Congrats. Tossing between Performance and Premium. Definitely Premium is a sweet spot financially but Performance buys a smile (for $10k) .Can I ask why you went for a Premium?

Rogue01aus 2025-08-06 14:47

Go Performance. No one regrets getting the Performance. Smiles on tap.

Jaysmack1 2025-08-06 14:53

Congrats!!

I have one on order in this colour, I haven’t seen it on the seal in person though! Any more pics?

No_History55 2025-08-06 15:27

Leaning towards one. Only test drove Performance, the 'sinking feeling' 0-100km/h when it pushes you in, is definitely there. Unfortunately, none of our local stealership has Premium to drive to compare. Missus is coming off modest 232kW RWD but better handling, hence thinking Premium might he sufficient. Nevertheless had the biggest smile testing Performance. Unbelievable value for money, unbelievable joy like a kid. I reckon might be worth it. Decisions, decisions...

UnfortunatelySimple 2025-08-06 17:26

The performance has the extra safety of the AWD... Or at least that's the justification I made up, and I don't regret it. Haha 😄

red_dragin 2025-08-06 21:00

Range and tyre wear seem to be the only factors I've seen people unhappy with, when owning a performance. Range is obvious upfront, but the amount of people going "my tyres only lasted 15,000km, why?" isn't uncommon. I went the Premium because it's plenty quick enough and the longer range. I'm at 23,xxx km with probably another 10k left in the tyres. Seeing pretty even wear, mixture of highway and sport mode. It's been suggested multiple times on the Facebook group that the wheel alignment from factory is hit and miss, this could be a contributing factor in the tyre wear issues too. Mine has had an alignment at about 12k km.

Joshstevo88 2025-08-06 21:29

Mainly cost vs distance for me. The extra power would be fun for sure, but im a bit older and wiser now (36) and realised i dont need that much power and i will benefit more from the extra distance.

No_History55 2025-08-06 21:45

Cheers for the reply, I'm older than you, seems not any wiser 🙃. Did you have a chance to drive both? My rational side is saying, there is not much difference, my put a smile side is saying - 'let's pull a trigger'.

No_History55 2025-08-06 21:54

Unfortunately anything sporty, tyres are being chewed, tbh don't expect anything else from the Seal - weight doesn't help. Yes, read the same thing about the alignment but it seems to be a common problem with BYD, regardless of the model. Any other issues? Stories about dealing with BYD customer service is the only thing which stops me now.

Joshstevo88 2025-08-06 22:00

Totally understand! This still puts a smile on my face, i didnt drive the performance (i may have been tempted if i did tbh!) But yeah i had to listen to my rational side, that much power isnt for me, i would burn through charges (and tires) no doubt!

Joshstevo88 2025-08-06 22:08

Im getting the front windows tinted and ceramic protection done tomorrow, ill be sure to take some more pics then, in full daylight.

5151771 2025-08-06 22:30

Keen!

EsotericComment 2025-08-06 23:59

I went with Premium for insurance and better range mainly. No regrets at all - I don't think you miss out on much. The '25 Premium also gets frequency selective dampening (FSD) which was only on the performance in earlier years. On insurance, a few refused to insure a Seal in general and I found even more didn't want to insure the performance Seal. The ones that would insure a performance quoted a lot higher (like 30% more).

red_dragin 2025-08-07 00:51

Only other 'issue' was the brake light switch needed adjusting, dealer reported they'd seen a couple. Wasn't coming on soon enough after pushing the pedal. Five minute fix. Most solidly built car I've owned. My Dealership has been great (North Lakes, QLD).

Watanabe18482 2025-08-07 05:12

Does it make seal 🦭 sounds as you get in?

Joshstevo88 2025-08-07 05:14

Na but i do!

No_History55 2025-08-07 09:56

Thanks for this, appreciated. Talking to more and more owners seems there is no major dramas.

No_History55 2025-08-07 09:57

Cheers, looked at the few insurance options already but for the Performance only. Will need to compare properly.

CasualJan 2025-08-07 23:56

I have a MY25 Performance in Brisbane. In my journeys around the internet, I found that Woollies to be the most reasonable in terms of insurance premium and Ts & Cs. I put my findings here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BYDSealAus/comments/1k943l3/2025_seal_performance_insurance_quotes/

CasualJan 2025-08-07 23:57

I had the same thought. I'm also older and not wiser. You know those Youtube videos where the acceleration of a car makes the passengers squeal? The Performance does that. (Good thing is that it's not always on - the full power is only available when drive mode is set to "Sport")

Rodza81 2025-08-08 04:13

Congratz. I have a performance on order. The wait is painful but hopefully will be worth it.

