What's your Seal model, MY, price you paid, date of purchase and grants/discounts received if any?

I'll go first. Seal Premium (New MY24) DOP: 01/08/2024 Price paid: 58K Grant received: 6K (QLD) Discounts: Full rego cost covered by the dealer, worth 1.5k Although Seal prices dropped in FY25, there were no rego discount so at best I would've saved $2000, not really mad about this just something I noticed. My Chinese friend who bought Atto for his wife bargained and got a 3k discount on top of $6000 QLD grant. How much did you pay for yours?

Sorry if I ask, but, what is the point of a price comparison after purchasing a vehicle?

I’m most annoyed that towbar wasn’t available on the seal last year when I bought but is now!

I know cars are depreciating assets but i'm doing this merely out of curiosity. Others who are looking to buy might wana know if company prices the car to 'beat the market' or if they are genuinely making it cheaper. From what i've seen, BYD is open to 'haggling' discounts to stop you from going to tesla or other EVs. This question is probably just a way to test this assumption. Also Im shameless when it comes to saving money. I like to learn from past purchases to understand the worth of something that I want to purchase next. Hope this makes sense

Awesome! Great color!

Wouldn't it been better to ask if anyone got any discount from the dealer, then? Considering BYD firm price policy, this information might be more useful to potential buyers. Edit. I'd love to know what discount % people got on demos, for example.

Discounts are one thing, slashing car prices are another. Discounts don't necessarily mean savings if the price is high to begin with. My initial question takes both into consideration.

Take a look at this article. [https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/chinas-byd-sets-negotiable-price-reduction-targets-suppliers-2024-11-27/](https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/chinas-byd-sets-negotiable-price-reduction-targets-suppliers-2024-11-27/)

But what is your main concern (behind the question)? Did I negotiate hard enough? Was it the best time to buy this model? Is further price slashing going to affect my resale value? Was the car I bought too expensive? And so on...

Few-Turn2845 2025-01-27 01:12

All of these are my concerns to be honest, I'm not sure if people think this way to answer such questions, maybe it's just me..But I would simply just look at the numbers, and decide for myself, same for others with totally different situation. I don't believe this post was supposed to debunk my reasoning behind asking for these figures, it was meant to be simple fact finding question that could provide potentially useful info - hard stats, for next buyers. Im surprised people don't talk much about how they've negotiated their new car price down from retail. Is this something Australians don't do ?

I didn't think the Seal (in Oz) was able to have a legal tow bar. Did I dream that, or have things changed?

2niteshow 2025-01-29 14:28

I'm sure it had a tow rating and a towbar was being worked on by an external company.

fruitloops6565 2025-01-29 19:59

Exactly. They told me it couldn’t too but it’s now listed as an option for the new model.
