SEAL - PANORAMIC ROOF

ibusnello | 2026-02-25 13:39 | 31 views

I’m finally getting my dream BYD Seal! I'm so happy. However, I live in Brazil, which means it gets extremely hot at certain times of the year. Do you usually apply any kind of window film to the panoramic roof to reduce the heat? During my test drive, I got the impression that rear-seat passengers might not be very comfortable under intense sunlight. Is this just a wrong impression, or is it a valid concern?

Ughhh theres a sunshade?

deSenna24 2026-02-25 13:51

You should get a removable sunshade you can attach to the inside of the roof. It's not electric like the Sealion 7. Mine was in a bag in the boot when I picked up my Seal.

No need. I'm in a tropical hot country. Applied a medium dark ceramic tint and never needed the sunshade. The silver coating in glass plus ceramic tint does the job.

Edit: https://youtu.be/TnEs6c04oME?si=ed9k38TQFyBUyxE0

MulberryForward7361 2026-02-25 17:28

It comes with a sunshade

ParanoidAndroidMV 2026-02-25 17:28

Tell you what. There's a lot of marketing around these panoramic roofs and how good or bad they handle direct sunlight, and they do use science to make it bearable, but the truth is that it's physically impossible for it to be equal or better than having a shade or no glass roof at all. The simplest test I've used to debate this topic with people who say "I have one and it doesn't get hot and nobody has ever complained about it" is to just put some transition glasses in the cabin and see whether or not they turn dark. That's it, period. They react to UV light. There's no fooling or thinking or opinions that matter. The fact is that there is more UV light and heat in a cabin with an exposed glass roof than in one with a shade or no glass roof at all. I have a BYD Tang and it has a built-in shade for the sunroof. I have transition glasses. If I sit in the second row with the shade on under direct sunlight, they don't turn dark. If I do the same and open the shade, they do turn just a little bit dark (because it's true that it's not just plain glass in the roof). If I step outside, they turn completely dark. And that's the end of it. So in conclusion, it's a trade off. You get a more open cabin with better views of the sky in exchange for some extra energy used by the HVAC system to keep the cabin cool and a little bit more exposure to UV lights for the passengers and the interior materials. Fun fact, in colder weather, the sunroof actually helps the HVAC system keep the cabin a little bit warmer by letting whatever little amount of heat comes through it from the sunlight.

In the latest Seal I thought now this is electric and included?

PoopsMcGroots 2026-02-26 08:55

In the Seal U, the sun roof also has an internal fabric cover that can be controlled separately to the sun roof. It certainly made a difference for our two boys in the back of the car in the two weeks we spent in Italy’s 40°C heat (the vented seats in the front were also a blessing!). As the Seal U is arguably a ‘tall’ Seal, i wondered if the Seal had a similar arrangement?

Definitely a real issue. In 35+ degrees the air con effectively doesn't work with a panoramic roof and hot dash. The sun shade that comes with the car is perforated and doesn't do a great job of blocking real sun. Cutting some silver lined insulation foam to size and putting it under the sunshade works. And the umbrella style window shade blockers are pretty good at stopping the sun from turning the dashboard into a molten heat sink.

deSenna24 2026-02-26 10:48

Maybe Chinese models? Even the 2026 EU models don't have it, only the foldable sunshade.

CasualJan 2026-02-26 11:24

Australia here. Up to MY24, the Seal's panoramic glass roof did *not* have a built in shade. Instead, there was a heat rejecting silver layer that from videos on Youtube, did a very good job at rejecting heat. As part of the MY25 update, BYD installed a powered shade for the Seal (plus a few other things; sunglass over on the driver's grab handle area, FSD to the Premium, while the Performance got DiSus-C), but the glass roof lost the heat rejecting layer. When I had the car tinted, I also had a UV film installed on the roof. It seems to help - or it could be in my head.

Amazing awnser, man. Thank you for sharing.

spardax111 2026-02-26 15:35

First of all congratulations on your new car. I live in Saudi Arabia, and you can imagine how hot the sun and weather can get here, and I didn’t face any problems with the sun roof, it’s well insulated. But I’d consider adding a layer of thermal insulation film just in case to help making the AC works better.

ibusnello 2026-02-26 16:54

Thank you for your anwser. I will use without thermal film for now. Thanks!

I have one a stick on internal sunshade in my Dolphin. We recently had 40′C days in Melbourne Australia. It works very well. I also use a reflective windscreen shade. SectionNo5568 2026-02-28 07:15

My does. 2025 Australia model. Also, OP, Heat is not an issue, even on very sunny, 35+ deg C days!

Numerous-Implement47 2026-03-01 09:24

In EU you dont get the 3 different models we do either so maybe hasn't been done for your builds?

deSenna24 2026-03-01 09:39

What do you mean with 3 different models? We do get 3 different trims, a comfort, design and excellence.

Numerous-Implement47 2026-03-04 01:39

Which country are you in? Most Euro Markets on have the Design and Excellence. Normally when 3 such as Asia and Australia the mid spec is the Premium. Long range and larger motor, HUD etc.

deSenna24 2026-03-04 07:19

Belgium. The comfort has fake leather seats and 18 inch tyres, 18 inch wheels as well. 61.4 kWh batterij, 230hp and RWD. The Design trim adds 19 inch tyres, real leather seats and 82.5kWh batterij with 300hp. Excellence is basically the performance model on other markets and only adds 530hp AWD and HUD over the Design trim. Brochure is in English here: [https://www.bydauto.be/media/0iyh1zgu/seal-2026-en.pdf](https://www.bydauto.be/media/0iyh1zgu/seal-2026-en.pdf)

Numerous-Implement47 2026-03-04 09:29

Interesting! Dont know why your mid spec doesn't have the HUD, but otherwise identical to the Premium mid spec here. Seems also aren't getting the integrated sunshade that the 25 model up have here if you mention not on latest models there.
