Thats attrocious.
Do you use the heated wheel function?
How are you "holding it wrong"?
Have you used any products on it?
Is the wheel actually real leather? Or is it PU?

Have you tried not to hold it?

Their after sales service is horrendous. I have a paint bubble on my front bumper that they say is a stone chip. Tried explaining to them how paint adhesion works but weren't having it. They should do a better job employing people who have thoughts between their ears.

I think it falls under the new bs leather definition. It's leather bonded to pu.

There's been several reports of similar issues on the FB Aussie Seal Group. From memory I'm sure a couple of them have had it repaired under warranty.
I've also seen the same happen to some Telsa cars, again in the FB Aussie Tesla Owners Group.
Seems like a common issue with modern manufacturing and production using these types of material.

BYD service is horrible; ive got a few small problems and its like they dont care.. maybe they don't make much money on warranty work/don't want to do it.. idk but how can they say its from how you hold it..

Tesla seem to replace far more things, and give a shit.

Yeah I've noticed BYD after sales support has a lot of room for improvement.
I don't own a BYD Seal yet but waiting to take delivery, hopefully the service centres in Adelaide are better than the ones on the eastcoast.

Maybe used the heater a few times when it was new at the end of last winter.
It's just a cop out for them to say no warranty.
The advisor mentioning how i hold it, is the cause, was mind blowing.

3 words.. Australian Consumer Law.
I ignore warranties. They can't limit your rights in the ACL. I say "up to you how you progress this - as a warranty or ACL claim, but that's a matter for you, not me. I'm relying on my ACL rights"
Regardless of warranty, has to be fit for purpose. If they didn't provide any specific instructions on what products/use will impact on the quality and longevity of the "leather", then it's on them.

Where in the owners manual does it tell you how to hold it?!

Hate it when a nice product is ruined by crappy after sales. Issues are bound to happen on a mass produced item, but it’s all about how a company decides to treat their customers when it does happen. It’s annoying how we need to “push” for things under consumer law or they will just fob us off. We have a Seal Premium around 35k+ also with the “leather” steering wheel (base Dynamic has faux leather) and it’s been holding up so definitely shouldn’t be doing this after only 20k.

Unless the manual shows you a specific way, you have to hold it to keep it within warranty, they haven't got a leg to stand on.
It'll be covered under warranty. If not with the dealership you're dealing with right now, go to another one.

Just set adas up and press the cruise button....no steering wheel required lol
Nah in all honestly that looks like significant wear.....try getting a custom wrap to cover the wheel and prevent further wear on it.
