Seal U DM-i 10 days later (more like 28 days later - pun intended)

Skinsbama | 2025-11-18 09:45 | 31 views

Here’s my 10-day experience with my new car, and I’ve already contacted the dealer because a few things are a bit concerning. Looks like the honeymoon phase might be over **😆** **Tyre pressure:** The front tyre pressure keeps dropping a lot. Yesterday it went down to 30 psi, and this morning it was even at 19 (it later climbed back to 21). The tyre doesn’t look flat, so it might be a sensor issue, but I guess it needs checking. **Warning lights:** I had several warning lights that suddenly came on while I was driving. Once I parked, they all disappeared, except for the tyre pressure warning (as per above). I thought that's not normal behaviour. **Other orange lights:** I’ve attached a photo of some orange warning icons that have appeared a few times while driving. I’m not sure what they mean — anyone know? **OTA update:** I still don’t have any over-the-air update available. A bit disappointing, especially since it should have been updated before the handover. **ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control):** This is honestly the worst part of the car for me. It feels like it was programmed by someone who doesn’t drive or by AI. It’s incredibly temperamental and doesn’t feel safe. I’ve driven plenty of cars with ACC, and this is by far the worst. The most worrying behaviour: when you move to the left lane to overtake, instead of speeding up like every other ACC system, it actually *slows down* for a second before accelerating. That’s uncomfortable and potentially dangerous if you have cars coming up behind you. I’m hesitant to use ACC at all right now. **Auto High-Beam:** Also not working as it should. It switches on even when there are cars ahead or oncoming traffic. I’ve already had people flashing me because they were blinded. I keep having to manually turn it off, and I’m honestly considering not using it at all, which is a shame because the feature is there, just poorly implemented. **Parking sensors:** I’d seen others mention this, and now I understand why. The front sensors are especially bad; you can be practically touching the wall before they warn you. The rear ones are slightly better but still not as responsive as they should be. Thankfully, the 360° cameras are excellent and save the day. **Radio reception:** Not a huge issue for me, but worth mentioning. The antenna seems weak; some main local stations that work perfectly on older cars don’t come through at all. **Overall:** I love the comfort, the features and the space. But after just 10 days of ownership, I’m worried about how things will hold up over the next 1–5 years. Just wanted to share my experience so far. I’m based in Austria, and I’ll attach a few photos of the issues mentioned above.

I'm two months in with my Seal U Comfort. A quick snap shot where I am at, but I'm not having a lot of the issues you mentioned so 100% get it back to a dealer to check yours. Pro's: - Comfortable drive compared to my old Model Y - Interior quality refined for a cheap car as this is - Good Range - Good boot size - spec'ed up well for cost, ie sunroof, leatherette etc - Tyres that hit curb before wheels scuff - really quiet drive. Cons: - New UI is terrible IMO and screen too dim. - Connectivity poor as you mentioned, some places drops to zero where I am in UK. - Stereo flat even after adjusting equaliser - headlamps not enough range even after changing settings - Having to turn off speeding bleep every time. I know this is a EU thing, but it's annoying so not BYD fault. - Safety features seem inconsistent. - charging time is abysmal is you have to charge away from home. At 17.5kw - water leaks in door if left on a slight angled curb

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully it's just an early adjustment but not impressed. Yes, the turn off speeding bleep is annoying but I could live with it lol Also, I have a slow charge but I dont have a wall charge so I expected it.

sucks youre not having the best first days with the car. let me try to help out: * tire pressure: this could be a slow leak. i had one, it drove me crazy. id have it inflated to 38psi, then it would go down to 23-24psi and hold. turns out something punctured it at just the right angle where if it lets out enough air it just acts as a plug. have your tire guy check it, see if he can spot something. if its the tpms sensor it would show some odd unrealistic number or just be completely undetected * warning lights: that doesnt sound good. could you explain the scenario you were driving in? high speed? city streets? i have a sneaky feeling you got a bad 12v battery. this was a problem with my atto 3, the digital gauge cluster went static. turns out my 12v battery shit the bed * orange lights: send pics, ill try to help decode * ota update for the sl6 is admittedly very fucking slow. you are better off updating via usb. on the bright side, since you probably have an early version, you can still sideload apps:) go wild! search electro on this sub to start you off. * acc: they fixed this with an update. most recent one i think, the one that also allows you to cruise at 150kmh. * auto high beam: this is bat shit. useless. sorry. chinese car headlight syndrome is real, ask bjorn nyland. * parking sensors: fixed at a later update. same one where they fixed acc * radio reception: have them check your antenna. that doesnt seem right. i drive in butt fuck nowhere in asia and its doing just fine hope things look up from here

