Seal HUD out of focus

beejamine | 2025-02-04 07:29 | 14 views

Wondering if anyone had similar issue or any suggestions what could be causing it. Had a cracked windscreen replaced today and have now noticed the HUD is a little blurry and out of focus I've had to set the angle all the way to the right to make it straight and raise it up higher than previous. If I lower the HUD it compresses the lettering. All of this was completely fine and normal prior to having windscreen glass replaced. Glass is made for the seal and has all correct camera cut outs, is acoustic glass etc. I'm concerned angle of glass could be slightly different? Or maybe HUD camera on dash has been knocked when glass being installed?

Sounds like there may be curvature on the glass causing a lens effect. It may need a correction to the HUD unit to compensate. I know with a lot of windscreens due to sensors etc there needs to be a calibration not just as simple as in the old days of setting the glass in. Maybe reach out to BYD directly and ask if they can recalibrate the HUD.

Pretty sure the HUD is just a screen reflection so it's not a focussing issue. Just guessing but maybe they installed a base model non-hud windscreen so it's missing a reflective layer?

Driving it back to the windscreen place to have it looked at. Also, I noticed a wind turbulence noise at any speed above 70 kmh that wasn't there previous, so definitely some issue going on. BYD said they haven't had any reported issues with windscreen replacements from this company and it is their recommended repairer.

How much did it cost?

Luckily have a pretty comprehensive insurance that does windscreen glass with no claim.

Windscreen company doing a return on the installed glass. Is manufactured by an Australian company and used instead of OEM. They have had some similar issues with BMW replacement glass. Company will replace now with the stock BYD oem part. Obviously there's a very minor difference, they said even 1 - 2 mm can effect it.

Just in case anyone stumbles upon this thread. Having OEM glass fitted as replacement fixed issue. Clearly minor flaw or slight angle difference with non oem glass.

I just picked up mine in Perth and noticed the same issue….. Really annoyed. I’ve been playing with the HUD settings, and I think it’s a bit better now. But need to go for another drive… Waited almost a month for stock to come in, and now I’m left with this…

Was it oem stock you waited for? I chucked in all the updates here figuring other people will have the same problem. Fitting proper byd glass fixed all mine.

No it wasn’t… I’m going to call them tomorrow and let them know. I’ve also noticed the piece they used, doesn’t have the vin number slot, so that’s now covered up… so clearly not made precisely…. Fingers crossed it’s a simple fix to get the oem

Should be just an annoying wait probably

I’ve been pretty fortunate. I called Obrien on Monday. Tuesday they called me and said they’ll arrange for a genuine screen to be order. I’ve now had confirmation and it’s booked in for install on 5 April. So hopefully it’s simple from there and no more issues
