Pulled the trigger on a Seal Premium

jofesb | 2025-11-16 06:04 | 10 views

This weekend we've pulled the trigger and put a deposit on the Seal premium in Atlantis Grey. I didn't get any extras on top of that (to the frustration of the sales guy). Was that a wise move? I always hear that the dealer extras should be avoided. I'm also keen to hear if anyone else is waiting for theirs at the moment. I'm a little worried because I really want the $3,000 cashback, but I was told there will be a bit of a wait for it, and I don't want to miss the 31st Jan cutoff. I've never bought a new car before, so have no idea what to expect with delivery times. Also would be keen to hear from people who have their what the overall process is from here. I've been told I'll get a VIN allocated in a few days, but no idea what happens after that.

A few people at work bought the same model and their wait time was 4-6 weeks. Might depend on how lucky you are with regards to what stock is already on the vessel coming in, however the dealer should have been able to check and advise? Colour might factor in too as they went for black and white which is very popular, so there was unallocated stock coming in.

4-6 weeks would be great. As long as I receive it before the end of Jan is all I care about. The sales guy did mention the colour we wanted was the most popular right now so would have the longest wait (tried to get me to change the colour, but unfortunately the rest of the family only wanted that colour). He also said 4-6 weeks, but not sure if he was just telling me what I wanted to hear.

Factory mats are said to be very good, everything else is just heavily marked up stuff provided by a local contractor (tint, paint protection etc). Rubbertree mats are 👌 if you don't go genuine.

Don't feel guilty about not buying extras, dealers don't feel guilty about overcharging. We got floor mats from Rubbertree. Aus company and they have a range of materials, fit is perfect. Also a bunch of stuff from TopBYD website.

they told me it was going to take 6 weeks and it took like 1.5 for me... same car as yours. good car i love it.

Rubbertree for floor mats are the way to go. The rest is just a rip off by the dealer. If you want that stuff, source it yourself. The only thing the dealer does is add convenience for a large mark-up.

How long ago was that? What do you think of the range? Getting anywhere near the 570 advertised?

It's a great car. I got the Atlantis Grey as well. It took the roughly 8 weeks for mine to be delivered. I had a similar offer which was 4% off if delivered before the 1st of November and I got it on the 29th of October. Love the color honestly. I didn't get mats and I got some good ones from Amazon for the Seal which was a perfect fit. Around $150. I had the car for a couple of days without mats and the fabric lining felt too nice to spoil (friends with wet shoes after the Sydney rains) so my advice is to get mats ASAP so you have them ready on day 1. I got the car ceramic coated (only dealer extra I got + tint because I feel naked withoit tint) because I only have street parking under the sun and didn't want to risk any discolouration in the long term. I'm getting decent range. Nothing close to 570km, around 450-480km which is good enough for a whole week of work and back and grocery runs. I haven't run into any charging issues yet so that's good. I plug it in the public DC charger when I do my grocery run which is enough charge for a few days. Keep charge between 30-80% for long term battery health. 100% only before road trips. You'll love the car. The comfort and feel when driving is amazing.

That was cutting it pretty close with the delivery! I bet that would have been nerve-racking! Good advice on the matts. I'll make sure to have them ready to go straight in. Any recommendations where and what to get? The tint was the only thing I considered getting from the dealer, but still declined out of fear of getting ripped off. I'll probably have to get some advice on where to get that done after I get the car. That's a little dissapointing about the range. I would have thought day-to-day you'd get over 500km, and maybe 450km on a road trip. Just to add a bit more about the process: They told me the VIN was allocated first. Then a couple of weeks later they said that the car is being shipped from the Supplier to the distributor. The distributor did some checks and then send them to my local dealer for delivery which took about another 2 weeks. Once at the dealership, I could pick the car up the same day. My handover was at BYD Haberfield. They confirmed delivery around 12pm and I could pick the car up around 3pm. A 5 minute walk around and ID check and I was on my way. I expected the ceramic and tinting to be done pre-delivery but unfortunately BYD would release the car to a third-party company (MotorOne) so I had to use a work day to get that done.

I feel im a bit Heavy footed on the acceleration. Still on the honeymoon phase. I reckon that if I do drive it normally Ill get over 500km easily.

chocopanda1997 2025-11-16 20:56

It was quite nerve wracking. Inital delivery date was 30th of October and I read online of people who had delays. But the dealership did me a solid and delivered it a day earlier by the 29th of October. I got these mats from Amazon. Perfect fit. [Amazon mats](https://amzn.asia/d/10XiEqN)

Thanks, this is helpful to know about the process

Sweet-Ad2579 2025-11-17 00:54

I am getting 18.4kwh/100km (according to the app) - i do mostly highway (110kmhr) i live in the country. Plus I don't take it out of sport mode and I drive like it is stolen. :D So that is probably one of the worst results one can get. It maths out to a range of 449kms. I've never let the battery go under 40% tho and charge at home for free from the solar....

Sweet-Ad2579 2025-11-17 01:00

electric cars are most efficient at slower speeds - the wind resistance is what kills the range more than anything. I will get 12kw/km at 70km/hr speeds vs 22kw/km at 110km/hr. (for example not sure on exact numbers)

For any kind of Ceramic Coat or Window Tint, take it to an actual company that does it. We have alot of brand new BYDs come through our shop that we are consistently removing the "ceramix" tint off the windows, replacing it with an actual decent product, and then having to remove all the ceramic coating, so we can remove all the factory and transportation scratches, swirl marks, iron deposits, then it will get re-ceramic coated. (All of this is cheaper than BYD doing it btw) I mean I get it - heaps easier doing it all through the lease setup and stuff, I guess it just comes downs to your expectations as an owner. I've been doing this now for almost 20 years, and its a damn shame to see how the quality of workmanship and attention to detail has declined so much over the past 5 to 10 years when it comes to all the hands that touch your car before you get your key.

You're not in South East Qld by any chance? Or if not, know someone who is?