Joshstevo88 2025-08-08 04:53

Im sure it will be! I love this thing, and can only imagine the extra fun of 390kw!

Joshstevo88 2025-08-08 07:49

Here you go! Tint and paint protection done! Would have been nice if the sun was out, but can't have everything!

magnumopus44 2025-08-09 07:09

What was that wait from order to delivery ?

Joshstevo88 2025-08-09 07:10

Im in Cairns. Took 1.5 weeks. They said they had a few in this colour in brisbane.

5151771 2025-08-09 10:40

Solid! what % tint is that? do they only do the front because of the privacy glass?

5151771 2025-08-09 10:40

from signing the email to delivery or in total? I'm told 2-3months in nsw!

Joshstevo88 2025-08-09 12:00

35% (darkest legal in qld) and yes only front because the rear is privacy glass. Would be nice to match darkness but its not too far off.

Joshstevo88 2025-08-09 12:02

Yeah from placing the deposit to collection. Would have been faster too, but apparently they sent up a performance accidentally the 1st time. Sorry to hear you have to wait. Tell them to check brisbanes stock.

Joshstevo88 2025-08-09 12:03

Side note: they did tell me 2-3 months for black*

No_History55 2025-08-09 15:53

I was hoping 'Premium' does the same for less $$$ 🙃. Unfortunately, seems in my neck of the woods, 'Performance' is a stealership choice of marketing. Actually, Missus was going to test drive it, was impressed just looking inside, but the car was given as a service car to someone, so we had to rebook. Decisions, decisions- Happy Wife Happy Life or $10k in a pocket. Funny enough did the homework re insurance and there is bugger all difference for us.

[deleted] 2025-08-10 04:15

No to China!!

vicious-muggle 2025-08-10 07:40

I’d be keen to know how it performs on a run up the gillies.

Joshstevo88 2025-08-10 07:56

Me too, ill have to test it out one weekend soon! No doubt get stuck behind a truck or slow tourist though.

Icefeldt 2025-08-10 20:57

It's not even the "sporty" thing, but EVs in general are "tire eaters", because of their weight a and high torque. Both things which will put more strain on the tires in comparison to non-EV cars.

Icefeldt 2025-08-10 20:59

FYI: The manual mentions a "drive in period" of 2000km. Just that you are aware off. ... Personally I'm "not flooring it" until 1000km and only have been driving in Eco-Mode until now (734km in)

Sweet-Ad2579 2025-10-11 01:35

I was wondering the same thing but the premium in sports mode is still 'wrx at the redline fast'. After i gave it some during my test drive i decided ignorance is bliss and it has more than enough power... the extra range will be more useful vs the extra speed.

Rodza81 2025-10-11 13:27

Update: 390kw isnt fun....its actually scary. The g force alone makes you body feel squished into the seat when you floor it from traffic lights or while attempting a sub3.8second 0-100km launch. This has also taken 100% of the fun out of my 400cc Ninja motorcycle. I will need to go s1000rr or higher to have any fun now.

Joshstevo88 2025-10-12 01:57

Haha fair enough! Im happy with the power/torque of the mid spec. Plenty good enough, i think i would be yhe same, too much power, id either never use it properly or do something stupid, no in between.

Rodza81 2025-10-12 06:32

You are gonna love the car regardless. The interior is amazing. The digital systems and customizability of the screens is great (have barely scratched the surface) and the boot space is plenty fine. BYD has nailed not only the product but the price point. Only thing they may want to do in the near future is make batteries with higher energy storage capacity....and preferably backwards compatible units cause thats the one thing I would spend some serious $$ on to extend the range of my current vehicle. I know they are working on a blade 2 battery but having double to triple the range of the current vehicle would be well worth it.

No_History55 2025-10-21 07:02

Went and got a Sealion 7 at the end, Premium - bit disappointed with myself, but happy wife, happy life.

Sweet-Ad2579 2025-10-21 08:23

the sealion is slightly nicer inside to be fair... i've actually had two women come up to me in car parks and compliment the car which is something that has never happened before getting the seal

No_History55 2025-10-21 09:14

I prefer the steering wheel from Seal tbh. At the end the choice was between Y and Sealion... she went for SL. No more 'honey can you fill it up for me, please' ....
