How far can you really go in the BYD Seal?

What range are you getting on a full charge? We know the spec - but how’s it performing in real life? Drop us your range stats below

I have a RWD Seal with just over 20k km on it. My ‘lifetime’ result according to the car is 14.9 kWh/100km. Based on an 82.5kW battery, that’s a range of 554km (346 miles). I do very little motorway driving, and I like to play the efficiency game, although I also love reasonably spirited driving on small twisty roads. I haven’t found much difference in efficiency when driving in normal vs eco. Range did drop last winter (included in the lifetime result above) to about 75% of the summer range. After over a year with the Seal (my first EV), I think it’s very simple; having big a** LFP battery means you can charge it any way you like (no need to consider only charging to 80%) and you have loads of range. I usually only charge at home once a week, and I’ve never had to use a public charger. Autos & Vehicles

I have the seal excellence here in uk. My range is anywhere around 270 miles in summer and 220 to 230 in winter….closer to 200 in snow. I charge at home and my commute is 48 miles round trip so never really worry about it to be honest. I do 1000 miles a month and charging costs have been between £20 and £25 a month

We have the Excellence model and getting about 30KWh/100 miles which is 3.3miles/KWh so not bad and works out to be 275mile range then.... Which I guess is OK for the real world. We went to Edinburgh from Aberdeen - mostly motorway driving and used 45% of charge on the way there (About the same average). On the way back it was 7-8 degrees colder and wet and used 55% charge which was 35.7KWh/100miles which is a drop in range to 231 miles! I was even driving more slowly as I had severe range anxiety and at night with less traffic! Big change any reason for this known? Can't just be the temperature? Heating and A/C and radio was switched off to conserve energy on the return and that did not help! Only done 500 miles......

It is exactly like you say - it's all about learning how to use your EV to its optimal efficiency!

The cold weather does affect the efficiency of the battery and we can totally understand why this might be nerve-racking when making longer or unfamiliar trips. To avoid your range anxiety we'd highly encourage planning your trips, like you would if you needed to fill up an ICE car on the way back from work. We find it just gives you that extra piece of mind Thank you for sharing your experience! Autos & Vehicles
