the real deciding factor is do you want a sedan or suv
i prefer the sealion because it has higher ground clearance
interior of seal is similiar enough

I'm torn. I really love the look of the Seal, and prefer driving a more sporty car. But I have a family, and the Sealion suits that better.
I was about to go with the Sealion because of the more open roof and back seats that can lay down flat to fit larger/longer cargo. But then discovered the Seal seats can do similar (less total space obviously, but still very useful for long cargo).
So.. No clear winner yet.

how big are you (im like 6'1 and chunky) so i def prefef the sealion in and out. with the seal it feels like i had to crawl out.
also you can buy ans attach 'bumpers' and additional spoilers to make sealion look sportier instead of premium. have a look at aliexpress on how they look once attached
but yes entirely up to your own preference

I'm a similar size to you. A number of people/reviews have mentioned the Seal being harder to get into and out of due to being lower, but I didn't notice an issue when test driving the 2024 Seal, which is about the same AFAIK.

Thanks for the detailed info.
>The 2025 Seal switched to a fixed glass roof with a motorized fabric blind
>The Sealion 7 keeps the larger panoramic setup with a proper power blind
What's the difference between a motorised fabric blind and a proper power blind?

We have a 2025 Seal Performance.
We went back to a sedan-type vehicle after having lived with an SUV for a bit. I just prefer the feel of a car with a lower centre of gravity.
The Seal's interior has had materials improved with the refresh, along with the screen upgrade as mentioned, but I think the Sealion benefits from a newer design. The 2025 Seal has a power blind for the glass roof as mentioned, but BYD changed the glass as well, and it no longer has the silver layer that apparently did an excellent job at rejecting heat. Less important in HK, I suppose.
My son is over 190cm now, and the rear space in the Seal is fantastic. I'm 185cm, and he can sit behind my driver's seat with knee room to spare.
Should also mention that the 2025 refresh also equipped the Performance (here in Australia) with adaptive dampers (DiSus-C), from the previous model's Frequency Selective Damping.

Really appreciate that; thanks.
Yeah, I had a test drive in the 2024 Seal, and felt every bump. Some say the DiSus-C dampers offer a more comfortable ride (when set appropriately) - have you found that to be the case?

Actually, saying the Hong Kong market does matter. I believe that for right-hand drive models the interior has not been updated to the extent that the Chinese left-hand drive model is. So the interior is only minimally updated, and one generation behind China's Seal. Some differences I noted compared to the Sealion 7 are:
\- The air vents are adjusted through the screen in the Seal, it is manually adjusted in the Sealion.
\- The updated Seal has a motorized sunshade, its very handy.
\- The design language of the Seal interior is one generation behind the Sealion 7. I prefer the Sealion in this regard.
\- If I am not mistake, the infotainment in the Seal is also one generation behind the Sealion.
\- The material choices are slightly better in the Sealion 7. But the Seal is still quite good.
\- You may get the new Disus-C in the Seal Performance, and only FSD in the Sealion 7, but please check with the local dealer. I find the Seal rides more smoothly.
\- Be aware, the 2025 seal I tried has only tilt and not telescoping steering wheel, 2024 has telescoping. Do check with your local dealer as it may affect ergonomics.

Might depend on market? The Seal in Australia has a HUD.

Seal has always had 15.6 screen in European markets.
HUD is also on excellence model.

Thankyou, and great ideas - will ask and share results here.
It's quite confusing given features can differ between regions. Eg many reviews state heated seats are 'standard' on the Seal and Sealion 7.. But turns out that's not even an option in HK.

You cannot compare Seal to Sealion 7 because they represent 2 totally different "way of views":
1. Seal - sporty sedan with great driving performance / cornering / handling / car feeling
2. Sealion 7 - family car, soft in suspension, spacious but drives like a bus.
So ... you have to decide what you need?
Personally ... i love the Seal, how it drives, sitting position ( getting in and out takes like 2 seconds and people write about it like it's a matter of life and death - the higher sitting position you get - the worse "feeling the car" you have), Seal is also a huge car inside, 292cm wheelbase and 188cm width.
I'm 185cm and i don't care about getting into it, no problem, i'm not 80 years old. What you can do is read about a problematic sitting position for tall people in Sealion 7:

We did test drive the 2024 Seal, but it was a "Premium" model here in Australia, and did not have the FSD that the Performance had.
For 2025, the Performance comes with DiSus-C, and the Premium inherited the FSD.
So unfortunately I don't really have a direct comparison.
All that said, I'm happy with the ride on the Seal Performance. We've had multiple different friends in the car who have all commented on how comfortable it is.
You'll really need to drive it on HK roads, I guess.

For anyone interested, the 2025 HK Seal Performance does have DiSus-C suspension. The salesguy also claimed that it has a telescoping steering wheel, but while not definitive, online commentary tends to disagree. The car arrives in 6 weeks, so I'll update then.

Big thanks for all the comments and feedback.
I decided to go with the Seal, and will update here once I've had a bit of time with it (6 weeks until delivery).
