BYD Seal OBC 7kW to 11kW

dagunn007 | 2025-12-01 04:01 | 34 views

I have an Aussie delivered 2024 BYD Seal Performance that has an onboard charger of 7kW which is super annoying when other international versions have 11kW. I know it wouldn't be a simple 5 minute thing to swap the OBC, but does someone know what all the parts one would need to achieve this change? I'm assuming an auto-elec could do the fitment pretty easily?

Not an expert, but I feel the 8 in 1 integration of Power electronics will make this a difficult/impossible task, since iirc the OBC is bonded to the drive motor and other components, and you have to replace components like inverters and motors together with it, which would be prohibitively expensive. In the meantime, stick to 7kW or 22kW chargers.

It would probably be cheaper and easier to get a high power DC charger for home than replace the charging pile in your Seal.

Thats unfortunately not possible. it really was a ridiculous decision to get cars with 7kw OB charging, especially when other countries get 11kw

I know it won't make you feel any better but only countries that install 3phase to domestic dwelling can really take advantage of the 11kw OBC.  While I have the 11kw OBC I'm limited to a 7kw wall wart at home anyways.

Australia has 3 phase as an option for domeatic dwellings.

My car has a 11 kW OBC but charge only with a 7kW home charger.

7kw and 11kw AC are not much different if you have to charge at home overnight. If I am in a hurry, I will go to DC charger station.

It is very annoying that we only get 7kW with BYD. I have a 22kW charger at home and I've only been able to use it up to 7kW with my BYD. Hopefully BYD sees the trend changing with Zeeker and Geely who are using 11kW now.