Hi, thanks for your comment, it made me laugh lol I've attached a pic of the orange lights; I thought I had with the post. \- Tyre pressure: I have contacted BYD and am waiting to understand when the car is going in for a check, soon hopefully, in case it is a leak \- warning lights: This morning, I was about to drop my child off at school, and I was doing less than 30 km/h as I was about to stop (there is even a speed camera). Stopped the car, and the warning lights disappeared. Thought it was weird. \- OTA: Will try that, thanks! \- ACC: Good to know, didn't enjoy the drive \- Parking sensor: ! \- Radio: will ask them once I bring the car into BYD Thanks for your help, some good news from what you're saying. https://preview.redd.it/8wbdgg4t002g1.jpeg?width=6981&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95032e2b615e4ae32459a5837ec41971d03a0061

your blind spot monitoring (left) and lane keep assist (right) signs are displaying faults. i have a very sneaky feeling your 12v battery is having a stroke, either your car was left at a warehouse somewhere for a long time before it ended up with you, or the boat that thing was on took a long ass detour. see if this works: hold the volume rocker at the center tunnel down for 10 seconds until the whole thing resets. center dash and center screen should soft reset (you can comfirm this by having a black screen then itll show the cool the earth by one degree slogan) if it doesnt go away, ask your byd dealer to check your BSM sensor and your ADAS cameras. tell them the faults arent going away, and mention as well the warning lights coming on. have them change out the 12v first before anything

Your tone is very moody seems like you are not happy with your purchase but let’s be real For that price you can’t expect to be all rose champagne.. have you ever driven a Range Rover ? You ll cry for real compared to these minor issues .. Byd has always responded well to feedback compared to other brands and am sure they will improve the performance of their products.. so be happy & enjoy what you got for the next 3 years

Skinsbama 2025-11-18 14:32

Thank you. I have done a soft reset of the system, and I'll check if this happens again. I am still waiting to hear from BYD, but I'll address all the above with them. You've been very helpful and I much appreciate your responses.

Sorry, I don't understand your message. As I mentioned above, this is my experience with the car, nothing personal. If it costs 10k or 100k, for sure, no one wants to have issues just 10 days after they got the car? I had cars cheaper than this with fewer problems; I am asking the community if anyone else has had the same experience. There is a reason why I didn't go for an RR, but I don't want to spend 40k and be "happy" for the next 3 years. Clearly, I am moody as I have mixed feelings. Love the car (that's why I chose this model and brand), but I don't want to keep it parked or in a garage. And trust me, I have driven MANY different cars and brands.

😂 🚗 The New Relationship Upgrade Hahaha, so the big reveal is that Mr. 'No-Feelings' just put a ring on it! 😂 Of course, you're terrified this isn't one of those casual rides you're used to! Congrats! Now that you've secured the official paperwork, it's time to exchange that signature moody scowl for a bouquet of happiness! You're worried about a future with her, but complaining about the thread count of your towels? Pick a struggle! You can't be planning a wedding and a pity party over minor issues at the same time! Listen, being truly in love is a whole new operating system. You need to learn to adapt and quickly ditch those old, outdated habits of emotional distance and minor-issue obsession. Think of your old ways as they were fine for casual riding , but your new life requires the speed, stability, and emotional processing power of a brand new system

SpotEuphoric 2025-11-18 19:40

I think you got a lemon, or maybe significantly outdated SW. I have a Seal U EV for the last 12 months, apart from some minor issues in suspension and occasional squeeking sounds from sun-roof, it has been problem free. I'd recommend you to visit your dealer

Supersaiyan_IV 2025-11-18 21:49

Orange lights: happens when there's ice on the road, or other conditions making ACC impossible. Have you tried reading what the orange lights are telling you? Because a part of me is thinking that you shouldn't own a car if you can't understand what it's telling you. ACC: it has its quirks, and "slows down" etc. but I can always step on throttle to compensate for that. One thing I hate about it however is when it emergency breaks for no reason. Can happen at 30km/h when doing a 90 degree turn, swiveling past stationary vehicles entering road. It could have been better with more expensive LIDAR, but still not too bad. Auto-high beam: The one time this happened to me, I had actually accidentally changed the high-beam mode when using the blinker. Then it was in high-beam on the highway, and as you say, the truck flash lights on you. I'm still not sure whether I accidentally changed it, or whether the auto high-beam mode got stuck. Overall, I'm really happy with my Seal U DM-i Comfort!

What update is parking Sensors fixed? like in number 2506 or what

ClassroomIcy4717 2025-11-19 05:13

Ai generated ahh speech

zzay 2025-11-19 18:02

I have mine for 4 months Agree with most. ACC is ok, better than the Nissan Leaf I drove. But agree with the overtake issue, it's serious. Radio reception is the worst. The antenna is worthless. In Portugal there's no DAB so the issue is huge. Parking sensors: I believe the issue is that they come up to late. They should engange if velocity is below 10kph like other brands do.

