Seal performance 2025

JackfruitExact525 | 2025-05-20 10:00 | 20 views

Hey mates, I was looking at buying seal performance 2025 and was really impressed by its features. However, after some research I found out that Australian version is missing out some key features such as lidar, fast charging, premium sound system, rear cross traffic alerts. And now I am confused about whether I should wait a little bit Or I should just buy previous models from marketplace and save initial depreciation cost if the features aren't much different Anyone in the same boat or any views ..?

2025 has a number of decent upgrades over the 2024 (and earlier) ie better suspension, electric roof liner... for me the ugpraded suspension is enough to buy the 2025...

So jealous !

crispy_gooner 2025-05-20 11:20

I have the 2025 (3 weeks old) and absolutely love it so far. I don’t care about Lidar and my home wall charger can’t charge any faster anyway, sound system is amazing however it does feel like it’s limited at a “loud enough” type setting by the software, wish it could be louder.

JackfruitExact525 2025-05-20 12:10

Sound system is one of my concern, coming from audi sound system, it feels like a downgrade.. Yes I agree, some features might not be handy for us, but I am also thinking from the depreciation perspective, if 5 months down the line My25, BYD adds all those features, 2025 will be heavily depreciated ? No?

JackfruitExact525 2025-05-20 12:12

Makes sense, although I am just thinking if 6 months down the line we get all those features and 2025 will feel like old gen and lose a lot of resale value

crispy_gooner 2025-05-20 12:15

Im coming from a 2024 BMW sound system and the Seal’s is better, Dyna-Audio is no joke. These things depreciate like crazy regardless

2niteshow 2025-05-20 12:48

I couldn't even wait for the sealion 7 so I got the first shipment of seal in Dec 23. Lol love the car. My most expensive to date. I keep my cars till they die so never worry about depreciation.

RandomMagnet 2025-05-20 13:07

we wont, not in the short term lidar, new dash, etc are all China destined cars only. the current seal will probably run for the next 12 months, MAYBE there will be an update MY26 release, but you will need to wait until probably March/April to actually receive it. there is always something better over the horizon...

Not sure where you got the info about rear cross traffic alert being missing. It's listed on the BYD website here: https://bydautomotive.com.au/brochures/BYD-SEAL-2025.pdf Had my Seal Performance for about 3 weeks now, and have definitely had it go off. I did test drive the MY24 Performance model, and the Di-SuS C system on the MY25 makes a noticeable difference. You do lose the previous model's treated glass roof with the inclusion of the electric roof shade though. The Dynaudio system is excellent.

Those features are mostly excluded as Australian chargin / regulations don't support them yet so they wont be coming soon. I was going to wait, decided against it - just not worth it.

meatpak 2025-05-20 22:09

When I was originally looking at a WRX before settling for a Seal Performance, I was the same....waiting for the next model. If I did that, I'd never buy anything. With the Seal, I understood that Disus-C was coming, so I held out for that and ordered a 25 Performance. The development of these cars happen fast, so if you're waiting for the perfect time to buy one, that time will never come. Besides, I'm coming from a 17yo V8 with 420,000k on the clock, so anything is an upgrade for me. 👌

JackfruitExact525 2025-05-21 00:14

I am actually going to test drive both seal and sealion 7🤞

JackfruitExact525 2025-05-21 00:15

Thanks for the info, I feel like lidar/fast charging is the major update. Btw, how long did it take to be delivered?

JackfruitExact525 2025-05-21 00:16

Booked the test drive for this weekend 🙌 let's see

CasualJan 2025-05-21 00:48

Order went in March 22nd. Picked up the car on May 3. (Ordered at the Fortitude Valley dealer, fwiw)

JackfruitExact525 2025-05-21 01:19

Thanks

Rasta-Revolution 2025-05-21 01:40

Go for the seal 7

2niteshow 2025-05-21 02:17

Let me.kmow if there's any major differences

JackfruitExact525 2025-05-21 02:26

Do you mean sealion 7 ? Then I will miss 0-100 in 3.8 secs 😅 Anything in particular which makes sealion 7 a better choice?

