"Clumsy drivetrain calibration" WTF does that even mean? Acceleration in my Performance model is linear to pedal movement in Normal mode. Do they want it to go from 0 to 90% in the first 3mm of pedal travel to be more "responsive"? "Unpleasant steering"? Huh? Does it taste weird? Does it feel like sand in your buttcrack? Mine goes where I point it. "Unpredictable handling." Are they trying to drive it like a Golf GTi in a mountain climb? It's a 2 ton car, mine sticks to the road better than a lot of much lighter cars I've driven as long as you remember you're driving a 2 ton car. All that aside, pretty sure this is from Wheel's "Best car of the year under $80K" and excluded the performance models even though the Seal Performance is well under $80k. They just pick whoever gives them the most money, and I don't imagine BYD giving them anything. They still commented on the Seal Performance model immediately after they said they left out performance models. "There’s also enough space for four on board." Actually it's a 5 seater. Did they even test the right car?

My last 4 cars: 98 Hyundai Sonata: Complete piece of shit in every way, but I just needed a car that would get me to uni and back. When I gave it up I literally parked it in the front yard of a local barman and walked in to his pub and threw him the keys because he had expressed a vague interest at some point. 02 BA Falcon XR6: Moving up to a 6 cylinder made me feel like a king. It looked good and coming from the sonata felt like a premium car. I planned to keep it forever but it got written off by an uninsured drunk driver and as I only had 3rd party insurance, he just ignored my calls and I got nothing more than a few grand from my insurer and had to cop it sweet. 08 FG Falcon G6E Turbo: an absolute beast that I loved up until recently when the maintenance started to become constant. Not surprising at over 370,000 km but I bought it for 17k on around 2013 and expect to be able to sell it easily for 24k now. I was incredibly impressed with its handling and ability to bomb through a roundabout at 60 km/h, and ability to hit 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds (not tested, but it wouldn’t be far off). Fuel prices finally pushed me to the decision that it needs to go to a collector and not drive 600 km a week. New BYD Seal Premium: Absolute pleasure to drive, with the slight caveat that I hate having to disable the speed limit sign recognition and lane keeping features every time I turn the car on. It goes through the same roundabouts the G6 did at the same speed and other corners that I had to hit the brakes for in the Ford it cruises through without feeling in the slightest out of control. I was pleasantly surprised by this because I expected it to feel much heavier. Most importantly it has some really great tech that just two nights ago saved the life of a dipshit on a motorbike that ran a red light. It went from 64 km/h to zero seemingly instantly because he was only visible from about 5 metres away. He will never know that if he had done the same thing only two weeks ago my Ford would probably have killed him. I let a workmate who drives a late model Lexus have a drive and she was blown away by how upmarket it feels. I don’t regret the purchase in the slightest, and although it is slower on paper than the Ford it feels faster and does it with much less fuss. Anyone who has a problem with it has to be comparing it with something at least twice the price. I’m sure a Polestar beats it in some aspects, but certainly not price nor looks in my opinion. A Tesla can’t even come close in anything but the electronic controls/infotainment setup. I’m hopeful that future OTA updates will get rid of my few remaining minor quibbles. Beautiful car.
