Performance model updated this evening. Wireless Apple car play and a few aircon ease of use features in the update
Mine's installing now! Sitting in the garage in the dark 🤣
Thanks for posting this. You are providing better customer service than BYD Australia.
Like leaving the seat AC on between drives? I am hoping we can turn the Alert sound off for the speed signs. I want to leave the sign alert on. Just have it shut up. (Between drives)
Just updated mine now but pretty sure the button will stay in whatever state you left it in which is nice quality of life improvement. Also love that we are able to switch the sound off while keeping the system on.
Anyone else notice since the update ALL of the warning sounds are so quiet you can literally barely hear them? Mine are so quiet now even when no music is playing....???
Also the BYD mobile app now shows location :)
Wireless Apple Carplay! My SO now may consider this car.
Such a great feature, that has been enabled.
The silent speed sign alert in place for the new sealion delivered last week.
Yes, unfortunate result of BYD addressing the annoying speed warning ‘bongs’, they’ve inadvertently reduced volume of everything, including the parking sensors which are now almost inaudible. You would think that this would be a very easy fix for them to implement. Just give us a slidebar adjustment for the various warning sounds! Come on BYD, let’s have a fix for this.
Where do you think the car is getting the internet data? You can’t provide WiFi from your phone. Is this a Bluetooth tether connection or what it is? Or it is using de car’s SIM to get the data?
If using wireless Apple Carplay, an iPhone initially talks to the car's infotainment via Bluetooth and uses that to setup a WiFi connection to the infotainment system. Apple Carplay basically uses this link to extend the display to the infotainment and uses it like a second monitor on a laptop. Bluetooth is not fast enough which is why it uses WiFi. When using Carplay the apps are all running on the iPhone and using it's GPS and data, whilst the car's screen is simply acting as another touchscreen for the iPhone. Well, that's how I think it works. I personally have an Android phone and that's how it works on that. The beauty of Apple Carplay and Android Auto is that it's just like using your phone. All of your saved locations in your maps are there, all of your media apps are already signed in, all your messaging apps are ready to go. If you are security conscious, you're not giving any passwords to a device that some people may not trust.
In my case after the Bluetooth link the WiFi disconnect itself and if I try to reconnect it to the WiFi projected by my iPhone it fails and a message appears saying that I will lost CarPlay connection if I turn on WiFi. The only WiFi working here is the one that the car projects to the phone. Everything seems to work properly, so that is the reason I have doubts about what is happening.
With Android Auto, the car hosts the WiFI network and the phone connects to it like it would connect to a home network. This connection happens automatically after the Bluetooth connection is made. However, for Internet connectivity the phone is using its own SIM and the cellular network. If I muck with the WiFi connection on the phone or car whilst Android Auto is running it will drop the connection. I cannot run a hotspot on my phone whilst connected to Android Auto. I'm guessing it would work the same on the iPhone, but I could be wrong. For things like OTA updates and the built-in apps on the BYD, the BYD uses its own built-in SIM, as far as I am aware. I don't have a BYD so again, I'm just guessing from what little I know. Not having wireless Apple Carplay was a deal-breaker with my SO.
I’m glad our Seal has wireless CarPlay now but at the end of the day I’ve been using a $30 AliExpress dongle to get wireless CarPlay on my 2014 Mazda all this while, so I probably wouldn’t let something like this stop me from getting a good car.
I did research on those dongles and it seems they aren't reliable. I have an Android phone and my SO an iPhone which complicates things. I guess I would only have needed a CarPlay dongle.
