Which would you rather? Model 3 RWD vs Seal Premium vs Seal Performance - Australia

FancyMoose9401 | 2025-04-23 22:31 | 10 views

Hi all, Keen to know thoughts. I'm yet to test drive a Seal but will be next week. I previously owned a 2022 Tesla Model 3, sold earlier this year due to moving to Australia. In Australia (rounded): - Model 3 RWD is 60k drive away - Seal premium is 56k drive away - Seal performance is 65.5k drive away Best range is the premium. Performance has same range as the 3 RWD but faster. A few things I loved about my old Tesla that are lessened or absent in the Seal: - One pedal driving - Better software - Better after sale support - Matrix LED headlights - Sound system I'm of a mind to avoid another Tesla (though I loved the car), but am struggling! PS I know this is a BYD sub and might be biased, but still keen to hear.

Test drive the seal and see if you like it.

I drove a model 3 for a few days, about three years ago. Absolutely sold me on EV power trains. But the steering felt 'disconnected' I guess. Found it vague to drive. I've found the Seal much more conventional in its handling, which is interesting, as the suspension geometry is basically a copy of the Model 3. I've seen the Seal described as a great first EV, not too much of a change from an ICE. And I'd agree with that statement. It's easy enough to drive that you can put anyone in the driver's seat and go "indicators are on the right" and they can just drive it. I own a premium.

For the last one it really depends on yourself and the people you care about the opinions of who'll see you in it. You won't get keyed or anything but your LGBT friends might not want a ride

I drove a model Y when visiting family in Sydney a couple of years ago. Good to drive, but too reliant on doing things through the screen. Hopping into the Seal for me was more familiar with a few buttons to play with. I got my Seal through a novated lease package at work and am extremely happy with it. The drive, the comfort and the get up and go it has. There is not a single ounce of regret in choosing the Seal over the M3

I test drove all of these and I've gone with the Seal Premium. Deposit is down, it's now just a waiting game. Loved the Performance, but I don't want to go to jail. The premium made the most sense to me in the end and it's well priced.

I got seal Premium last year. Didn't need to extra acceration or heated steering wheel on the performere, and felt the Seal looked better than the Teslas. If buying now I would consider the Sealion 7.

3 things you love about Tesla is the 3 things you’re gonna hate about BYD. One pedal driving, software, after sale support. Be careful.

not going to see many answers in favour of Tesla round here. the premium is plenty fast.

I've got a Seal Premium and would highly recommend. I test drove the Preformance. An absolute blast, but no 'needs' that much power. I'd say the extra range is more useful and the Premium is no slouch either.

You’re asking in a byd seal reddit so most will probs be more keen on the seal, but they are both great cars Go drive both Both have pros and cons The Tesla has great software, support etc But I wasn’t a fan of the minimalist interior

Anhvariel 2025-04-24 05:05

drove my brother's m3, really didn't like the minimalist interior. No stalks, no instrument cluster, no hud. Hud is something that I think is really useful now that i've used it, because my speed is always in field of view. glancing down at instrument cluster is ok, didn't like having to check speed on centre screen with model 3. Seal interior is easily superior to Tesla. I personally haven't found a whole lot that Telsa software does that's better or absent from Seal. Maybe I just didn't get enough time to see everything the m3 software can do, but the fundamentals (GPS, audio, phone, settings) in Seal are really good for my usage.

Do not buy an Ev in Australia!! Resale value is ZERO. No second hand market exists for EVs, nobody wants them new, nobody wants them second hand. Even dealers don’t want them.

FancyMoose9401 2025-04-24 09:13

Yeah I sold my Model 3 in NZ for peanuts lol Sucks. It's also super stupid, because it's just due to paranoid sentiment

2niteshow 2025-04-25 11:53

It's like going in to mcdonalds asking if people there like maccas

FancyMoose9401 2025-04-25 12:03

I know lol Iposted in electricvehicles but they removed it Also though, I had a model 3 and so I already know Teslas are difficult to beat Tesla reddit are 10x more an echo chamber than here, so I won't bother with them

2niteshow 2025-04-25 16:32

People buy Tesla cos it's like having an iPhone for social status. I don't like them. BYD has functions like a regular car, no bullshit door handles, closed system, lower price point.

omgitzrick 2025-04-26 12:53

Tested all 3 and bought a Seal Premium. Three months in and I love it.

betajool 2025-04-26 22:18

Ignore this. “Nobody wants them new” just tells us that this person doesn’t want one. And nothing else.

Probs got removed as attract all the trolls mate. While you probs get a bias here for BYD, ppl seem a lil calmer. If you want an EV that feels like a ice car, with driving features then BYD is the go. I know ppl rave about Tesla software but aside from App being better, and the route planner, you shouldn't be looking and fiddling with the screen while driving. That's why ppl get HUD and Driver displays. From my experience with Mates M3 LR, the voice recognition wasn't as good neither. Not to mention the sensors, he reversed into his missus car on dark night and it didn't phantom breaking then (but he whinges it does other times for nothing) As most will say here, the Seal looks better, first day i had it some old mate random asked me what it was and said unlike Tesla it looks the goods, but he'd never buy an EV. I don't think really you can wrong with either, but for me personally everything in design and driver functionality on Seal was better. Tesla seem to be focusing all the work on self driving which may never see the light of day here. Each to their own ofcourse.
