First BYD Seal Service at 30k kilometer

Sef0508 | 2026-01-02 17:36 | 33 views

Hi all, In December, as a BYD Seal owner in Portugal, I had my first service done at 30,000 kilometres, as is required in Portugal. During the inspection, the following items were completed and charged for, among others. GEAR OIL Castrol ON EV TRANSMISSION FLUID 5L. Cost: €264. The total amount for the service was €525.  I have not found any indication anywhere that an oil change is necessary. Only checks should have been carried out. However, the service partner M&Costas in Guimaraes claims that this is required by BYD. BYD has not yet responded to my enquiry. To be honest, I feel cheated by the dealer and do not intend to accept this. Therefore, my question is whether anyone has access to the dealer information for BYD Portugal and/or can confirm whether I am right or wrong. I would also like to know if you have had similar experiences. Thank you very much for your attention and help.

A Salvador Caetano disse-me que o custo ronda os 300€ e também vi testemunhos pela internet. Supostamente deverias conseguir fazer isso fora da BYD desde que fique no livro de revisões, mas nao me atravesso por isso

Weren’t you presented with an estimate on the services they were doing? I don’t have a BYD, but when I serviced my ICE car at a dealership, they always gave me the final price based on the recommended service required for the mileage.

ive been told the awd version needs a specific oil to add to the part that connects the two motors. can it be related to it? (eu importei um byd mas fui ao servico da salvador caetano na maia embora eu seja de braga e tenha m&costas la. disseram me que nao precisava de revisao e foram impecaveis comigo, recomendo ires la)

I have a BYD Han in Belgium, and during the first inspection, they also changed the oil. According to the garage, this was prescribed by BYD. Since this is the case in different countries, I think this is correct.

Yes, it's about the oil. But I can't believe it needs to be changed every 30,000 kilometres. I haven't received any official confirmation of this yet. Only the dealer claims this.

You means the cost for the first service? If yes it would be the same I expected. But M&Costas added the 264€ for the oil change.

Can't you call a BYD dealership?

The two motors aren't connected...

In EV there are certain parts that require services, but these include usually filters, brake fluid etc. All the oils supposed to be a closed loop, if there's a leak, you'll fix the underlying issue and change the oil. Otherwise there are no contaminants or exposure to air which usually determines the service interval.

My dealer in Switzerland also notified me of the required oil change. Not yet done, since the parts did not arrive yet.

My dealer in Finland told that there is a part in gearing that requires oli change. It is the most highly esteemed dealer that is also in charge of Mercedes Benzes here, so i don’t think they would be lying.

Based on my google research, that is the price is for 5L? Maybe the car need 10liters or more excluded the manhour price which make it costly.. Based on my experience owning bunch of ICE before I would suggest gear oil change every 20k KM to prolong the life. It may seem too much but I believe every fluid needs to be frequently cycled to extend the life of moving parts in vehicle..

Totally correct that the transmission gear oil is changed. All inspection items are also listed in the user's manual: https://i.imgur.com/doxYLQf.png But here in Germany the price for the gear oil is way cheaper! BYD Part number: 1701426100 - GEAR OIL EV - 26,28€ per liter. (3,5 liter in total for the AWD Seal) So around 92€ for the oil
