Considering BYD Seal to replace BMW I4 - thoughts?

Okay, so boys been able to afford to lease BMW but times are a bit tight and I’ve just thought I’d save some money and there’s some cracking deals on BYD and in particular the seal model? The Range seems pretty damn good not that it’s a major issue if I get anything less than say 250 but I’m more thinking about the fact that the drive and the tech should in theory be similar to the BMW right?

I have had a debate with friends about a similar comparison. Basically the argument comes down to a few things 1. Is it the wow factor - If your after a cool looking car more than anything else, go for it. I started looking at the Atto3, but one test drive in the Seal locked me in. 2. If you are a short range city driver - Seal is probably not the best. Its a long heavy beast, so parking in smaller spots is going to have overhang and narrow streets you will be worried about getting though. Some of the smaller sized EV models would be a better fit, and a less stressful run-about. 3. Longer range - Where I sit at current, where i have about a 40km (80 total) drive to work on freeways every day. If thats the case I recommend the Seal 100%, the adaptive speed control is great and the lane assist is good for when you go to do something where you pay less attention to the road than you should. Also a nice firm quite drive at high speeds, so big plus. If this is where you sit, i would go with the middle 'premium' model as the longest range... And i still beat 99% of cars off the light in sports mode, so no need to pay an extra 10k for the performance model for the last 1%.

As someone who took a leap to a seal there was no looking back for me. I do 120 miles a day commuting for work and its a pleasure on the motorway, feels and drives like a real expensive car. Range is good, summer it uses about 20/30% in winter minus conditions that can go to 40/60% but i dont particularly drive easy and its all motorway. The thing that swayed me is no optional extras, everything is included and has all the gadgets you would expect from a high end car and feels like a high end car. Also no subscription models for anything unlike BMW and other German manufacturers. Go for it

I daily drive a 2024 Seal Premium, and it’s been pretty good. It’s not as nice as a BMW i4, but it’s still pretty nice. I’ve had a few issues with my car though, including an instrument display failure, intermittent parking cameras and now air conditioning not blowing cold in hot weather. The adaptive cruise is nice, but the auto-steering in intelligent cruise control mode is downright dangerous. Auto emergency braking is also kind of intrusive and annoying. When everything is working properly, it’s a damn nice car. The problems I’ve had are sufficiently annoying that I probably wouldn’t recommend this as a purchase though.

Okay, so I took the seal out for a test drive today. They didn’t have the excellence for a test drive so it was the design that I took out but oh my goodness what an amazing drive quality the whole car in terms of build quality both interior and exterior, I would say is not inferior to my BMWI5! The seal was a real pleasure to drive it was actually quite fun and the technology on it is on par if not slightly better in places than my current iphone 5 which has a few things like the auto drive or whatever you call it which is a standard in the BYD seal! I also can’t believe the quality of the doors and the quality of the sound when you close the doors it’s unreal. It’s a lot better than BMW in my honest opinion and I’ve had a BMW IX6 series are now an I50 and a four series as well and this BYD seal I think really gives the German badge a massive run for its money if my opinion! I just wish they had the excellent and they four-wheel-drive as that would’ve been really interesting but the design is way good enough from a handling point of view and super super quick as well

Actually, the only negativity is probably me is the way the centre screen dims sometimes when it’s sunny. It’s actually quite hard to see. Maybe there’s a setting for it to put it on full blast brightness I don’t know but that was the only negativity I would say, and it was a bit annoying. I’ll be honest and also when the sun catches the screen is hard to see.

Yeah it’s refreshing that a car maker charges you for the car and you get everything included and not have to pay a subscription for every thing else. Once my 320d dies, I will be getting a BYD.
