Byd Seal Design or Excellence

I am looking to buy a Seal. Can someone tell me if the excellence is worth the money plus or the design is the best choice?

I have the design. Excellence for me was just not needed - Less range for more money? If it is speed you are interested in then I can assure you the design is definitely more than enough. Only small downside is no HUD, but to be honest the info screen behind the wheel is informative and big enough to see anyway

Icefeldt 2026-01-15 09:59

What is the price difference for you? For me it was clear that, when I buy a new car, I want the top of the line. In hindsight, especially the HUD is a big plus imho. You really do not have to divert your view from the street. Apart from that more power, AWD are naturally nice to have.

HotelNo5719 2026-01-15 10:01

Thanks for the reply. When i tested it, my friend that was in the backseat, said that there was no room to fit the foot under the front Seat. Is this true?

stsfyrcm 2026-01-15 10:05

There is no 'top of the line' with this here mate. They have the exact same specs exterior wise and infotainment wise. Seats are the same, wheels, tyres, windows. The difference here is a slight speed increase, which in almost any country is illegal to drive as fast as it can reach anyway. A HUD when you have it you use it. Trust me, if you were to lose it you wouldn't miss it. AWD is only going to make a difference really for the higher speeds in the excellence. More money, less range but the exact same car makes no sense to me but each to their own.

stsfyrcm 2026-01-15 10:06

Not entirely sure if I am being honest. I have baby seats in the rear, so I have never actually had a passenger sit in the seats other than in the front!

HotelNo5719 2026-01-15 10:07

I had rwd and awd before, loved them both in theyr ways. My question is, is the HUD and the AWD worth the money or is it not enough to justify the cost

Icefeldt 2026-01-15 10:13

Can't follow you, as there are definitely differences in the specs. Exterior difference: - red brake calipers with the excellence model technical differences: - AWD - 530HP with dual motors instead od 313HP with a single motor - HUD - Adaptive dampers - iTAC stability control system and the top speed is the same in the design and the excellence. Only the acceleration is faster.

stsfyrcm 2026-01-15 10:17

You would class red paint on the break calipers, HUD and faster acceleration worth it for £3,000?

Worried_Sentence1298 2026-01-15 10:25

Yes, there is very little room under the seats, but also the place in the backseats are in my opinion very spacious

Icefeldt 2026-01-15 10:36

I own an Excellence. That should answer your question. ;-) I plan on driving the car "as long as it will work". And as the Excellence only cost 42.000€ (new) I did not even look in the direction of the Design model.

Icefeldt 2026-01-15 10:37

For me it was worth the money. But it depends on YOUR financial situation. What is the surcharge and does it really hurt/affect you?

stsfyrcm 2026-01-15 10:37

Yes, I gathered that. Paying more for less range is mind blowing to me

HotelNo5719 2026-01-15 10:57

It is not a problem to buy the excellence. But if I can save money i dont need to spend it is ok too 😅.

flamespit4 2026-01-15 11:39

I got the design. Aftermarket HUD 20 euro, painted the calipers myself for 50 euro. Less range and faster acceleration (that is already ludicrously fast?) for so much extra, wasn't worth it, and the range hit too. Also, the tyres are so expensive, and it will eat through them way faster if you DO use the acceleration.

Here in Brazil they only brought the Excellence trim. They lent me one for a weekend. The torque and power is absurd. Much more than needed. Really fun, but realistically you will not use it all. On that trim, this car is a ticket factory. Wish they brought the less power trim for a more affordable cost. Would be my pick. Instead I got the PHEV King GX with \~100-110 Km EV Range and +900 km petrol range. 197hp 32kg torque. Already awesome power in my view.

jeffreykuma 2026-01-15 11:49

The brake calipers are not painted in my Excellence?

flamespit4 2026-01-15 11:51

I think some countries have them painted for Excellence model

jeffreykuma 2026-01-15 12:00

It is really confusing all the different specs all over the world lol

Nitrogliserin 2026-01-15 12:08

Design for a faster RWD car

MulberryForward7361 2026-01-15 12:57

I think you get a V2L cable included too? Is there a difference in leather quality like on the sealion?

Icefeldt 2026-01-15 13:16

True. V2L Adapter and a NFC Card is included, which is not with the current Design Seals which are delivered. Leather is the same.

Pale_Emergency_537 2026-01-15 14:04

If range is all that's important to you. You're not everyone.

stsfyrcm 2026-01-15 15:47

I mean it is an electric car, so yes range is somewhat important? Lol

Raider7OO 2026-01-15 18:03

If you have mountains and snow go for the AWD version 😉

Icefeldt 2026-01-15 20:39

Until "now" the brake calipers were not painted. But now there is the Seal "Facelift" which has some changes: - red calipers for the Excellence - new design for the rims - smaler panoramic roof, but with an electric sunshade - electronic dampers in the excellence can now be adjusted in the infotainment to either "comfort" or "sport". - no stitched BYD logo in the headrests any more This facelift was released in South East asia a few months ago and now you also get it if you order a Seal in Europe

Icefeldt 2026-01-15 20:46

I'm in the lucky position to have solar panels on my roof and that I don't need to drive long distances. Therefore the comsumption/range is not really a factor for me. But yes for other people this may be (more) relevant.

jeffreykuma 2026-01-15 22:17

In Germany at least not. I was lookingnit up today after it was mentioned here

Icefeldt 2026-01-15 22:23

The website has not yet been updated, but apparently if you now go into a German dealership and order a BYD seal, you will now get the "new facelift model". At least, thats's what a few people in the German forum ( https://www.byd-seal-forum.de/forum/) reported, when they ordered Seals in the last few weeks and wanted to know what "the new 2026 model is" that the sales person mentioned.

jeffreykuma 2026-01-15 22:28

Oh nice to know, thanks.

Icefeldt 2026-01-15 22:31

No problem. I found the mentioned thread: https://www.byd-seal-forum.de/forum/thread/1561-byd-seal-excellence-modell-2026/ As there also are a few negative aspects, it may be a hard decision which model to choose (if you can choose)

WinterBarnacles 2026-01-17 00:33

AWD is awesome on snow and ice. The acceleration is bananas but honestly it's way faster than I ever need and it's not like the RWD is *slow*. It's also really fun to accelerate like a crazy thing going uphill on windy mountain roads and the handling is really great, I'm not sure what the RWD is like in that situation. If you won't be driving on snow and ice much then I'd get the RWD, you get more range for less money. If you'll be on snow and ice and you can afford the difference then I'd get the AWD.

Rylan_S1 2026-01-26 20:47

You're completely, and quite conveniently, glossing over what a big deal AWD is for a car. The adaptive suspension isn't something to be sniffed at.

Red brake callipers? Help, someone has stolen my red brake callipers!
