Satnav

Well that came as a surprise ! I had never delved into the depths of the satnav before and today I did and found out that there is an update availability tab ! To be honest I have no idea what it has added to my system but it certainly updated something because the version number has changed after the update. Who knew ! Well not me obviously but has anyone else found the page, used the update button and know what it updated ? I’m assuming it’s updated maps but as I said, can’t actually see anything obvious at the moment. Any ideas BYDers ?

I did find that a few weeks ago, and like you, I’m assume it’s just an update of maps (just like google maps does occasionally). You might have noticed that the car Nav is now integrated with google, including pictures and reviews of selected destinations. If you go into route overview, then click on the destination or waypoint, you can see the pictures/reviews. Autos & Vehicles

Cheers man, I’ll give that a go. I normally use Waze but have been trying the generic one to see how it goes. It would be nice if it were able to supply up to date reports of where mobile speed traps are but otherwise I’ve found it to be very good. Shame it only has a life span of free updates for 3 years from purchase of the vehicle but if Waze or similar is still available in 3 years not a major concern.

It looks great in portrait mode. It’s a shame that CarPlay and AA don’t work in portrait. It really makes a difference when using Nav

Agreed, portrait does look very good on the generic satnav, much more info on the display and therefore forewarned of any potential issues ahead. That Apple display option has to be surmountable by a simple Apple update if they choose to do it! Can’t imagine why they wouldn’t, after all they have nothing to lose and so much to gain in goodwill from their users. Do the new Tesla’s show Apple in portrait mode I wonder ? If so then it has to be a BYD glitch. Anyway I’ll now switch between both depending on needs or whim.

Tesla doesn’t have portrait mode (other than in the Model S), and even if they did, they don’t allow/support CarPlay or Android Auto. That said, their software is extremely good. Still, you can’t beat choice… BYD are the only manufacturer that I know of that gives the user the choice of portrait or landscape. In reviews, it’s often referred to as a gimmick or party trick, but I think it’s brilliant. I don’t like the way it always reverts back to landscape when you turn off the car (I’d prefer if it stayed in whatever position the user has it). I’ve tried with auto-rotate on and off, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference.

Ah well can’t have it all ways I suppose. Overall I can’t find much about the car to moan about. The one gripe would be that there is no 12v socket in the boot! Why ! Mind you, if that’s my only gripe then I think BYD has done a better job than most other manufacturers I have bought cars from. Be lucky and enjoy the car.