JackfruitExact525 2025-05-21 02:28

Will do

Rasta-Revolution 2025-05-21 02:32

Upgraded suspension compared to sedan

Numerous-Implement47 2025-05-21 06:30

Bonus -get to keep your license 😀 I got Seal Premium, plenty enough for me, and I swear I wouldn't have my license if I got the Performance. Get a bit more range also.

JackfruitExact525 2025-05-21 09:28

Haha, true. But I want to look into the eyes of AMG drivers on red lights 😅

santz007 2025-05-21 17:22

None of the BYD seals outside of China have LIDAR. And even the ones in China that do have it only on the newer facelifted models which will probably show up in the rest of the world as 2026 models. Point being, it's not just you, we are all in this together

OutrunPilot 2025-05-21 21:45

Imagine you wait a year for this lidar upgrade and they don't work as you imagined... Will this wait br worth it?

Numerous-Implement47 2025-05-22 05:05

In all seriousness tho, I feel like I've seen posts on here before around insurance and the like and being more costly and difficult to find providers.

SexyDraenei 2025-05-26 23:49

lidar won't be coming to aus soon. it def has DC fast charging, would be utter garbage without. Are you perhaps referring to the lack of 3phase AC charging? Thats totally irrelevant. Single phase 7kw is more than adequate for all your home charging needs. all trims in aus have the "DYNAUDIO premium sound system with 12 speakers" and "Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)" Don't know where you are getting your info, but it sure isn't [The official brochure](https://bydautomotive.com.au/brochures/BYD-SEAL-2025.pdf)

SexyDraenei 2025-05-26 23:50

> onus -get to keep your license I came >< this close to blowing mine in the premium.

Numerous-Implement47 2025-05-27 02:07

Yeah me too! When first got it burned past slow car in 70 zone doing 50...didn't realise I'd go up to 100 so fast, and speed cam car further down road. Not sure why it didn't pick me up!

SexyDraenei 2025-05-27 13:11

I got clocked at 129 on the highway doing an overtake. only kept my license because they put it down as 124

DiligentReflection72 2025-06-08 16:11

does the 2025 Seal Dynamic have Lidar?

crispy_gooner 2025-06-08 22:03

No, that’s yet to be released in Australia

DiligentReflection72 2025-06-10 17:27

okay thanks, I just pre ordered mine yesterday!

crispy_gooner 2025-06-10 21:48

You’re gonna love it

GodzillazAnus 2025-06-18 15:09

Late reply, but can you elaborate briefly on the sound system? Does it have good soundstage? Are the highs clear or tinny? Do the lows rumble nicely or is it muddy?

crispy_gooner 2025-06-18 21:35

Its a great sound stage, they do an amazing job at that, the sub gives great bass, just wish it could be louder overall, at max volume its about 70% of other sound system volumes ive heard

Positive_Cicada4917 2025-06-26 11:16

there'll always be new features around the corner. If that prevents you from pulling the trigger you'll never get one. I picked my Black Performance up yesterday. Do I care it doesn't have the new super duper flim flam flux capacitor? I did, until I put my foot down and woah......... nah don't care any more

Lumenatti99 2025-07-02 05:46

You can’t keep up. Prices drop, features change and increase. Just have to suck it up and take the severe depreciation and lack of the newest features when we buy now!

Positive_Cicada4917 2025-07-05 13:49

I've had the Seal Performance for 2 weeks. Sound system especially via Android Auto (BT) is pretty meh. I havent tinkered with the settings yet

No-Departure-3047 2026-01-09 03:24

Sorry for thread necro but I'm trying to decide between WRX and Seal Performance - did you take delivery of the Seal yet? How does it rate?

meatpak 2026-01-09 04:26

I'm 4 months in and no regrets. Sure, the Seal has its quirks and annoyances, but doesn't every car?

No-Departure-3047 2026-01-09 12:29

Thank you, this helps a lot!
