BYD seal u dmi consumption

Positive-Edge4798 | 2026-01-05 00:01 | 25 views

hi guys… I have recently bought seal u dmi… before that, I was using Toyota Corolla… i am experiencing that byd seal u dmi sometimes consumes significantly high amount of petrol… on motor way, i have seen down to 28 mpg on cruise control at 70 miles speed… i have used a rav4 before and didn’t see these numbers on RAV4… i am not new to hybrid cars but seal u doesn’t reflect the feeling of using a hybrid vehicle and plus it is plug in hybrid… it is supposed to be really efficient but it is the opposite… save mode is totally consumes more fuel to recharge the battery but it takes long time to increase the battery level… not enough… in the end, I end up with a highly consumed petrol…

Why do you keep it on save? Switch it to auto and your consumption will be close to the rav 4. With an empty battery it still will be higher than the rav 4 because it is a PHEV it needs to be charged regularly. If charged regularly it can consume 0 fuel daily and keep this petrol engine for the long trips.

I normally use around 50% of the battery for these trips, try to deplete to 25% before I reach home so last 60 ish kms I drive EV. 90 km/hr average trip this is.

Well I used on auto mode as well… I am a taxi driver… I nearly do up to 150 miles a day.. when the buttery hits 25% then it acts like a normal hybrid car and then it starts consumes inefficient petrol according to my experience…

Unfortunately you've chosen a bad vehicle for doing 150 miles a day. PHEVs excel at doing as much as they can on battery (ie <60m/100km), and reserving petrol for longer journeys. A full EV would have been a better choice

Do you start the day in EV mode? I've seen some recommendations to keep it in the HEV mode even if the battery is charged when you know you're going to exceed the EV range.

I use it on auto mode and on hev in order to use the battery longer in the day…

I don't know if temperature has a significant impact on fuel consumption. In Spain, during the summer at 35 degrees Celsius, a 600km trip on the highway at around 140-150km/h, starting with a full battery and fuel tank, resulted in a consumption of 6.5L/100km. Now, in winter, a 280km mountain trip yielded 7.5L/100km going uphill and 4.8L/100km returning downhill. On the highway, it's not the most efficient car out there, but compared to a friend who has a Renault Austral petrol, I always get better fuel economy at a higher average speed. Another issue is how much we trust the onboard computer... Cheers!

I believe you are using the wrong settings for your car. Charging while driving increases fuel consumption, obviously. Either let it run the battery until the end in auto feature or keep it in save at the amount of battery it drain to. Exemple: you leave the house with a full charge and put it at save at 50% this way it will only charge when it drops from 50% but it will fast charge until it gets to 50%. This way it's almost like it's not recharging and only use the ICE. for your job I doubt a PHEV without a 150km battery works. And such a big battery is not really pheasible due to weight. https://preview.redd.it/5uil0beiimbg1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=10d6e07c353f719746ddd402f480c45f0798f592 My last 50kms SAVE mode at 50% battery like I explain earlier.

What would be the recommended settings for trips on the highway longer than the battery capacity.

In highway it depends of the range you are planning and the road i do trip with a lot of high and downhill. When highill reduce the power on the pedals because the consumption increase a lot (2tons car mate) on downhill that almost 3 to 5 liters or 0 and charge the car. Plain road i do 4 to 7 liters most of the km are done in hev mode. For long trip set to normal and save to 70% For short trip EV Middle mode 150 km per day i set to normal and 50% then I switch to EV at the end of the trip when i know i can plug the car. My consumption for 10 months

brusslix 2026-01-07 08:55

Thanks. Why would you set to save 70%. I think it increases the petrol consumption ?

Certain-Magazine3845 2026-01-08 10:19

Yes but at the end of the trip you will still have battery to travel in a city then the petrol consumption will drop to zero, you will have more range than in the highway and have plenty of time to find a charger. 70% save are for the long trip and when you are not sure you able to charge the car. When the battery is empty the fuel consumption will be impacted more as the petrol motor have to compensate for the weight of the battery and to run the car. If the battery reach more than 70% then extra percent will ease the petrol motor you get a lot of extra charge in downhill there is a high power going back to the battery for few KW and then its drop to the limit of the intake of the battery (less than 18KWh)

Certain-Magazine3845 2026-01-08 10:22

Also dont drive like crazy in the highway thats the game of hybrid car you have to drive at ease and chill with the speed to limit the consumption. I drive like an old man xD

Which version do you have? How was the noise from the tyres and the engine on 140 kmph?

Sereix07 2026-01-28 01:28

I have the Boost version, the one with the small battery. At 140 km/h the engine noise is considerable; the cabin could be better soundproofed, but you also have to consider the difference between driving in near-silent electric mode and starting to hear the combustion engine.
