So the people that were claiming 40l/100km when these first came out must have been lying hard or doing something very wrong...

If you can charge the battery before the trip and its a short trip so the engine doesn't have to keep charging the battery all the time, then sure, ~12l/100km is reasonable. Tow something 2.5t over a longer distance without an opportunity to charge, then you'll see much higher petrol consumption. 40l/100km is extreme, more like around 20. Edit: [My guess was wrong, it's more like 30l/100km when loaded close to the maximum. Which seems to be roughly in-line with other dual cab utes.](https://youtu.be/TGjKHYE2k4I?si=Su7wSrRWjCfo7tMG)

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2026-03-19 07:20

Yeah, when they first came out a lot of people were claiming 40l/100km But even 20l/100km isn't great, most "mainstream" 4x4's do that towing 3,500kg This should do better towing a tonne less...

ewan82 2026-03-19 07:23

That is not a 750km trailer. It’s way shorter.

Current_Inevitable43 2026-03-19 07:28

Thats a tiny trailer. Add a decent caravan 2t non pop top and go beyond what u can with electrics. Is that caravan even 750kg???? A Mazda 3 could tow it. This is a full sized Ute let utvtow a full sized load

Nmnmn11 2026-03-19 07:35

Youre towing a 500kg trailer. Now try a 3.5t boat

Asleep-County-6465 2026-03-19 07:39

I mean my 15 year old diesel dual cab 4x4 ute gets 11-12l per 100km when towing a similiar sized trailer and im sure newer diesel dual cab utes could achieve even better than that so im struggling to see the argument...

fdsv-summary_ 2026-03-19 07:43

I get 8l/100km of petrol in my car towing a 750kg trailer.

dutchydownunder 2026-03-19 07:44

The tow tests all tested @ max gvm and at highway speeds. Not an empty small trailer at god knows what speed or conditions.

middyonline 2026-03-19 07:44

Plenty of reviews on YouTube showing 20+L/100km and that's only towing a 2T caravan. I saw one where the battery was basically gone after 50kms and then it drove like a squealing pig on the ICE. Nothing wrong with the Shark if all you're doing is daily driving, towing a jet ski and a bit of sand/gravel. Just stop pretending it's this hard core 4WD.

BigScore4047 2026-03-19 07:45

I get about the same economy with my nearly 30 year old Ram 3500 with a Cummins in it, so I agree with your point

middyonline 2026-03-19 07:46

Stop right there criminal! Trying to tow a 3.5T boat when the vehicle only has a 2.5T capacity! Shake my head..

shakeitup2017 2026-03-19 07:52

If you tow a caravan on holidays once a year, who cares how much fuel it uses towing when 99% of the time you're driving around the city empty towing nothing. That's the real consideration when buying a vehicle like this, and in that context it makes sense.

Nmnmn11 2026-03-19 07:58

Well that alone, among many others, is reason not to buy this car

LegitimateCattle 2026-03-19 08:12

My 2019 hilux with a tray got 12.4l per hundred, did 120,000km in it with 110k of those being highway. Diesel is over rated

thisisme033 2026-03-19 08:23

Ok, use mine then. I's 2100kg on the trailer. Let's run it up the Alpine Way and see what happens.

ttoksie2 2026-03-19 08:29

Tow a 2.5 ton trailer for 309km and get back to me.

Diabolical_potplant 2026-03-19 08:30

Only 3.5t? Just get a semi and pull the full 55.5t the way Mack intended

This. The amount of people driving old Patrols getting the same economy when towing just cannot comprehend the fact that a hybrid is better for the other 48 weeks of the year.

Fancy-Resource-3521 2026-03-19 08:40

Yes but you have to look at it.

GrabLimp40 2026-03-19 08:43

Clarify the many others? I’m sick of this “I don’t like it so I’ll make shit up”… is that you Mr Trump?

I dunno, looks better than a Tasman

coupleandacamera 2026-03-19 09:25

We'd really need to know the weght being towed, is the trailer empty or does it have 1500kg in it?  Real world figures for the shark are a bit all over the place by report, but I've seen some good ones in there so it's not impossible this lads was getting the claimed figures with a load behind. That said, I'd  like 3.5 towing, a transfer case and rear differential lock along with  a larger battery for an extended range, but is also like a v10 that spots $50 bills out the exhaust.

Background_Syrup9706 2026-03-19 09:52

8.7 litres per 100kms. My car runs on 6.7 litres per hundred kms I know I don’t tow but work out the cost of a new car this person is miles behind me.

LloydGSR 2026-03-19 09:59

2009 RC Colorado, my trailer is taller than that. Two weeks ago, two bikes, fridge, parts, tools, food and drink, fuel, oils, swags in the trailer, three people in the car, chairs, table, clothing and bike gear in the tray. 10.3L/100km.

civicSi92 2026-03-19 10:16

Really, yeah the guys a dick and yeah what's happening now makes me like him less but can we not try to bring American bs problems here. Read enough of that crap in non Australian sites, dont need to read it here.

civicSi92 2026-03-19 10:16

You set the bar in the sewer there.

GrabLimp40 2026-03-19 13:33

Just making an observation that these days people make shit up to justify their point. Every brand has its failings, but knob jockeys tend to jump on this anti this brand or that brand band wagon when reality is they are fine, maybe good, maybe better than good. I don’t own an electric car or a hybrid, but I acknowledge electric motors are far more effective, efficient, and in every other meaningful metric better than ic.
