I find it difficult to believe that is the case but maybe you know better? Any help would be appreciated. Autos & Vehicles

This is based on the Seal BEV, but I’m reasonably sure it works on all BYD cars. To increase or decrease in 5 mph increments, you press the button up or down once. To increase or decrease in 1 mph increments, press and hold the button in position. It will then start to increase/decrease in 1 mph increments. When it lands on exactly what you want, release the button. It takes a little practice, but it works well. Arguably it should be the other way around, but once you know, you know

Well done sir, and thank you for the reply. I’ll give it another go and see if I can get it to work. I have a suspicion that I have only been holding it, the switch, up or down to try and adjust the speed and not pushing it in while trying to increase or decrease the speed. I think that too many years of driving Mercs and Rage Rovers has conditioned me to use of, in the Mercs case, the limiter and in the Rage Rovers case not wanting to touch anything too hard in case it breaks !

Didn’t know that, must give it a try!

It definitely works A little counterintuitive for sure, as to me, it would make more sense to use a single ‘click/push’ for 1, and hold for 5, but once you know, you know… use the accelerator to get close to the speed you want, engage the ACC or ICC, and the push and hold the rocker switch to get exactly what you want, and then release.

I’ll give it a go today, not used the Seal U this week, been taking advantage of the decent weather, as and when it appears, to drive other cars that only see the light of day in the good weather. I hope I can get a result from your advice, no reason not to, unless there is a fault with my particular vehicle, which I doubt. Happy motoring my friend.

Once again thank you Your most welcome I have the BYD Seal (bev) since Apr last year, and I think it’s a fantastic car, that just keeps getting better with car and app updates. That includes this ability to change cruise control in 1km/mile increments, which wasn’t there originally, but came with one of the OTA updates. The only trouble is that communication of all of the features/updates is relatively poor, and relies more on individuals finding them ‘by accident’ and posting them on sites like this. Have to agree about the OTA update situation on the BYD but I’ve become used to that after owning an iPhone for years ! I imagine there must be a list available, somewhere out there, that gives all of the updates and what they do but I’ve not been able to locate it yet. To be honest it’s the same with the SatNav updates, I’ve downloaded two during the six months since collecting my Seal but I found the ability to update the satnav totally by accident ! The dealer never mentioned the ability to do so and it was only me being nosey that led me to finding it. But that said I really like the car when I bought it and I like it a whole bunch more after driving it for the last six months and I’ve forgiven far worse cars for far worse faults, that cost far more, Rage Rovers being top of that list.