Skinsbama 2025-11-20 08:40

Thanks for your reply; it's exactly how I feel, and it's disappointing. Most of the reviews before buying were great, and perhaps we're just not been lucky, but that's how I feel at least. And what's more disappointing for me is the customer service (at least here in Austria). Been 3 days and still no feedback from BYD, going in today, gonna park the car and they need to look at it, cos safety comes before good looks.

bob59001 2025-11-24 01:35

Here on Brazil this car is named Song Plus - the newest version seems the same that you are mentioning. Other than the things mentioned for the guys here, the ICC is deadass shit here, the system that centers the vehicle on the road is too late to react to turns and most of the times drives me off the highway, and on a straight line sometimes it decides to be at the right of the highway, and other times at the left of it, but is doing the opposite as being on the center of it, I dont know if it get better or not. I tested another ADAS L2 system from another chinese brand that sells here on Brazil, called GWM and their adas is amazing at a point that it almost drive itself, it prevently brakes for corners and it is very good driving by itself, you only need to have a hand and let the car do everything. Other than that, is being a flawless experience with the car, the silence inside of it is amazing even in highway speeds or bad roads.

zzay 2025-11-25 15:15

> Been 3 days and still no feedback from BYD, going in today, gonna park the car and they need to look at it, don't want to be that guy but I doubt they can actually fix anything... other than the radio it's all a software issue

Skinsbama 2025-11-29 19:27

You were not that guy, you are the guy lol They fixed the tyre after 3 attempts, and still no sign of a software update, even though they said they can push it. I gave up; I needed a second car for the family; I was thinking of the Dolphin, but it won't be it.

Any-Extent-3521 2025-12-07 23:28

Un which country is it ?

Skinsbama 2025-12-09 13:02

Austria

Soggy-Tonight-5659 2025-12-23 00:40

Hmm that does sound concerning. Have the issues been resolved yet? And was the parking sensor thing fixed after the via usb software update like someone mentioned in this thread? I was looking into getting this car and saw only positive reviews online. That’s why checking on here to get a fuller picture. Thanks for sharing your experience here though.

Skinsbama 2026-01-05 23:13

Sorry mate, I was travelling, and I think I missed your message. I finally had the update, booked through the BYD dealer a few weeks later. I have the latest version of the software, but apart from the visuals, there were not many changes to the car's behaviour. The sensors and the cruise control work the same way. I have seen that there is a new version of software that adjusts the ACC, but it is only for the Sealion, I was told. Is not ideal, I guess you have to live with it. The tyre pressure was finally fixed; it was an issue with the new tyre, they didn't see it (nor checked) at first. For the money, is a lot of car, you get a lot of equipment, is comfy, large, easy to drive. Consumption is OK I personally like the large screen, but it is not perfect, and I'd wait a few years before final judgment. Again, for a similar car, you probably need to spend much more. Did you get it at the end? Or what did you buy?

Soggy-Tonight-5659 2026-01-06 08:14

I see. Thank you for update mate, it’s really helpful. I intend to get either this BYD or a 2 year old Cupra Leon Sportstourer PHEV, but at the end of the winter, so in April.

Soggy-Tonight-5659 2026-01-06 11:11

By the way, how much electric range do you get in these winter days on the Seal 6? I was curious if their figures are accurate, especially in the winter

FeedLanky6760 2026-02-17 09:35

Hi I had a tear on my front seat ..about 4 inches long ..a defect .dealer fixed it under warranty .now my emergency braking comes on randomly .very scary .dealer done a diagnostic check .found no issues .this is not right .it's still doing it .I now turn emergency braking off in the adas settings , they charged me £162 for nothing .not happy .I've cleaned every sensor I can find .any ideas please .

Sea-Lettuce-5998 2026-02-17 13:40

This guy talks like nobody loves him

Sea-Lettuce-5998 2026-02-17 13:44

I have compared the BYD and the MG HS PHEV. The features on the BYD are plenty. If you take the luxury line of the MG HS… you get a stronger motor and a bigger battery with a 100-120 km range. It really depends what you want. Both are amazing cars. Same segment and promise a lot of bang for buck.

Skinsbama 2026-02-23 11:22

I'm sorry to hear about your issue. Tear on the seat already doesn't sound great. I also paid when I had my repairs done. The car has been OK since; I like many things about it, but I get frustrated when I have to drive on highways as the ADAS are the worst ever. I don't get the random emergency breaking like you; once I had the car almost stopped because it thought there was something in front but that happened only once. I hope they can fix it for you, but my experience with BYD customer service has been disappointing. They sell you the car but they don't show interest in your issues once you have it.
