Aaaaand now I'm paranoid, lol! That sucks, hope you didn't wait 4 months for delivery like I did.
Just me in the car and no internal cabin damage. It felt quite sturdy when it happened. Mind you it was a big truck.
I got it within 1 week back in December. I was lucky.
Ah shit that sucks so bad. Glad you are OK though as let's be honest that's the only unreplaceable part of this equation.
What happens to it now?
If I can guide any of you on this issue. There is a list of recommended repairers on the BYD website Australia wide. Try to use them not someone with no experience.
Insurer doesn't consider it a write-off?
idk, there's at least one wrecker for sale already [https://www.pickles.com.au/damaged-salvage/item/-/details/CP--CIRCA-2024-BYD-Seal-Sedan/757910](https://www.pickles.com.au/damaged-salvage/item/-/details/CP--CIRCA-2024-BYD-Seal-Sedan/757910)
That'd make an awesome household battery!
No date on the listing. Mine was 2 weeks ago so I'm stubbornly keeping my crown.
RIP. not the first write off I have seen though.
OP should nick the front off it :P
man <900km on it, owner must have been gutted.
Selling a VW Jetta if you’re interested
There was one on Pickles back in March. And there was a post on one of the FB groups of a car that had its roof pillars caved in by a reserving truck that I think was written off. Not the first, but def a very small club to be a member of!
Get your chance in bro
Can you get rid of the damage by doing a factory reset given its electric?
Say seal you later to that car huhuhuhu
Suddenly my fantasy of an electric AU falcon doesn’t seem completely far fetched
Damn you really clubbed that seal
Is the car a write? Has your insurance company given a ruling? Bet it’s gonna be a hard time getting those parts!
I had similar damage to my 08 lancer around 2016, car was only worth 15k at the time and didn't get written off!
That damage is so little from a truck. Your lucky af to have such a built car
If it's anything like other Chinese brands. Expect to wait 3 or so months for parts.
Got to be ain’t no way that frame ain’t bent. Any pillar damage is an instant write off much like airbags.

Unfortunately I am aware of a person who drove out of the BYD dealership and had an accident, literally as they exited the dealership driveway they drove into another car. As I’m told, the dealership staff weren’t surprised as it happens more often than you would think! 🤯 It’s more important that you survived the accident than damage to your car. Insurance, if full comprehensive should just replace the car, looks like a write off imo.
Recked or wrecked?
Yeah nahz just buff it off.
That’s a common misconception, insurance will repair up to about 80% of the vehicles value. Airbags are expensive, but a drivers airbag, seatbelt+pretensioner and RCM combined are about 4-8k depending on the vehicle. Pillar skins are often cut off and replaced, and even chassis legs aren’t that expensive to replace when you aren’t paying for removal and reinstall of an entire internal combustion engine and transmission. Without knowing BYD prices (but intimately familiar with other EVs) I’d estimate this repair would be in the 25-45k range without seeing the car up close
Hope the battery isn't damaged.
On the brightside, it should get written off and if you have the new vehicle replacement in your insurance. You will get a post March build date.
I'm just tryna seal a deal to get the white interior now
I admire your attempt
She'll be right, buff right off.
Worst cars second to Tesla.
I did get a tesla replacement until this is resolved. The BYD just feels so much more a complete car. I'm definitely not going to tesla.
Hmmm I swear you’ll find that any vehicle in Victoria that has an airbag go off is considered not road worthy regardless of repair as you’ll fail the roadworthiness certificate. I had my Mazda 6 labelled as a stat write off even though there was very little damage but it set my side airbag off and my car was valued at 26k. But the fact the side airbag had been deployed meant the car would never get its road worthy. And once a car is given any form of write off you can never get it road worthy no matter how much money you spend. It’s why you can’t in Victoria get scrap cars and repair them. But hey I could be wrong but swear that’s what the mechanics told me.
I really don’t know if the Chinese cars parts thing is real or just a meme
I'm an Estimator for a smash repairer. They're a bit hit or miss. Usually miss. Some common models like the MG3 or HS. Or the LDV vans are usually stocked in Australia. The less common Haval or GWM more often than not are backorder from China 6 to 8 weeks.
Here's the rules: https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/roadworthiness/written-off-vehicles/the-written-off-vehicles-register-and-write-off-types You can repair some write-offs and reregister them, others not. To be a statutory write-off, it needs three points of structural damage (or some other kind of damage): airbag deployments indicate one point of damage (not because of the cost of the bags, but because if the airbags deploy, it means the car was subjected to structural load and therefore some of its strength will have been used up). So your car must have had two other points of damage and maybe they were like "we can fix these but nah the airbag went off so it's lights out for the car".
Had to wait 6 months for repair parts when this happened to my atto
Hey that was mine :' ) Got the car Jan 31st, was rear ended on the 10th of Feb. BYD were awesome and I had a replacement by the end of Feb, and I have since avoided driving in front of P platers in Land Cruisers
rekt
Oh nooo. Glad you are okay though. Hope the insurance cover it all for you.
He's an utter twat! I thought it was just me, but I'm glad to see he has such a following.
